Meaning of Education

The word education is derived from Latin word “Educere” by Edex and Ducer, which means to lead, to train, to bring up to nourish. So education can be defined as “to lead out the inner potentialities of an individual. Literally it means to collect information or to provide information and utilize the capabilities of the people. The word Education generally means training or teaching of people especially in institutions called schools, to learn or to improve and develop the power of mind and skills. However Taliban movement has greatly affected the education system in Swat. They destroyed and damaged both girls´ and boys´ schools in the area during their onslaught here. Although Taliban did not openly oppose boys´ education but still they damaged it severely along girls’ education. The school dropout rate among girls is very high (almost 50 percent) due to the early marriage culture in the areas but the educational achievements of female students are much higher to that of male students at different levels of education.

As far as women employment is concerned, women with no education or with some basic education are allowed to work due to intensive poverty and high rate of inflation here. With the increase in educational levels of women, there is some qualitative improvement in the employment, as women's share in secure and better paid jobs in the organized sector appears to be higher.
