POINT PARK UNIVERSITY M.B.A. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS CONCENTRATION

Statement of Purpose

For a business person to succeed in today’s global marketplace, a strong understanding of all aspects of international business is paramount. Furthermore, with the current political uncertainty, many international businesses will need to rely on skilled and knowledgeable staff to make sound decisions to remain competitive on the international stage. Therefore, I am choosing to pursue an M.B.A. with an International Business Concentration at Point Park University. With my years of business experience and successful completion of a Bachelor’s in Accounting at Point Park University, the next logical step is to continue with a Master’s in Business Administration, as well as, sitting for my Certified Public Accounting exam.

I have always had a strong passion for accounting, especially tax accounting.

I will use my M.B.A. in International Business to further my career goals in the areas of international tax accounting, an area that I feel would make me stand apart from the crowd in the Pittsburgh employment arena. In fact, I was laid off from Giant Eagle while completing my bachelor’s degree, so I have begun job searching these last few months. It has become very apparent to me that an accounting individual needs to not only have a master’s degree and a CPA license to be successful, they also need a skill that gives them an edge. I decided on the concentration of international business after completing some international courses taken as part of my bachelor’s degree. It was very evident to me that Point Park University has many exceptional international professors that would provide the utmost in quality education for this field of

study.
While in the military, I worked overseas and traveled to many countries which gave me a worldly perspective that will benefit me while I am completing a M.B.A. in International Business. I appreciate the many diverse cultures from around the globe and now as a civilian, I have continued to travel to other countries to expand my understanding of humans. I firmly believe that many of the answers to our issues facing us today can be found through a deeper understanding of one another and through cross cultural exchanges.
Another aspect of my personality that I believe sets me apart is my commitment to the community through volunteering for many non-profits, in addition to, serving on local charitable boards of directors. I have a passion for giving back to the community to make life better for those who are less fortunate than myself. By doing so, I learn not only who I am, but I learn a great deal about humanity itself. I have met some of the most moving and inspiring individuals in my life through my volunteer efforts and I will forever be grateful for the awareness that they have imparted on me.
My long-term goal would be to incorporate my accounting skills, my deep appreciation for the community, and an M.B.A. in International Business in a meaningful way that positively impacts the future of those who desperately need that helping hand. What this final culmination of talents will look like, but I have faith that I will be inspired during my studies and the perfect solution will ultimately take shape.
