Mega Farms Effects On Water
Water pollution has been an increasing problem over the last few years. Pollution itself is when a substance or energy is introduced into the soil, air, or water in a concentrate. Pollution comes in many forms; agricultural, urban runoff, industrial, sedimentary, animal wastes, and leeching from landfills/septic systems just to name a few. These pollutants are very detrimental to the environment. Whether they are alone or combined with another form of pollution they are very harmful. Over the last hundred years the problems with pollution have been increasing with time. This is due to both the increase in human population, and the increases in technology we have made as a society. If we plan on having our resources here for many years to come we are going to have to make some drastic changes in the way we treat the earth, and these changes will have to start with our pollutants. (Jones,1993,pp.4-15)
Agricultural pollution is a very big contributor to water pollution. Problems we see with agriculture are applications of fertilizers, insecticides, and pesticides. We have made vast improvements in the types of chemicals we are using, as to how environmentally friendly they are. In 1985 the amount of fertilizer added to America’s fields was 11.5 million tons. Not only do these chemicals leech in to the soil, but they are also swept off the soils by rain and wind. When these fertilizers reach the water there is a sudden boom in plant growth. When the plants die, bacteria that need oxygen to live eat their bodies. This starts to deplete the amount of oxygen in the water for other fish and animals to live and breath, and they end up dying. Besides the chemical contamination on the farm there are major problems with animal wastes. (Jones,1993,pp.39-60)
Over the last 30 or so years there has been an increased demand for food. Foods like pork, chicken, turkey, and beef. With the demand for meats, there is also an increased demand for grains to feed these animals. So more land is needed to grow the feed, less space is available for the feedlots. More and more of these feedlots have been popping up over the landscape. And the amounts of animals crammed into the small spaces are also increasing. There can be as few as 50 to as many as 7 million in a single confinement.
The educational requirements need to be a cosmetologist includes successful completion of a licensed from an accredited university or college by achieving a satisfactory score on PSI written and practical exam test. But along with that if you are in a public high school and you want to take the opportunity of the dual credit high school cosmetology course is more recommended. Beyond that, the educational requirement for the Odessa
It's also important to note how important group settings can be on the outside. Many people in recovery make significant process by going to 12-Step meetings. Again, these meetings offer much more than a forum for having coffee and discussing problems. These meetings offer people a chance to make new friends and develop lasting relationships. That's a very important attribute because most people in recovery have to say goodbye to the old friends they had while living life with an
Improper nutrition and misbalance in our body may be the causes for tooth decay. Always pay attention to your nutrition when your teeth are considered, instead of choosing fluoride or dentistry. Our health can also be in danger when fluoride is used, even though the main reason for using fluoride is to make the teeth stronger. According to a recent study, mental disabilities are often made more difficult with the usage of fluoride. Among fluoride, mercury and arsenic are also dangerous in cases of autism
Poor dental hygiene is the main cause of cavities. Cavities depending on how bad the pulp decay inside the tooth ...
As swans drift with the current on a secluded lake in upper Canada they think not of the water they are in but of dreams of the past and wants for the future. On the other hand, seals off the coast of Northern California fear for their lives every day of humans exploiting their natural habitat. Many things can endanger water born animals, and most all of these come directly from humans. The pollutants of water come from many sources both close and far away from the water body itself. Wastes of humans are the major cause of pollution in the water, such materials include sewage, chemicals among other notable items. First, the composition water: water is odorless, tasteless and a transparent liquid. Though in large quantities water appears to have a bluish tint, it maintains the transparent tendency when observed in smaller quantities. Water covers approximately seventy percent of the Earth's surface in the solid and liquid form. Pollutants can be carried over a great distance by combining with evaporating moisture, forming clouds and then the wind taking the clouds to the larger body of water. This process is called acid rain and it is a major source of water pollution. Acid rain has been a problem since the Industrial Revolution, and has kept growing ever since. With acid rain moving over to a fresh water body, the plants and animals could experience pollution that they never had to deal with before and they could possibly die for the sudden change without them having time to adapt, if this is possible.
