The most famous person I know is Leland Tyler Wayne, professionally known as Metro Boomin. He is an American record producer and DJ from St. Louis, Missouri currently based in Atlanta. Metro Boomin is one of the most successful producers/ DJ’s in the rap industry today. When I went to the Metro and 21 Savage concert in my hometown Dallas, the experience was unreal. I literally felt like I was in the studio with him, he puts a lot of time and dedication into producing his music. The connection between the crowd and Metro himself being on stage is like a movie. The feel that he brings to the stage is really like no other DJ I’ve ever experienced. It’s a really positive message that I get from his music. Most people know his name from Future’s
ad-lib “If young metro don’t trust you I’m gone shoot you” or “Metro Boomin want some more”. He is a very young mogul to the rap world and the generation we live in. Metro Boomin is on Twitter and he tweets “Thank God for the day” daily. I retweeted and like it every time I see it most of the time. He helps remind me to thank god for the day daily as well. For the most part Metro is one of the people I look up too and see as a very successful man.
Every hip-hop/rap generation a lot new fresh upcoming aspiring rappers who wishes to go down in hip-hop culture as one of the greatest. Some of them are merely one hit wonders; others go on to silicify their mark in the Hip-Hop culture becoming great artists. In the year 2006 the hip-hop world was introduced to a future superstar by the named of Lupe Fiasco. Lupe Fiasco has become one of hip-hop fastest rising superstar ever since releasing his first album. Although many listeners find some of his music very controversial, yet Fiasco is one of the few artists whose music teaches people about current events that the world has turned the blind eye to, and Lupe lyrical trickster, story teller.
Kanye Omari West, rapper, producer, professional celebrity, and with an ego to match, has forced himself into the limelight of the music industry. Kanye West has made a lasting impression on all of those around him, whether it be a good one or bad. With seven full length albums, a multimillion record label company, and a successful fashion business all under his belt, it’s fair to say that Kanye has done his fair share of creating. Over the last twelve years Kanye went from a young Chicago kid just trying to get his flows off, to one of the most decorated musicians of all time. With over 20 Grammy’s and 3 of his albums ending up on the Rolling stones “500 greatest albums of all time”. He has continuously created, entertained, and spoken his mind for years. Whether it be “George Bush does not care about black people” or “Taylor imma let you finish, but Beyoncé had
“There is no pit so deep, that God’s love is not deep still.” Corrie Ten Boom once quoted. Corrie Ten Boom was a follower of God who believed God’s love is like no other, and followed his commandments at the best of her abilities. Corrie Ten Boom, the most well-known lady during the Holocaust for hiding Jews, was admirable not only because of her bravery, determination, and leadership skills, but also inspired many different people in a lot of different ways.
Rap music has given me personally something to look up to. Not a role model but hope of continuing my dreams because rappers successfully made it. “For what’s money without happiness, or hard times without the people you love” is from a song called “Love Yourz” by J. Cole. He clearly understands how there is “beauty in the struggle and ugliness in the success” because he’s lived that life. Other songs such as “2Face” or “The Autograph” were instantly relatable to me because he has been through several struggles from the beginning of his childhood. Cole’s father left when he was six leaving his mother and younger brother alone. Cole became “the man of the house” but becoming a rapper is not as easy as it seems. Cole’s messages in these two songs are relative because I too, have had several issues with my mother and father creating a sense of lonesome. Hearing music like Coles helped me overcome my
Ray Douglas Bradbury was one of the most distinguished science fiction writers of the last century. Having been penniless during the Depression, Bradbury did not attend college but instead spent countless hours in the library teaching himself everything he believed he would have been taught by a professor (Norman “Obituary: Ray Bradbury…”). Before long, this noble autodidact was writing for mass market publications developing a style of fantasy science fiction writing that would serve as a model for future acolytes such as Steven King and Steven Spielberg (“Bradbury’s prose style…”). In the 1950s, a year in which anti-communist hysteria was most prevalent, Bradbury began to develop an irrational fear of censorship. (Norman “Obituary: Ray Bradbury…”). Bradbury infuses his writings with man vs. society conflicts and despotic characterization which accurately depict his ambivalence towards technology that stems from his fear of these advances eventually leading to the suppression of independent thought, thus suppression of the individual. These elements, found primarily in his first novel, Fahrenheit 451, not only impacted the sci-fi genre, but also made an impact on many readers worldwide gaining Bradbury much admiration in the literary realm.
