There have been lots of tragic deaths throughout this play, I have many characters in mind to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s tragic demise. Some are responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death, some are responsible for Mercutio and Tybalt’s death, or even Lady Montague’s death. But all of the characters that I have in mind are in some way responsible for both Romeo and Juliet’s death.
The first character that came to mind when I read this question was Friar Lawrence. I think that even though he meant well and didn’t want to cause any harm, he was one of the reasons for Romeo and Juliet’s death. The reason that Romeo died was because he thought that Juliet was dead, but she was actually just in a deep sleep because Friar Lawrence gave her a potion

I think Mercutio is one of the easiest characters to blame for most of the deaths in the play because he was battling Tybalt when he was killed. Mercutio was part of the reason for his own death. Mercutio’s death then lead to Tybalt’s death because Romeo killed Tybalt after Tybalt killed Mercutio. After this, Romeo was banished from Verona for murdering Tybalt. This lead to Lady Montague’s death because she was so depressed about Romeo’s banishment and Mercutio’s death. “ Alas, my liege,my wife is dead to-night; grief of my son’s exile hath stopp’d her breath”. (5.3.225-26) This is a quote from Montague in the last scene of the play when he was standing beside the dead bodies of his son, Romeo and his loving wife, Juliet.
Those are the first three characters that came to my mind as I was reading the question, “ Which character or characters are to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s tragic demise?”. In my opinion, out of Friar Lawrence, Paris, and Mercutio, I believe that Mercutio is one of the reasons for more than half of the deaths throughout this play. I believe that Friar Lawrence is the easiest to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death in the play, and Paris is also to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death even though he never knew that he was causing any
Many would agree that the death of these lovers cannot be blamed on anyone but themselves. This question cannot be answered without looking deeply into each character's involvement in the tragedy. In many ways, Mercutio can be blamed for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. If he had not persuaded Romeo to come to the Capulet?s Ball, Romeo would most likely have never fallen in love with Juliet. If Romeo hadn?t gone to the Capulets Ball, Tybalt would not have sought his life and in time forced Romeo to be banished and Mercutio and himself dead.
In the end, Romeo is responsible for five deaths, Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris, Juliet and himself. Juliet kills herself because she is under different circumstances and does what she feels is the only option left. Juliet is courageous and strong in seeking advice and not being overly sensitive. Romeo is not only weak and foolish, but is responsible for the tragic death of his own and Juliet’s. Work Cited Shakespeare, William.
Mercutio can be blamed for Romeo and Juliet’s peril because he initiated the fight with Tybalt and forced Romeo to go to the Capulet’s party. At the beginning of the play, Romeo gets invited to the Capulet’s party by a servant, unless he was a Montague. At first, Romeo did not want to go, but Mercutio eventually convinced him under the pretext that Rosaline, Romeo’s love, was going to be there. The next day, Tybalt, a Capulet, went looking for Romeo because he knew that Romeo was at the Capulet party. Instead, he stumbled upon Mercutio and Benvolio and asked them where he could find Romeo. However, Mercutio did not want to tell him and insisted on having a duel. Tybalt killed Mercutio during the fight, and Romeo kills Tybalt because he has the need to avenge his friend. Unfortunately, Prince Escalus punished Romeo by banishing him from Verona. This made Romeo and Juliet’s love
One of the people I think is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death is Mercutio. Mercutio had evoked a fight with his enemy Tybalt.During the fight, Mercutio was killed by Tybalt and Mercutio put a curse on both of their families.
It would be easy to say that Tybalt caused Mercutio’s death since it was his sword that killed him, but that is simply false. Mercutio ignored many warnings and continued to antagonize the fight that led to his death. The character ultimately responsible for Mercutio’s death is Mercutio himself. Had Mercutio unintentionally set Tybalt off, it would be easier to place blame elsewhere. However, Mercutio made many attempts to start a fight.
...shows a small influence Benvolio has over Romeo, the best example. of Mercutio's influence is after his death, where Romeo feels he has. to avenge him even though he knows Juliet would be distraught, showing. that Mercutio can reach Romeo better than Juliet could at that point. in the play, I also believe that Mercutio's death is at least a small.