In a cosmetology school, students learn lots of skills and techniques that are needed to pass their exam. Cosmetology exams include things such as hair, nails, makeup, and safety and sanitation. Becoming a cosmetologist doesn’t take much at all, every state requires cosmetologists to be licensed. To get a cosmetology license you need to have at least a high school diploma, and you would have to graduate from a state-licensed cosmetology school. To get into a cosmetology school, you would only have to be 16 years old. Cosmetology school is nothing like normal school. In cosmetology school there aren’t really any books or writing and you don’t learn anything but how to do hair, makeup, and how to do things with the skin, you just practice the basic beauty skills which is something that a lot of people like to do. Depending on what state you’re in, you would only have to attend cosmetology school for about a year, that’s if you take full time classes, if you take part time classes you have to go for about a year, to a hear in a
Pollution comes in many forms. In the ocean we dump a variety of substances, including human wastes, chemicals from fertilizers, oil, and trash such as plastic which all contribute to the growing issue of our ocean pollution. In addition to, our usable waters are finite. More than 97.5 percent of the water on this planet is undrinkable salt water; the remaining 2.5 percent has two-thirds of the usable fresh water locked up in glaciers, snow, and permafrost. Of the one-third of freshwater that is available for human use, 20 percent is used for industrial use. (“Water Pollution”) “In effect, water pollution reduces the volume of water available for use by human and other populations.” (Robin Clarke, Jannet King) Knowing that there are approximately 7.2 billion people and growing on this planet with only 0.83 percent of available for our use wouldn’t you want to do everything possible to help put an end to water pollution? Mental health awareness has always been very important to me. It is something that I hold close to my heart because I have lived (and will continue to live) through it. Many individuals suffering with mental illness, lose hope. This results in suicide attempts and completions, as the limited resources and the stigma associated with mental illness makes it feel nearly impossible for sufferers and their families to talk to others about their struggles and to access help and services. I believe that mental health is a topic that our society must effectively address, as mental illness is very common, affecting one in five individuals, and because suicide is one of the most common leading deaths among young
This lack of autonomy is what lead Edna to have an identity crisis, she was given labels of what she ought to be, which were mother and wife. However, this didn’t fulfill her and as time went by she grew dissatisfied with such roles. “Even as a child she had lived her own small life all within herself. At a very early period she had apprehended instinctively the dual life—that outward existence which conforms, the inward life which questions.” (Chopin 18) She lives a double life with an inner and outer self, she finds her outer counterpart is willing to comply with societal standards but her inner part wants to act completely different and rejects what has been assigned to her. As a result, this sparked the need to seek for her independence, “"I would give up the unessential; I would give my money, I would give my life for my children; but I wouldn't give myself. I can't make it more clear; it's only something which I am beginning to comprehend, which is revealing itself to me." (Chopin 52). This is a turning point in the story since in essence Edna is saying that even though being a mother is a priority to her, staying true to herself goes above everything else and this is what marks the start of the journey of her awakening. Unfortunately, she also
Today in this country nearly one in every four Americans suffers with some sort of mental illness. The thought of that can be shocking to some, but others may brush it off as just another statistic left aside for the next to worry over. But, few really take into consideration that a mental illness can become the source of reasoning behind so many horrible cases ranging from depression to murder to the worst things one can think of. A mental illness isn’t just a simple illness, there are varieties of illnesses that can affect a person, such as; anxiety disorders, depression, schizophrenia, OCD also known as obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, eating disorders, and the terrifying list continues with so much more than just these examples. Mental illnesses can become developed before birth, during adolescence, early adulthood and even be hereditarily developed. Away from the fact that anyone at any age can develop a mental disorder, the actions these disorders can drive one to do are horrendous. Besides the outrageously mind boggling amount of undiagnosed people who live in the U.S. alone, most doctors do not even know how to identify many mental illnesses specifically for what they are. The kind of effects or reactions one can experience because of the specific illness can be agonizingly, horrific especially if ones doctor cannot specify the problem correctly. More research must be done to increase mental illness awareness and diagnose those who are struggling to live a normal life. Ways in which we can increase the awareness to help, and learn can actually be quite simple.
Fluoride treatment can also help rebuild damaged parts of your teeth and strengthen the enamel.
Mental disorders are rapidly becoming more common with each new generation born in the world. Currently, nearly one in two people suffer from some form of depression, anxiety, or other mental health problem at some point in their lives (Editor). With so many people suffering from their mental illnesses, steps have been taken in order to get help needed for these people but progress has been slow. In the medical world, hospitals are treating those with physical problems with more care than those with mental problems. Prescription drugs can only do so much helping the mentally ill go through their daily lives and more should be done to help those who need more than medicine to cope with their illness. Mental health should be considered just as important as physical health because of how advanced physical healing is, how the public reacts to those with mental illness, and due to the consequences that could happen if the illness is not correctly helped.
Water Pollution is a current issue that has serious consequences; it progresses everyday in our lakes, oceans, rivers and other bodies of water.
70% of this demand derives from agriculture which shows the influence of water on food supply globally as well as not just drinking water (Sawin “Water Scarcity could overwhelm the Next Generation”). But increasing water use is not just a matter of the greater number of people needing it to drink and eat; it also comes from pollution and misuse of water supplies, by either dumping or runoff of bacteria or chemicals into water. This also “causes other pollutions as well such as soil and air pollution, accelerating wetland damage and human-caused global warming” (Smith and Thomassey 25). According to a UN report, recent estimates suggest that climate change will account for about 20 percent of the increase in global water scarcity in coming decades. One of the main causes of water scarcity is water mismanagement worldwide.
Efforts to improve the standard of living for humans--through the control of nature and the development of new products--have also resulted in the pollution, or contamination, of the environment. Much of the world's air, water, and land is now partially poisoned by chemical wastes. Some places have become uninhabitable. This pollution exposes people all around the globe to new risks from disease. Many species of plants and animals have become endangered or are now extinct. As a result of these developments, governments have passed laws to limit or reverse the threat of environmental pollution.
