David is slowly learning how difficult it is to accept who you are in a an opinionated world. Although, David knows that he needs to accept himself and his own humanity, it is very troublesome for him because his confidence level is very low now that Giovanni is away from him. His fiancé is gone,his best friend has moved far away, his man lover is in custody and here sits David questioning his sexuality with a ginormous fear of losing his masculinity. During the times that Giovanni and David are alone in his room, he is content and lets himself be loved by Giovanni the way he wants to be even when a part of him is telling him that its wrong.. “He pulled me against him, putting himself into my arms as though he were giving himself to me to carry, and slowly pulled me down with him to that bed. He realizes that life is much more valuable . That there is hope in your life even when you are very confused and are feeling un worthy. David was embarrassed, confused, and full of self hatred at one point, and now he is able to accept himself for who is he; a gay man. He is able to embrace his most authentic self with other forces against himself. David has learned that by accepting your self can result in and lead to a sense of freedom and happiness that cant be argued with.
Although, it is too late for Giovanni and his relationship to replenish again, David knows that Giovanni will always be in the back of his head through out the rest of his life. He has helped David realize that it is okay to be different in a world that doesn't like different. In a world that shames upon homosexuality, that it is okay to be gay and to love a man with no shame. In a world that David once thought was so fastened on heterosexuality, that it is okay to love a man named Giovanni without closed
