Memes of Gothic Literature Gothic literature was created to make changes in the way writers approach the craft of writing. The changes in writing first started during the puritan era. The writing was written to be more dark, more intense, and have more stronger impact on the reader. The writers who first started gothic literature during the puritan era, were rebelling against the common form of writing they had during that time. They wanted to write about other things other than just always writing about their religion and about god. One writer, Samuel Taylor Coleridge did this; he was a gothic writer how had intense had intense emotional connections with nature with nature. Byronic heros are heros that are not normally seen as a hero, troubled person. Likes to hide from society, and is socially akward. This hero structure is called a byronic hero after a famous poet named Lord Byron. Lord Byron wrote many different poems that had byronic heroes in them. Lord Byron though was not the only writer to have byronic heroes in their writing . The song “Behind Blue Eyes” has a byronic character in it. The song is talking about how this person is sad and broken from someone else. The song goes on to talk about and then going how his love is vengeance and that his love only causes destruction. He is a byronic hero because he has many characteristics of a byronic hero. For instance he is making himself an outcast showing he is self-destructive, has a troubled past, is guilt ridden, emotionally conflicted, and is arrogant and yet full of shame (Bruett). He his a byronic hero because of these characteristics and because of how the past is portrayed and how he exiles himself from others by telling them his love is destructive. Another story that has a byronic hero in it is Star Wars. The protagonist anakin skywalker has a troubled past too, due to his mother dying in childbirth and his dad turning to the dark side.
