I am extremely thankful to my advisor for deciding to put me in this class to start with. Her decision impacted the start of my education tremendously. I have gained more confidences in my ability to learn and comprehend new material by taking this class. It has helped pin point areas that I need to work on and solutions to help me succeed. The main area that I benefited the strongest from was Module 5 ( taking notes). I have found that taking notes while reading benefits my ability to remember material remarkably along with allowing me to look back to refresh my memory. This class also taught me effective ways to take notes.
One of the best recourses that this class showed me was the SNHU writing center. One of our previous assignments we
were directed to revises it by using the writing center. Consequently, I struggled while trying to figure out how to use this recourse. It made me wonder how many other students struggled as well. I feel that I benefited from this class considering I’m already familiar with the writing center process. This is a result of taking this class and teaching me core skills for succeeding. For example, what recourses I have available to me, what they are used for, and how to properly use them. I have learned a large amount of knowledge from this class, such as a lot different tactics for reading, how to manage my time for studying, and what exactly are my academic goals. I am positive that I will use most of the strategies throughout the rest of my college experience.
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
With college right around the corner and taking a college course gave a real sense of how college classes are going to work giving me an edge over all of the other students going to college that didn’t take a dual enrollment course. Dual enrollment was honestly one of the best decisions I made in my academic career because like what I was saying this class taught me the inner workings of how most assignment are going to be turned in, what it means to be self-reliant/ on your own have no help with assignment from your parents, experiencing a course that only a handful of assignment rather than a ton of assignment ends up making up over eighty percent of your grade (getting you to work extra hard so you won’t fail) and finally that you have to actually interact with the professor/teacher if you need help or are having trouble with an
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.

The aim of this essay is to discuss on how the reflection on mentorship will be undertaken, how and why the model of reflection will be used and the importance of confidentiality. I will reflect the mentorship by ensuring that the mentee during clinical practice is put at ease throughout the learning experience of four weeks (Quinn, and Hughes 2007, p. 29). Also, I will use the principle of Kolb’s learning cycle as my model of reflection because reflecting is an essential element of learning. As I am the mentor, I will follow this cycle in a clockwise direction with Jude, so she would have to reflect on the skills learnt by reviewing the whole situation (Kolb’s learning cycle 1984 in Rose and Best 2005, p.129). This would enable Jude to integrate theory into practice. I would use a pseudonym ‘Jude’ to comply with mentee confidentiality as stated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC, 2004).
During supervision, my supervisor immediately pointed out that the issues that I was having with this client was not anything personal. She explained how detrimental it can be to compare relationships and the different dynamics that influence a relationship. Southern (2007) illuminated how impactful it can be to work through countertransference and intersubjectivity during supervision and how imperative it is that the supervisor provide meaningful support and education for their supervisee. My supervisors approach was very non-judgmental, which is what I needed at the time. It helped provide a space where I could be more open and honest about the way that I was feeling. So far the first few weeks of mentoring have gone well. I am enjoying mentoring and my mentees enjoy and look forward to seeing me. I’m starting to get into a routine of preparing myself for mentoring. For example, if I had a long night before or am having a long day, I will mentally prepare myself for mentoring so that I am present and energetic by the time I see my mentees. Also, I am learning a lot about my kids; from their hobbies, their home life and their academic needs.
Overall, this has been one of my favorite classes in that I can work at my own pace, make my own deadlines (besides the due dates), and communicate with others in ways I had never done before. I am more of a hands on, face to face, confrontation kind of student,
This previous Summer I had the privilege to work with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind as a program facilitator. Here we provided recreational and vision rehabilitation programming in an inclusive and safe environment for a diverse group of people. We worked with veterans, people with recent spinal trauma injuries, and partially sighted youth, families and seniors. Focusing merely on the partially sighted population I worked closely with, there are a number of issues they face on a daily basis, which they understand is influenced by larger, macro structural and societal forces at play. Some of these issues include, accessibility, communication, participating in athletic and recreational activities and employment opportunities.
Taking this class this semester has really changed the way that I have viewed myself when it has come to work and the different companies that I have worked before. I have taken a psychology class before but I have never taken one that relates to management and organizations. This class has really helped me answer different questions such as why I was unhappy at some jobs, enjoyed some managers over others, and what motivated me to work hard at jobs. It’s good to learn that there are different terms and definitions for different feeling and things I experienced at jobs to know that their other people experiencing these things also. I will be going into a management position after I graduate, and this class helped me to learn many different ways to go about managing and things to avoid to keep a positive working environment.
After taking time to reflect on everything have learned throughout this class and the rest of my courses, it seems as though I have learned a lot and have developed many skills that will allow me to progress as a teacher. This class allowed me to gain a better understanding of education laws, as well as what brought these laws about. Additionally, this class also shined light on many aspects of working with special needs students that I was not aware of before.
The first part of my peer mentor plan focused on a presentation regarding how to study for midterms. The idea was that this presentation would be a simple discussion with the use of a visual aid. The presentation was intended to provide first-year students with the tools needed to improve academic success. Me and my instructor Nick decided not to take time out of class for this particular project. The project didn't come together quite the way I had hoped, and it turned out to be longer than I had anticipated.
This course has helped me in many ways, especially time management, health, and money. Instead of having a very relaxing week and then panicking at the end of the week when everything is due, this course has helped me to plan out my studies. Planning them out helps me produce higher quality work and assists me with my stress problem. One thing that has helped a lot is getting short easy assignments or parts of assignments done in short periods of extra time I have. For example, instead of turning on that TV, wait ten minutes and knock out an assignment. Another asset for myself has been setting dates to have assignments done. Although these assignments may not be due on that day, getting them done and out of the way, makes more time for other
Before this class began I was just a bit skeptical about taking it. I was worried that I would not be able to grasp all the information that was being thrown my way but to my surprise, learning information that I am actually interested in makes it so much easier. We covered so many topics but my favorite ones or the ones that caught my interest the most were the interpretation of dreams by Freud in chapter 4, the study of personality in chapter 13, and the many disorders we discussed in chapter 14.