After reviewing and leaning about all the wonderful writers and artists Professor West taught us about, I believe Gil Scott Heron, is the artist who stuck out the most to me. Preferably the songs I’m New Here and the most infamous The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, is what caught my attention. Gil Scott-Heron is known for his powerful and meaningful music. During his time, he has gone through numbers of trials and tribulations but overall, Gil Scott-Heron’s way of words has inspired many. “One of the most important progenitors of rap music, Gil Scott-
Hip-hop has become global phenomenon in many cultures worldwide, as evident through the number of countries who have embraced and adopted this culture. The art of hip-hop music is embrace; even celebrate, internationally while staying true to their beliefs. Hip-hop's inspiration differs depending on each culture. However, the one thing almost all hip-hop artists worldwide have in common is that they recognize the contribution of African American artists from New York who started the global movement. Although hip-hop is often taken for granted by Americans, in other countries such as the developing countries, where it is used to exemplify the empowerment of the subjugated, the political activists and a piece of the American dream. Hip-hop music has made a positive impact globally and has created a cultural influence among all generation.
The rappers within my core group are all from these inner cities, who know first hand about what the members of these communities are dealing with. Similarly, the very same way Rap music was used as a tool to aid young African Americans in their times of social oppression in the 1970s, is the same way it is now being used to assist the African American youths today, during their difficult times of adversity. JayZ, J. Cole, and Kendrick all possess the aura and integrity to create what is considered “conscious” hip hop that provides messages of struggle and liberation. In general, the difference better conscious and commercial rap music is simple; Conscious rap or hiphop is a lifestyle inspired by culture, togetherness, and social change. Whereas, commercial rap is perceived as music produced for the sole purpose of financial profit that primarily consists of the demeaning of women and popular references to buying expensive cars and
Many people in this world create an impact on us, from the president of our country to the mailman that passes by every day. Some are there for a lifetime, while others drift through in a glance. And occasionally, one leaves an impression so great that it is sealed on our hearts forever. For me, one of those people is Corrie Ten Boom.
Some people that has inspired Drake are Leonardo DiCaprio and rocker Jimi Hendrix. Drake has stated "I like the way Leonardo DiCaprio carries himself and how much he loves his work. That is something that I hope to accomplish. I don't think I love my work…” (Drake) Second would be Jimi Hendrix, “I love how he just performed under pressure…” (Drake) Third would be Jay-Z. “Everything about Jay, how long he has been in the game as a rapper, you know how intelligent he is, you know who he is married to…” (Drake) Fourth, I would have to say, in my life, I would have to attribute Kanye West with a lot of inspiration…And last I would have to say Andre from OutKast. The whole Outkast being a part of my childhood." ( Rap basement report on Drake by Jason). Drake Gained popularity as small screen actor on Degrassi and then he decided that he couldn't resist trying his hands at music industry. Also Mainstream music listeners are always looking for who or what is next but really Drake has always arrived and stayed. Which proves how a lot of people clearly have a huge interest in Drake's music and it never really died down. Drake really never had to overcome anything while doing this career because he had a joy for music and acting as a
Moreover, it deemed important to acknowledge their place in history as poets, artists, writers, Dj’s, etc. The Hip Hop movement began out of protest just as the Black Arts Movement and the Civil Rights Movement. In addition, with firsthand knowledge it makes since to share that information with students and then allow them the opportunity to research about it, and then think critically, and share their own knowledge with their peers and instructor about their discoveries. Meeting 21st century knowledge participants where they are is the only way that we will be able to reach them going forward. This chapter was not written to give voice to a myriad of scholars and their assessment about Hip Hop. I wanted to share my own personal experience as a scholar with this audience in hopes of you understanding that Hip Hop is an educational incubator that has helped teach and train students to become intermediate and skilled researchers and learners. The unconference approach to designing this course was the most helpful model for Hip Hop Information Literacy to come into fruition. I am still analyzing the curriculum, readjusting the course, and believe that it will be sound and succinct in a few more
Music producers have an influence on the music that today’s youth listen to that many are affected by even though the producers are unaware of it. Today there’s a lot of drug abuse, violence, and sex all on the rise even though hip hop itself is not to blame.
Los Angeles, commonly known as City of Angels, is the most populous city in California State of USA. Surrounded by extensive mountain ranges, the Pacific Ocean, and beautiful beaches, it is also home to the famous Hollywood.
I dedicated my pep talk to to people who have impacted my life in a good way. These to people have been a part on my life from the beginning. My mom’s dad, aka. Pop-Pop is the first person I wanted to dedicate my speech to. Then I thought and I remembered my brother. My brother Owen has been a part of me since I was born. To start off I’d like to talk about my Pop-Pop. My Pop-Pop was a very humble man, and a friend to pretty much every person in the entire world. He would be that guy who made friends with the waiter. He was a lovable man with a strong love for his family. He was a kind hearted man who never showed a sign of hate, unless the eagles lost. Then he would get mad at the opposing team. My pop-pop has shown me that no matter who or what brings who down, there is another ladder to climb. He always told me that I had the best hugs, so I went around giving everyone hugs! If he had a bad
Hip- hop is a standout amongst the most compelling musical sorts on the globe. There are rappers everywhere that know what amount of an impact their music can have. Some entertainers attempt to utilize that force of impact to do great (Ruiz INT).
