Media literacy is defined as "the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and communicate messages in a variety of forms" (Know TV). In more practical terms, media literacy means questioning the media and interpreting its many messages accordingly. Students are exposed to mass quantities of media on a daily basis. They watch television and movies, read books, newspapers, and magazines, listen to music, and in more recent years explore the Internet. This extreme exposure to media outlets leads to the need for education about the media. Media literacy is one way to help educate students about issues in which they are already actively engaged. Media literacy should be implemented into school curriculums as a beneficial learning tool for all students.
There are a number of important reasons to educate students about media literacy in the classroom. First and foremost, media dominate the political and cultural lives of the majority of Americans in the United States. Secondly, media strongly influences values and behaviors. Furthermore, media goes beyond personal and direct experiences. Media also has the ability to influences us subconsciously. In addition, media literacy can increase our enjoyment of the media. Due to the enormous impact media plays in the lives of citizens, media literacy must develop into an integral component of school curriculum.

Perhaps the strongest foundation for media education rests in the fact that increased awareness of media transforms students from passive to active participants in society. Learners must be offered hands-on application opportunities to increase their own knowledge and enjoyment of the media. The integration of formal media analysis with media production is an essential constituent of media literacy. Creative ventures, such as television or radio production, the development of a rock video or song, photography classes, script-writing, web-page development, or hypertext projects should be made available for students' participation and perusal. Students must be exposed to various forms of communication before they can recognize logical disparities, determine the strength of an argument, evaluate mass media, and actively join our democratic society as partners.
Cancer affects Hazel Grace, Augustus Waters, and their families deeply, it represents the lost, hope, and surprise of cancer often, but this is not only true in books,it also affects people in real life, parents start to view their kids differently, and the children start to view themselves as nothing but disease, and the culture they once had starts to change. Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace each have their own struggles, Hazel suffers from thyroid cancer and is terminal, Augustus had been cured, but it popped back making his body full of cancer, he as well ending up with terminal cancer. Often organizations and people would give them a little bit more because they are kids who had inevitability of death to look to. They both having to deal with the fact that they never knew what was coming, or if Hazel would lose Augustus first or if Augustus will lose Hazel first, though eventually that fact became obvious. Their families treat them in a way if they were healthy, they wouldn’t be treated in such a way. In real life there are hundreds who suffer cancer, but less who are terminal. Families have to learn how to deal with this, especially when the person is an adolescent. There are point where The Fault in Our Stars shows how different society becomes for those with cancer, and this is true in real life. Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace experiences and cancer let us view the world of cancer for several.
In conclusion, soccer is my favorite sport because, it is an easy and enjoyable game. It releases energy while you play. Teammates make connections which can last from one game to the rest of their lives. The game also has a rich history that shows the game was enjoyed before modern times. After reading The Fault in Our Stars, I personally had a different perspective on life, death, and living in the moment. This book teaches readers to live fully and in the present, because you never know how much time you really have left. This novel also taught me that love can overpower anything, and sometimes it can even make you stronger in order to make another person happy. Hazel Lancaster and Augustus Water’s love is one of the most powerful romances I have ever read about. They are a good example of what true love really is and this book was extremely heartwarming to read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a desire to read a beautiful yet tragic romance much different than any other typical love story.

Jodi Picoult said the novel is, “Electric, filled with staccato bursts of humor and tragedy”. After reading it I could not agree more. Today The Fault In Our Stars is one of my favorite books which I can read countless times over again. Each time it opens up a new door of thoughts. The philosophical questions wonder through my mind, but I know that I will never get concrete answers. This is the reason for why The Fault In Our Stars is a success and bestseller.

However, its concept has always been controversial (Luke, 1989). The definition of media literacy first appear in the 1992 National Leadership Conference on Media Literacy, which described it as: “The ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and communicate messages” (Rubin, 1998, p.3). Based on this definition, many researchers are putting efforts to redefine it from different aspects. Some definitions of the last decade involved the understanding of how media functioned in society (Messaris, 1998). Others pointed out that media literacy instead depended on the understanding of the technological, political, economic constraints affecting the transmission of mediated messages (Lewis and Jhally, 1998). According to Tyner (1998, p17), definitions range from the tautological (computer literacy is the ability to use computers) to the hugely idealistic: “The term literacy is shorthand for cultural ideals as eclectic as economic development, personal fulfillment, and individual moral fortitude”. Media Literacy is an ability to recognize, interpret, and analyze media messages, to determine the motivation of those responsible for messages, and to assess the impact of messages on individuals and society (Teaching Media Literacy). Media Literacy can pass on the message, whether is on hard news or soft news. Hard news is News that deals with serious topics or events, such as political issues, or breaking news while soft News does not deal with serious topics or events, they are more friendly, more entertainment. Soft news stories sell far better than hard news stories, and social media play a big part of that today. Social Media make it easy to pass on soft news. With hard news it different, I wonder if it’s reliable, most of the time I don’t even stop to verify it. Media Literacy is everywhere, whether is on T.V, Social media, and/or Radio, in the schools, home or on the road, we need to be able to understand what been stated.
