Whenever you eat a meal, your body is working to break down the nutrients you have eaten. It then becomes energy that your body will need. This process is called metabolism. Metabolism is an important for all living things. Without it, we would not be able to break down our food into energy. No energy means not being able to keep a balanced lifestyle, and not having a balanced lifestyle can lead to illness and diseases that can affect our lives. There are different ways your metabolism can act. You can have high metabolism which means that you burn calories fast. People with a high metabolism can eat more food without gaining weight. It is better to have high metabolism because your body will be able to produce more energy to do more activities. You can eat your favorite foods without gaining much weight. Mostly all children have a high metabolism and that is why young children and teenagers are so energetic and have a very healthy body structure. As you grow older your metabolism starts to slow down and that's the reason you see most adults tired and not fit. However there are some disadvantages in having a high metabolism. It will be very hard to gain weight with having a high metabolism that is why it is very important to eat a healthy balanced meal and exercise to prevent yourself from being underweight. Having an unhealthy high metabolism can lead to many sickly, even fatal, illnesses. "A high metabolism is often considered a blessing, but it can have many health effects aside from just making someone thin." (.....) Having a high metabolism you will need to eat larger quantities of food, which can cause blood sugar issues, mood issues, and problems with the heart. It can also cause diabetes because to maintain your weight... ... middle of paper ... ...s that can affect your metabolism. Crushing syndrome is an illness that creates a slow metabolism because your body makes too much cartisol. "This excess cartisol can promote a significant amount of weight gained. (Dr. West) Another disease is Grave's disease which occurs when the body's immune system makes antibodies that attach to thyroid cells, leading to an excess amount of thyroid hormones. The disease retains people from gaining weight. There can be good and bad things about having a slow or fast metabolism. Many people say having a fast metabolism is a good thing but it is not that much different than having a slow metabolism. You can have a slow metabolism but be a healthy person. You can have a fast metabolism and be an unhealthy person. Metabolism is break down food into energy. That means we should eat more healthy foods like vegetables and drink water.
(Prose182) There are other reasons that person could gain weight other than eating junk or overeating. There could be psychological reasons like depression or medical reasons like thyroid, diabetes, and more it can be difficult to identify by looking an overweight person if they are obesity by eating junk or if they have health issues we cannot compare all kind of obesity
Animal metabolism consists of the utilization of nutrients absorbed from the digestive tract and their catabolism as fuel for energy or their conversion into substances of the body. Metabolism is a continuous process because the molecules and even most cells of the body have brief lifetimes and are constantly replaced, while tissue as a whole maintains its characteristic structure. This constant rebuilding process without a net change in the amount of a cell constituent is known as dynamic equilibrium (Grolier1996). In the combustion of food, oxygen is used and carbon dioxide is given off. The rate of oxygen consumption indicates the energy expenditure of an organism, or its metabolic rate (Grolier1996).
There are many consequences to having an unhealthy diet such as diabetes type two, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity. More severe conditions includes heart attacks, heart diseases. If
Homeostasis is the biological process that maintains a stable internal environment despite what occurs in the external environment. Chemicals and bodily functions are maintained in a balanced state so the body may function optimally. There are various systems in the human body that require maintenance through the processes of biochemical checks and balances so they may function properly. One of these systems includes the rise and fall of blood glucose and is under the control of the homeostatic regulation process. Homeostasis is essential in blood glucose regulation as high blood glucose levels (hyperglycaemia) and low blood glucose levels (hypoglycaemia) are dangerous and can affect the human body in many ways and can also lead
Now, to the health risks. Weight gain is obviously the most common risk associated with over-eating, however weight gain can lead to obesity which can lead on to a whole host of problems, including (according to
This is due to the lack of the hormone T3 and T4 being released within their body which ultimately affects your metabolism. Many thyroid patients experience unexpected weight gain so eating a healthy diet filled with good nutrients to keep your body strong are needed. Eating an unhealthy diet will cause even more problems to your health while your whole system is running slower than normal. The number one things that most doctors and dieticians recommend to their patients is to get the thyroid under control because it is very hard to lose weight while having underactive thyroid. Sheila Dean who is the CED of the Palm Harbor Center for Health and Healing in Florida says that “The biggest factors that help with weight loss are calorie- and carbohydrate-controlled meal plans”(Dean, 1). For thyroid patients it is important to limit your calorie and carbohydrates intake because those are the two biggest components to losing weight because of the sugar and extra weight you can put on if you exceed an unhealthy limit. Some key nutrients that should be incorporated in your diet include iodine, Vitamin D, Selenium, Vitamin B12, and Goitrogens all play an important role in healthy
Metabolism is extremely altered during the transition period. The prepartum is marked by an accentuated fetus growth (Bauman and Bruce Currie, 1980) and the onset of lactation; however, the postpartum is marked by an increase in milk production over time and deficit on the intake of nutrients. This situation causes a negative balance of nutrients, when the intake of nutrients does not meet the requirements of the animal; more specifically about energy, it is well-known that transition cows undergo negative energy balance (NEB), and it is easily characterized by body weight (BW) and body condition score (BCS) loss. Bertics et al., 1992, and Hayirli et al., 2002, observed that DMI is affected during the prepartum period, showing a decrease of about 30% on the last couple weeks before parturition. After parturition, DMI increases to support mainly the demands for lactation but it is still not enough to meet the animal demands (NRC, 2001). DMI is directly related to milk yield and strategies have been developed to maximize intake in order to increase milk production, this shows its importance by the fact of an increase of about 1 kg on milk production at peak of lactation reflects about 200 kg of extra milk on the current lactation. Providing quality feed and maximizing DMI during the transition period is of high importance in minimizing NEB and its detrimental effects consequently improving milk production. Metabolic demands are increased to support lactation, and homeorhetic adaptations occur to partition nutrients to the mammary gland. A good example it is the glucose metabolism, an important metabolite used as main fuel for cells and also transformed in lactose by the mammary gland, which is affected in order of trying to meet th...
