I think medical terminology is very important in my field of study because when speaking with others in the career they will need to understand what I am saying so that we can have proper communication. Medical terminology is kind of like our on personal language in this career field. When speaking to someone else in the same profession we can communicate without others knowing exactly what is being said. When speaking with doctors they are going to use certain terminology that we have to understand to communicate properly about a patient’s health or diagnosis. This knowledge is very relevant because if you dont know whats being said about a patient you won't know how to properly treat the patient. If you don't understand the medical terms
Using standardized terminologies in nursing practice has a wide array of advantages to the patients, the organization involved, the nursing profession and even the country using the standards. These terminologies aid the healthcare organization (both the care team and administrators) in deciding which nursing terminology or a combination of several that suits their needs. With these terminologies:
insurance billing and coding. It is important that this personnel know how to correctly use abbreviations. For doctors and nurses they can use them and save time when it comes to additional paper work and long medical history charts. I think standard abbreviations are fine to use. Its becomes different for the similar abbreviations those need to be written out completely. For coders it is important that they have the right abbreviation and they don’t make a mistake. They need to be familiar with all abbreviations and medical terminology. Having the wrong abbreviations could cause miscommunication and patient harm. They should mostly be used in an emergency situation, or in situations when your coworkers know what you mean and understand what your writing, and good communication is present.
Medicalization can either be a positive or a negative thing in society often some suffering from an illness turn to the label of medicalization to be able to be accepted from society. Medicalization can be positive for a society if it’s done for all the right reasons rather than just personal interest for those behind it.
There are many options for substance addiction treatment and utilizing medication as a means of eliminating substance use is one that has been called a double edge sword. There are two schools of thought with medically assisted treatment. First, let 's define medication assisted treatment (MAT): “it is the use of pharmacological medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a “whole patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. Research indicates that a combination of medication and behavioral therapies can successfully treat substance use disorders, and for some people struggling with addiction, MAT can help sustain recovery” (Watkins, 2016). One side of this treatment option is that it provides that extra little nudge to start recovery with less or more withdrawal symptoms. For example, disulfiram is an alcohol aversion agent, that when taken with alcohol the person becomes very ill (Watkins, 2016). There are also other medications that help with reducing symptoms of withdrawal, such as methadone.
Polydactyly is the most commonly observed congenital digital anomaly of the hands and feet appearing in 1 in every 500 live births. The condition is characterized by an abnormal amount of digits per hand in which the extra digits may develop bilaterally, or it may occur on both or just one hand, foot, or some other combination. Usually the extra digits that develop are either small pieces of soft tissue or fully formed in appearance. It is noted that in around 80% to 90% of cases involve the peripheral digits, although it is possible that all digits may be affected. Depending on the location of the extra digit, polydactyly can be further classified into three types: pre-, post-, and central axial forms. Polydactyly can occur as an isolated disorder (non-syndromic) or alongside other symptoms or disease. Isolated polydactyly is typically caused by the inheritance of an autosomal dominant gene mutation, meaning the cause is not due to a multifactorial trait. However, most cases of polydactylism are linked to specific syndromes that cause congenital anomalies through a variety of gene mutations.
Many people don’t know the appropriate analytical skills to be able to recognize key details in patient's records and codes. Medical coders must be very detail oriented and accurate when it comes to this profession. “Coders translate medical terminology into a standard format allowing
Medicine has always played a major role in the world. Without out it there would be a lot of sick individuals and no one would be here to cure them. Medicine has come a long way thanks to technology. Technology has allowed medicine to grow a lot and still aids medicine to go further.
Communication involves the exchange of information between two or more people. Whether verbal or nonverbal, communication serves as the bridge that allows people to share ideas and thoughts. Clinical professionals converse with patients, relatives, and other professionals daily. Conversely, despite having multiple encounters with patients every day, physicians fail to enact the necessary communication and interpersonal skills to effectively listen, instill confidence, and promote following medical advice in patients.
The human body is the most complex organism in the world. A vast majority of society never gives it real thought, but our body is a well oiled machine composed of several systems with separate functions yet they all work together. No man can recreate an exact working replica of a human; even with all of our technology we still do not fully understand it. Each day anatomists and physiologists are getting closer, by making medical breakthroughs. Therefore, since the study of the human body constantly is evolving, so is the study of medicine. These changes pertain to every position held in the medical field, including nurses. As doctors’ duty is to become well informed of the constant changes, it is just as important for nursing staff to evolve as well. Most people do not realize the very valuable role a nurse plays in the process of treating a patient. Actually, some would say that nurses are more valuable than the doctors’. It is the nurse that gives the direct patient care by working with patients to monitor, evaluate, and implement their best judgment regarding the patients care. This is a very large responsibility for any person, let alone someone who has not attended medical school. Granted, nurses generally operate within certain perimeters set by the doctors’ orders, but there are times where nurses have to implement their own skills. A good nurse must be a good communicator, must be well educated and willing to evolve with the industry, and most importantly must be able to implement last minute critical thinking skills.
As stated in the previous quote, confidentiality is an important concept in medicine and many other different professions. In technical terms, confidentiality is the right of an individual to have personal, medical information kept private (p. 62). It is especially important in the health care profession because as a health care professional, individuals are responsible with the personal information of their clients and are obligated to keep that information from those who it does not concern.
In summary, the common fictive relationships that are created, particularly in the biomedical community, served to different purposes. Maybe the most important one would include the correct learning of the medical profession that ensures the correct treatment of patients in the future. However, it also helps with new discoveries and researches and even as emotional support to the practitioners themselves, because it let them share their passion with individuals that feel it as well, and with whom they can have an intellectual exchange. Therefore, it would permit them obtain new ideas and knowledge that would help them become better and wiser, ending with the improvement of the patients care.
Word choice is very important for good, effective communication. When someone does not pick their words wisely while talking to the patients, it can make the patients feel like they should not be the person taking care of them because they are not professional. It also makes the patients feel like they do not know what they are doing. As a Medical Assistant, it is my responsibility to ensure my communication is clear and written properly. If my notes are not organized and written clearly, not only will the patient think in unprofessional, the doctor's will too. Also, if I use abbreviations, I need to make sure that they are correct. Some abbreviations look very similar to others so things can get confused very easily.

Surgeons have a lot on their plate when it comes to their work. Surgeons are doctors who are specialized in certain surgeries and operations. While being a surgeon there are many subspecialties that one surgeon could pursue (Field). Surgeons will diagnose and treat patients depending on their condition. They will perform a variety of surgeries on the every single part of the human body (“Surgeon”). It’s important for a surgeon to know everything about a patient’s medical history so they can perform their job to the best of their ability and also decide whether or not the patient needs surgery. They also ...
