Medea, Euripides Medea begins in a state of uneasiness and much disturbance, due to the splitting of the family, and being left by her husband, Jason. She is left with her children, Mermeros and Pheres and on top of this, Creon banishes Medea and her two sons are banished for Corinth. Jason has married another woman, Glauke who is the daughter of Creon and King of Corinth. Medea, however will not leave things be as is and promises to take a vengeance and destroy all of them. Due to this possibility of revenge after the chain of events, Creon banishes them, however out of pity for her sons, he allows for another day to pass until they leave out of pity for her sons. Little does Creon know that this was a plot to take revenge and she plots her actions and a possible hiding place to live in after she kills them. By sheer coincidence, Aegeus, King of Athens, passes by and in exchange for a cure to his sterility, he promises to give Medea safe harbor. Little does he know, that she is about to kill all these people in the kingdom of Corinth. She then puts her plan into overdrive, as she has back up and has a safe place to go back to. She murders the children by a sword before Jason arrives and she feels the scene in a dragon-pulled chariot provided by her grandfather, Helios, the Sun God. Jason curses her and she curses him back as Jason is left heartbroken and begs for the bodies of their children, however as a final act of revenge, she even denies him this, and takes their children’s bodies away. Jason is left cursing the entire display of event as his hopes of marrying Glauce after running away from Medea have been crushed and the events take a massive toll on his morals and values, as well.
