I would like to take this course because I wish to pursue a career in the medical field later in life and medicine is the root of any medical career. I’ve always been fascinated with how a little solid powder can do so much for the human body sometimes we don’t realize how much medicine really works but we couldn’t imagine a life without it like before the 1700s but even then there was some form of medicine with Herbs, Rituals, etc which worked for them sometimes but just not as affective as the medicine we have today. My interest with the medical field is more personal more then anything when I was 10 months old I was sent to the hospital for Hematuria my parents later found out it was due to my kidneys failing. At 11 years old I was told that my left kidney was nearly not …show more content…
The respiratory system has always been my favorite system to learn about and in my option is the most important to maintain simply because we cant live without air and oxygen supports about every other system that surrounds it ,I bet most people didn’t know that The right lung is slightly larger than the left or We lose half a liter of water a day through breathing these are just 2 of many more interesting facts about the respiratory system. Dialysis Technician and Urology makes sense with me being around these professions basically my whole life since I was a baby every time I would see my doctor I asked a ton of question wanting to know how everything worked so I think these would come more natural with me having previous knowledge attained from my own situation. I feel that I am very motivated for this course because grades and school work is a main priority for myself. My parents never went to college which has placed a burden on my family and I and because of that I am more than
My lifetime goal is helping others and I plan to use my career to fulfill it. The classes I’m taking right now and the ones I’m planning to take senior year are classes I believe will influence my decision in my college major/career as well as counting toward my GPA. This will help me get into schools who have medical programs that I’m considering. Also, taking AP classes can help me save money since I can earn college credit. I’m taking all AP classes, and the electives I’m taking have been classes that have helped me consider being in the medical field. I’ve found that over the years, science and math are what I’m doing better in versus history and english. I believe by being in the medical field, I can help others in the best way I can.
Ever since I was younger, I wanted to get into the medical field. Both my grandmothers used to work in the hospital and I would always wanted to tag along. Following them to work influenced my decision to work in a hospital. Every time I tag along, I would see many interesting things that would catch my attention and make me curious. There was a lot of materials such as the stethoscope, weighing machine, and etcetera that I would pretend to be a doctor or nurse examining imaginary people. It was absolutely perfect because I always wanted to help people. So this fall of 2014, I will be starting my education on becoming a nurse anesthetist.
I want to learn more about the medical field. I am very fascinated in the science aspects. You need to be attentive; sensitive to people’s needs and have a drive to address their needs in an utmost concerned manner. It is one of those jobs that require long working hours and often one must overlook one’s needs and cater to patients. I am a sensitive and very hard-working individual.
Caring for people is my passion. My senior year of high school is when I witnessed my grandmother live on a ventilator for about a week. It awakened a new level of passion in me to care for people with cardiopulmonary problems. The Respiratory Therapy Care profession has intrigued me with how they improve the quality of life in their patients. I will enjoy working closely with patients in addition to working high tech equipment. By entering into this program and graduating out of this program I know that this will satisfy my personal goals for the next five years in many ways. The continues challenges of trying to figure out what’s wrong the heart that day or what’s wrong with the lung the next day will always keep me on my toes. It will always
One of the summer challenge seminars I hope to partake in is the Chemistry of Medicine. After completing chemistry in high school, I was left with a void to fill that included the use and application of these fundamental laws in the world of medicine. I have always had a great appreciation for medicine and its vital role in today’s evolving society, and I am considering the prestigious medical program at Boston University. This summer challenge program will introduce me to the study of medicine on campus and the environment present at the University

Every night, as I sat on the table with my younger brothers assisting them with their homework, I hear a familiar sound at the door. As she walks her heels click, and I can hear her searching her bag for her keys, the next thing I know the keys are in the lock and as it turns me and my younger brothers’ jump. We run to the door and indeed we scream in unison “Mommy’s home”, one by one she gives us a hug and a kiss. My mother asks us how our day was, and if we finished our homework, she then looks to me and said “did you cook and assist your younger ones with their homework”; I replied “yes mom”. As I warm the food, I take my mother’s purse, jacket, and shoes put them away and prepare the table for her to eat dinner. As I glance at the clock, with bright red lights glaring at me I notice the time, it is 7:30 p.m. As a young child I never questioned my mom, about her daily program but it was understood to me that my mother worked very hard to raise three children on her own. My mother migrated from Nigeria at the age of 18, with a scholarship to study at the New York City College of Technology; she received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree. She created a path way of success for her younger siblings; the first to go to college, the first to come to America with a scholarship offer. My mother works at the Nigerian Embassy, she also has a certificate in Cisco Systems, she has her license in nursing and is a licensed realtor, there were no bearings on where my mother education stopped, soon after her siblings from Nigeria followed in pursuit of furthering their education and continuing the path of success. Her dedication and pride enlightened me throughout high school. Every morning, I woke up at 5am, I then woke my younger brothe...
