Title: Miami Drug Trade in the Early 80s
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience of what went on in Miami ant the drug trade.
Thesis Statement: Today I want to bring to everyone’s attention about what happened in Miami in the late 70s and early 80s, and how it is the reason Miami is what it is today.

Introduction
Attention material: South Florida, the perfect paradise for relaxation, that was until drugs took over and violence broke out, and hundreds of homicides occurred on and off the streets of Miami. Back in the late 70s and the early 80s the cocaine trade was a common problem in South Florida.

Most of the Cuban came to Miami in hopes of escaping Fidel Castro rule, Cuban immigrants were discriminated because of event.

C. Due to the close distance between Miami and Cuba, many Cubans had the opportunity to escape from the detriment of their home country
1. Most immigrants settled in a town in Miami called “Little Havana.”

(Transition: Now I will talk about how the Cuban immigrants and the drug trade are connected.)
II. In drug trafficking, Cuban American organizations were often aligned with Columbian groups; Columbians importing the drugs and Cubans distributing them. It was easy getting cocaine into the United States thanks to South Florida being the nearest mainland destination for South American drug smugglers. (Cocaine Cowboys, 2006)

(Transition: Due to the domino effect caused by the drug trafficking, Miami became a very dangerous place to live.)
III. Not only is death caused by the abuse of cocaine, but also by the brutality shown by the cartel. There were violent homicides happening every day in Miami, and the police force would jump from crime scene to crime scene. (Alverado, 2012)