Metabolic disorder is one that interrupts the metabolism of someone's body. The body of these individuals have a hard time breaking down some foods thus this will cause a big problem when it comes to production of energy. This in turn makes a problem for the body because the totally ATP that is used for the body is about their body weight. So each ATP molecule is recycled 1000 to 1500 times during just one day. Now if the body cant breakdown certain food because of a metabolic disorder this well stop the process of bre...
Metabolism is the rate at which the body uses energy to support the basic functions essential to sustain life. This metabolism is comprised of three parts, which include physical activity (20%), Thermic Effect of Food, also called TEF (10%), and Resting Metabolism Rate or REM (70%).
Scientists claim that the consumption of fast food leads to rapid weight gain, heart attacks, diabetes, reduced immunity, irreversible changes in the liver, raising the level of cholesterol in the blood. The fat contained in fast food, mainly consists of saturated fatty acids, which are deposited on the walls of blood vessels.
Since Americans typically live hectic lifestyles, fast food is a quick and easy way to grab a meal on the go. However, eating fast food frequently provides the body with high amounts of calories, sugars, saturated and trans fats, while lacking in vitamins and minerals. Overtime, eating fast food can take a toll on ones body and increase the risk of developing illnesses and diseases. These diseases include heart disease; type 2 diabetes, stroke, and cancer, breathing problems, arthritis and even reproductive complications.
The first health probably from being overweight is Coronary Heart Disease. When a person’s body weight rises so does there risk for coronary heart diseases or CHD. CHD is a condition when a waxy substance called plaque starts to build up inside of the coronary arteries. The coronary arteries supply oxygen filled blood to the heart. Plaque will narrow or block these arteries which will reduce blood flow to the heart and muscles. This could cause a heart attack in person and being obese can also lead to heart failure. This is a very serious condition where your heart can’t pump enough blood to meet your body’s needs. The next thing is high blood pressure and this is when the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood. If this pressure on the walls of the arteries stays too high over time it will damage the body in many ways. So if a person is overweight then they have a higher change of having high blood pressure. When a person is obese it can lead to a build of plaque in your arteries and if one of these areas of plaque rupture it can cause a blood clot to form. Hopefully this clot is not by a person’s brain because if it is it can block the flow of blood to your brain and cause a stroke. You also could get type two Diabetes which is a disease when the body’s blood glucose, or blood sugar, level is way too high. Usually the body will break down food into glucose,
If we continue to eat unhealthy it can cause some huge problems in the future. When eating unhealthy you have less vitamins in your system, which can cause some severe diseases. One is the lack in vitamin C can cause a disease called Scurvy. Early Symptoms of Scurvy are weakness, feeling tired, and sore muscles. Later it causes decrease in red blood cells, gum disease, and bleeding from the skin.
Dieting; if not properly can lead to negative effects on the body both physically and mentally. Several symptoms such as lack of energy or mood swings for example are but a few of the effects. “The first
You should know how obesity is measured? Obesity is difficult to measure. The best measure we have is the BMI or Body Mass Index. Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women. The symptoms of obesity are, breathlessness or in other words unable to breathe properly. Because the people who are obese and overweight are very large, moving and walking around is very hard to them, so the fat people must breathe slowly. Another symptom of obesity is high blood pressure. High blood pressure is caused by the fats and load mass pressurize the arteries so it builds up resistance thus decreasing normal blood flow causes the heart to pump out more blood which causes high blood pressure. Diabetes is one of the of the causes that occur from obesity it can be destructive, also it may lead to death. Diabetes develops when glucose can’t enter the body cell which happens when there is not enough insulin. Many obese people have a joint problem that’s because of the extra weight on the joints. Sleep apnea or problems with sleeping that interrupts sleep by stopping breathe for brief period. Cancer is one of the symptoms or effects for the obese people. Men have higher risk than women of having colon and prostate cancers. Overweight people may also have psychosocial effects and depression. Many people think that obese people are lazy and weak this gives disadvantages to the overweigh...
