My life has been relatively sheltered. I come from a financially stable family, but times have changed. My parents are not as well off as they used to be, and my future is not as secure as it once was. My future is dependent on my high school life, and the things that influence my actions. The factors that have had the most beneficial impact on my life are the media, my parents, and my ambition. These factors each have their influence on my actions, thoughts, and beliefs. Media has an immense impact on today's youth. Media runs modern America and shapes the way we think, the way we act, and the way we see ourselves. The media has impacted my hopes in dreams in a couple of ways. I aspire to become a successful divorce lawyer based in …show more content…
They have accustomed me to certain standards, and I am used to putting my best work forward for assignments. Over the years, they have expected me to do well in school and get high grades, and I am supposed to live up to their standards. The third and final influential factor of my life is my ambition and will to work hard. I push myself to higher standards in life because I realized that what I want will not be handed to me. Coming from a middle-class family where only one parent has a college degree, I have come to understand the value of an education. We have struggled a lot over the past years with money since my father was diagnosed with Irritable Fatigue Syndrome in 2014. Since the beginning, my parents have stressed the importance of doing well in school; it can get you far in life. I have tried to do the best I can to help out my parents with our financial situation by working a job on the weekends to make some extra money. My parents currently have little money for retirement as they are investing in college for my sister and me. It is up to me to do the best I can in school and life. Their troubles inspire me to work harder at school and try to do my
1. I think media has a great impact on how people behave. The media is defined as listening to music, watching TV, movies, reading magazines, and searching the internet. I think when people here about certain things in songs, or see things in movies or on television it has an effect on them. If there is violence in a TV show or on the news kids can think that's cool to do and do it. A lot of movies show fighting and violence and it effects people and they may do what they see. Television in the home is the greatest source of visual violence for children. Video games expose young children to a level of violence unimaginable. The news also creates fear .
Media affects everyone and everything; There is no escape. Media is everywhere and surrounds everything. Henry Jenkins and Marshall McLuhan have differing points of view as to what the meaning of media is. They both, however, have their particular ponits which they describe well. Jenkin's talks about the different types of cultures that exist, focusing on popular culture, in his essay, "What Everyone Should Know About Popular Culture.
My parents have always pushed me to be better than they were. They knew that if I wanted to be successful I needed to go to college. In highschool, they always made me put my education before anything else. My parents didn’t go to college so they would always tell me to not make that mistake because their lives could have been easier if they would of just invested a few more years into their education. They would also tell me about all the opportunities that missed out on because they decided not to further their education.
Though obviously people are aware of what they are listening to or watching, thoughts and assumptions can drift into their minds without even realizing it. These thoughts that drift in are extremely influential. The massive impact it can have on America's perceptions leads to generalizations, assumptions, and stigmas. Media influence is not always negative, however. In most cases, it has beneficial and positive aspects.
I was raised in an encouraging household where both of my parents greatly valued education. Although they were high school graduates, neither could afford to attend college; a combination of family and financial woes ultimately halted their path. As a result, my parents frequently reminded me that getting a good education meant better opportunities for my future. To my parents, that seemed to be the overarching goal: a better life for me than the one they had. My parents wanted me to excel and supported me financially and emotionally of which the former was something their parents were not able to provide. Their desire to facilitate a change in my destiny is one of many essential events that contributed to my world view.
The effect of the media on young children is especially salient. Young children often learn how to act and behave from what they observe at home, from the adults and older peers they come in contact with, and from what they see on television.
Media also influences the thinking of people and society in general through entertainment as well as advertising and marketing campaigns. It is the creative ideas and boost to the imagination that people get once they watch a television show, movie, commercial or listen to a certain song. The impact any of these forms of media can have on an individual’s thinking can change in that most of them view the various stars in the movies, TV or the music industry as role models and as a result, they start imitating them. This type of influence oftentimes will influence the way someone views a political
Over these past 5 days I have been asked to not only record, but check my consumption of my media intake. At first I thought “ this assignment seems odd, I certainly don 't use or interact with media 8 hours on average like studies say. There 's no way”. But after these five days I can say without a doubt that my initial observations were way off target. Thought the monitoring and recording process I found that on a daily average I am exposed to about 7 hours of media a day. A number I thought I would be nowhere near at the start of the 5 day process. But by digging deeper and deeper into my actual recordings I found many of the answers to not only why my consumption was so high, but also what forms of media were making it such a high number.
What is Media? Did you ever wonder how we can find out information we need, or just want to know what is going on around the world? We use it in all different types of ways to retain the knowledge and communication that we use on a day to day basis. Media is one of the many ways of communication that is used to receive and deliver information to influence people across the world. The use of media is communication being advertised through televisions, radios, internet, magazines and newspapers. These are by far the main resources of how we use media to reach our audiences. Media can be classified as a forum of information that is ready to be released into the world. How we do it is entirely up to the person who withholds that information.
Mass media, over the years, has had a profound effect on American society, on its
Social Scientists say that the average American watches too much television and plays too many video games. I would agree with this, because in high school that is all I did, but not so much for me anymore. Back when I was in high school that is all I did. Watch television, play Nintendo, hang out with my friends. However, now that I am in college, I have had to change my ways. It helps a lot that I don't have either one of those in my dorms.
The media is everywhere and takes up a great deal of people’s everyday lives. People depend on the media to provide them with information that would otherwise be hard to get. The people of society also use the media to communicate with friends, family, and people from all around the world. Also, the media serves as a means for entertainment. Businesses use the media as a way to advertise their products. The media affects society in many different ways; such as, businesses use the media to promote their products, the media effects communication, and the media affects body image and behavior of people in society.
“The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses” (Thinkexist, 2010). The mass media, including news, movies, magazines, music, or other entertainment source has become a part of daily life for many people. As the quote mentions mass media and its power are capable of influencing people’s mind and behavior. Contents in the media introduced to young people make it difficult for them to distinguish between what is real and what is not, as a result stimulating confusion and blind imitation. The mass media plays an important role in the increase of violence, sexual activity, and risky behaviors among teenagers.
We were responsible for managing our homework and schedules. We were not nagged into studying, and did not rely on their reminders to do our work. This was not a burden for me, but a freedom. They encouraged us to put every effort we could into our work, but if we didn’t we were the ones who would bear the consequences. We were punished for never “encouraged” to do well with money or treats. My mother and father emphasized the personal responsibility and consequences of education, instead of using material items as incentives. Because I felt responsible for my education, I wanted to do the best possible. I knew my efforts in school reflected on me personally, and I wanted to do well. I knew that if I could not get A’s in my classes because of a difficulty understanding or learning material, or for other similar reasons, it was fine, but if I only did not get A’s because I did not put effort into my work, it was my fault, my responsibility, and my regret I had to deal with. This understanding and outlook has helped me to do well in school, and motivated me to be a determined, hardworking
