“History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” A quote by the famous poet, author, singer, dancer, and actress Maya Angelou. Maya being an African American woman that was also a civil rights activist has had a great effect on history herself. During the fight for African American civil rights Maya worked alongside Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X and will be known as a crucial factor for Africans gaining their rights. Maya Angelou has had a serious effect on history during her lifetime, and she will continue to play a vital role in the nation's history to come. Maya Angelou’s definition of history refers to the some of the world’s darkest moments, and reminds the reader that what’s done is done. Maya’s quote also tells the reader that if approached effectively and properly mistakes of the past can stay in the past and not be relived. This definition is very accurate in all aspects of what it is portraying, events from the past cannot be undone, and however knowledge can be gained from the event in order to prevent a recurrence of the event. Maya Angelou’s definition of history is as accurate as they come. I define history as past events that have shaped and molded the world we live in today.