Responsibility for Romeo and Juliet's Deaths There is much controversy to who is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, a number of things and people could be held responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. But who is responsible for their deaths? Even before the play begins the grudge between the Capulet and Montague families has begun. Because of this, it becomes imminent that one thing or event will start off a sequence of incidents that will end in tragedy. The on-going feud between the Montague and Capulet families could be held responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, because if their was no feud between these families then Romeo and Juliet would have been able to have a safe normal relationship in which their family would have agreed to.
The Memorable Mercutio Shakespeare created many incredible plays during his lifetime: tragedies, comedies and histories. One of Shakespeare's most famous plays is the tragedy Romeo and Juliet. Furthermore, one of his greatest creations, as well as most memorable character, lies within the pages of this tale. Although he died early on, Mercutio spent his time entertaining the audience with every act and word. Throughout Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio displays notable acts of witty humor, loyalty and devotion to Romeo, as well as hot-headed rash behavior, which stick with the reader, even after his death.
WHO IS THE BLAME? Good afternoon, my fellow audience. I am here today to persuade you on who I believe to be the character most responsible for the death of the two main characters in the play, Romeo and Juliet, a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. It is almost an ironic play because of its open and easily known ending, but yet its ending raises the controversial question, WHO IS TO BLAME FOR THE DEATH OF ROMEO AND JULIET? I believe every character in the book contributed to their deaths, even Romeo and Juliet themselves, but Friar Lawrence bears a monumental deal of the blame because he was the principle and most reliable adult that could have steered the ‘inexperienced’ couple, but his incompetency led Romeo and Juliet to a violent death.
Everyone loves Mercutio. Mercutio is a funny character in Romeo and Juliet. Then again, he could be the culprit that caused the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. No one would ever think that he could possibly do that, because, well, he’s been a victim of Tybalt. A fight breaks out between Juliet's cousin, and Romeo’s friend. This causes both of the people to die. Romeo is banished, and causes great sadness for Juliet. William Shakespeare wrote this to teach teen not to be foolish when love is on their minds. If they are foolish, it could affect the teens and their families. Yes, Even though Mercutio did die, what if his decisions and actions had caused the star-crossed lovers to be gone in death's
The first factor that is to blame is Mercutio. Mercutio is to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet because, Mercutio brought Romeo to Capulet’s party. Mercutio was invited to Capulet’s party, but the person who handed out the invitations could not read, so Mercutio had brought Romeo to the party. Once they had arrived the men went to find ladies to hang out with, but it was there that Romeo had fallen for the beauty that was Juliet, whilst she was dancing. Romeo found a way to get to Juliet, and talked to her and that is when they fell in love. This supports the thesis because, if Mercutio had not brought Romeo, Romeo would not have fallen in love, therefore Paris and Juliet would have been married, which in turn would have resulted with both of them living. This is why Mercutio is to blame for the demise of Romeo
Mercutio, though a minor character, had and enormous impact on the outcome of the play. Before the Capulet Ball, Romeo had been debating whether to go or not. Mercutio persuaded him to go by giving a big speech to him about a dream he had. This makes him partially responsible because the Ball is where Romeo first met Juliet. Mercutio also caused Romeo to be banished from Verona. Mercutio got in a fight with Tybalt and ended up dead. His death enraged Romeo enough to make him kill Tybalt in revenge. When the Prince saw what happened, he sent Romeo into exile. Romeo's banishment to Mantua made it near impossible for Romeo and Juliet to see each other. Mercutio was to blame, though only partially for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
In Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, there are three people at fault for the death of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence, but the Friar is most at fault. All three people are at fault for different reasons. Romeo is at fault because he knew the punishment if he fought Tybalt. Juliet deliberately stabbed herself and the Friar put the idea of killing themselves in their head. All three of these people are at fault, but the Friar is most at fault.
One reason he was responsible for their death was because he was the one who gave Juliet the sleeping potion which caused romeo to think she is dead. Another reason was because he was the one who got romeo and Juliet married that lead to all these tragedies and deaths in the story. However, one of the characters who is most to blame could be Friar Laurence. Friar Laurence was the wise adviser to Romeo and Juliet. He kept their secret and helped them be together instead of turning romeo in, he hid romeo. If the did not do that than romeo would at least be alive.friar Lawrence said ¨he made gentler decision, you won't die, but you will be banished from the city¨page:167.altogether if friar Lawrence had not married romeo and Juliet the death caused by their love would not have
