Scientific Research Regarding Effects of Meditation on the Mind and Personality
According to research, there are several good things that may take place because of meditation. This is based on an experiment wherein one group meditated and the other group did not. Here are just some of the results.
1. The deep physiological rest is apparent based on the drop in the metabolic rate of individuals who meditate.
2. The number of breaths that would have to be taken per minute has considerably dropped.
3. Meditation can be very helpful in helping the body rest. It can also help rejuvenate the heart.
4. There is a significant drop in the blood lactate level experienced by those who are meditating.
5. Deep calming effect due to meditation can make the skin less conducive.
6. Restful alertness is more present during the meditative state. This means that a person is peaceful yet aware of his surroundings.
7. Meditation can make it better for people to communicate with each other properly especially to the ones that they love.
8. Those with high blood pressure have shown progress by having lower blood pressure after meditation.

However, meditation is not as common within Buddhism as most believe. There is a large assumption “that Buddhism and meditation go hand in hand”, but the majority of Buddhists have focused on “cultivating moral behavior, preserving the Buddha’s teachings (dharma), and acquiring good karma”(Braun 2014, p.1).
