Definition: According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, mediation is the intervention between confliction parties to promote reconciliation, settlement or compromise. Mediation is a good way to solve minor issues of environmental concerns that could come up in a community or small group due to the difference in opinions or expectations of Individuals in that group. In the world today, many individuals have different views on what is an acceptable standard for a healthy and clean environment. In a community, conflicts are bound to arise when the residents of that community have opposing opinions and expectation of wellbeing of their surroundings. For instance, an individual who is not concerned with germs and microorganisms may agree that a table is clean if there is no visible dirt on it. Whereas, a person who is concerned with germs does not consider a table clean unless it is spotless and wiped with a quality disinfectant. …show more content…
Growing up in a developing country like Nigeria, I lived in a community where people of different social classes could live together in the same region or community. As a result, the residents of my community had varying perspectives on the priority of having a clean and healthy environment. I observed that the more educated people were more conserved for the wellbeing of the environment and where willing to pay the price for having a sanitary community. Because of the difference in opinions and environmental health expectations, many issues came up in my community. To address these issues, the community held a monthly meeting to discuss how to maintain a reasonably clean environment and give updates on the standard of our environmental
The environment and the health of the surrounding population go hand in hand. The Environmental Protection Agency takes on this ever so important mission of protecting them both. The mission statement of the EPA states, “The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Small Business Programs is to support the protection of human health and the environment by advocating and advancing the business, regulatory, and environmental compliance concerns of small and socio-economically disadvantaged businesses, and minority academic institutions (US Enviromental Protection Agency, 2010).” The impact of its mission can be defined clearly as it examines the impact of contamination in the air, the water, and the land on human health.
The episode of Designing Healthy Communities that I watched discussed the impact of the environment on communities and our health. It also discussed how our generation needs to preserve or better our environment for future generations, so that our future generations can enjoy what we have or better than what our generation had. Such as, the Onondaga Lake and the mercury that will be in there for many years to come. With all the mercury in the lake it is not healthy to drink the water or eat the fish but, with high hopes it will be some day. In addition, this episode Richard Jackson continues to discuss and illustrate that where someone lives in a community can affect their health. Especially in association
A good mediator steers the couple away from arguments and name-calling and makes the process as businesslike as possible. Mediation eliminates much of the rancor found in divorce court. The mediation process focuses on the real-life issues occurring at the end of a marriage instead of rehashing past ill will. A mediator doesn’t advise either partner, but helps them arrive at the best decisions possible through discussion and compromise.
. . . any factor, quality, property, feature, aspect, that has a source, origins, ground, basis, and consequences, effects, derivatives, a field of influence, radiation, expansion, an expression, manifestation, revelation, outcome may be said to be immediate in the source, origin, ground, basis, and mediated in its consequences, effects, derivatives, outcome, in its field of influence, radiation, expansion, in its expression, manifestation, revelation (1984, p. 2; p. 12). Such is the general or simple notion of mediation.
This means freedom from pollution, and dumping sites, access to clean water, and air quality, and freedom from environmental hazards, such as chemical toxins, industrial pollution, solid waste disposal and noise. Studies have shown that the social distribution of pollution suggest that poor households with low income, minorities, and poor African Americans in the United States are most affected by the environmental quality issues, (1) and “concerns about the environmental inequality led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency for Environmental Justice in 1992.” (1) The EPA is responsible for distributing and regulating the risks. (2) Since environmental Justice concerns where people work, live and play, it is also important for these people to be included in the decision making process.

My family’s history has made me view that there is a vast need for conflict resolution to restore life after conflicts. Conflict resolution is important before a conflict, in the middle of a conflict and at the end. At all of these stages you are able to help or reduce a conflict situation by using conflict resolution techniques such as mediation. It is also important after a conflict to use conflict resolution; by using conflict resolution you may be able to cope or accept what happened. This conflict also helped widen my view of conflict; conflict can be everywhere locally, nationwide and globally. Conflict also may not be stopped suddenly, as many conflicts have many steps you must partake in before you can move on. This value also helped myself understand the conflict is not always just between two conflicting parties; others can be involved as well even if they are not fighting.
Thus, various observers have made the argument that lack of clean air and water in these neighborhoods are occurring because of the socioeconomic class of the individual or because
Mediation is a way to solve a dispute without having to resort to court procedure which sometimes could turned out to be rigid, formal and time consuming especially when it needed a lot of paperwork and the possibility of adjournment which could consume years. Besides that, unlike in court, mediator as a third impartial party did not acted as a judge who decides on the resolution however, the mediator will help the parties to explore the needs and issue which before preventing them from achieving a mutual resolution and settlement. The mediation process gave the authority towards the parties to agree with each other and open up the chance for the parties to meet with a resolution at the end of the mediation session.
...ffects on human health. These have high negative effects on low income areas, as a result of pollution, visual, oral and air, as well as high levels of overcrowding. The World Health Organisation predicts that in the next 30years most of the world’s population growth will occur in cities and towns of poor countries. This rapid, unplanned and unsustainable pattern of urbanisation, is creating cities into focal points for environmental and health hazards (World Medical Association, 2010).

Environmental health explains the quality of your home, work, school, and social environment. Even the health of our planet plays a factor, air quality and availability of clean filtered water and healthy food. Also the weather and pollution, exposures to chemicals are factors playing against environment. I read an article by Lecia Bushak and she had made up many ways to help improve our environment. “Earth Day isn’t the only day you can take steps to make the environment better. In fact, it’s really easy to go green on a daily basis, and in doing so, you’ll be improving your own life” (Bushak, 2015). Following her step I will do my best to not use my car as much. I will be recycling more that’s for sure. I also will start being better about monitoring my electronics and water use in my home! These few changes will make the difference in my environmental health and I am willing to make these changes!
Are you aware of the detrimental impacts that we have had on our environment? Every second, the Earth is being polluted by poisonous gases, waste products and due to human activities, the world’s climate is dramatically changing. In other words, these impacts do not only harm our environment but also our health. It has been scientifically proven that air pollution causes respiratory diseases and cancer, due to the inhalation of all the harmful chemicals. Water pollution can also lead to typhoid, diarrheal diseases and other waterborne disease, due to the intake of bacteria and parasites. Many people have died due to these health-related illnesses. So why are we still living in this awful condition? Air sustains us and water is a basic necessity, so we should do what we can to prevent pollution. In short, we should protect our environment to ensure a healthy life a...