All my life I’ve wanted to be a doctor. I’d walk around my house with my plastic stethoscope and doctor bag ‘taking care’ of my family. I’ve just always been drawn to it. I think that it also may have something to do with heredity. Both my mother and my grandmother have worked in the hospital; my mom in the mom and baby unit, and my grandmother as a floor nurse. However, that’s just a theory of mine. At the moment, I plan to go to college for four years or more to become a registered nurse. And hopefully, get my masters degree to become a midwife. As a registered nurse you have a very wide range of things you can do in, and also out of the hospital.
Currently, I have completed 9 12-hour shifts in the medical/surgical ICU, during this time I have made excellent progress in attaining my established goals. I completed sub-goal 1 and have completed approximately 75% of sub-goal 2. I was successful as my goals this semester were realistic and achievable within the short time frame (10 weeks). In total I created 4 unique and specific activities to assist in achieving my overarching learning goal.
From the beginning, the medical field has always fascinated my intellectual curiosity. Because medicine is a career where I wish to pursue, the steps that I have taken to further explore the career is by talking and asking doctors around my local community for advice in the medical field. I have visited my local hospital (Oaklawn Hospital) to see how hospitals work and have been shown around by the nurses and doctors. Many times, I have volunteered at Oaklawn for all sorts of open jobs needed. These jobs included taking out the trash, greeting patients, delivering food, etc. A more recent event that I participated in was my experience at The National Academy of Future Medical Scientists last summer in Boston, MA. This event was where the students
Although the likelihood is that medical students will just be dissecting me, I like to think that I'm contributing to the education of the future of medicine. And as a pre-medical student, my goal in life is to contribute to the advancement of medicine in as many ways as possible, among saving lives of course. I have discussed this with my mother. In addition, I have also discussed with her the fact that I am a registered organ donor, and if I ever get in a tragic accident and can't be saved, if my organs are viable, I wish to donate as much as possible so I can use my death to save the lives of others. I didn't come into this course with any expectations, but with interest. I'm not exactly sure what I want to learn, but I know I am ready to
Through school or even life in general, we never truly understand the purpose of what we do. Yes, we take a class to better educate ourselves but then we start to wonder if we will ever use what we learned. Thus far, this course has been different, we apply everything we have learned into our daily lives. A practicum is a real-life experience obtained through working in a health care facility while still being a student. (Makely, 2017). A practicum can range from volunteer work to internship. Through a practicum, the student can learn many different aspects of not only the work environment they want to get involved in but also what work may entail, how stressful it may be, and to see if that job is the best fit for that student. The student
My desire to pursue a graduate degree in public health is personally driven, and I believe UC Irvine will serve as a vital foundation for obtaining the necessary knowledge and training in my career. With my persistence in the pursuit of knowledge I am confident that I will be able to take full advantage of what the program has to offer so that I too can make meaningful contributions in public health. In order to hone my skills with regards to health, I am currently taking a human anatomy and physiology course through Loyola Marymount University Extension, and I find myself eager to return to full time studies.
Careers in Medical Science The career I chose is in the Biological and Medical Sciences area. It was the closest thing that I could find to the actual, specific career that I intend to pursue. I want to be an epidemiologist, which is a biological and medical science, so the information that I found will apply. Epidemiology is the study of the spread of diseases, which includes vaccinations.
