It was the day of May 23. The flowers were blossoming and the birds were chirping. The trees were swaying in unison with the cool breeze. The kids were coming out of school, happy it was their last day, laughing and playing as their parents were talking. Most of the students were talking about the run and were wondering what they ran the mile in. Henry was not wondering, he was running home to drop off his backpack and start running.
Henry Taylor loved to run, he would go out every day and run at least 3 miles every day after school. For the first time, Louis had gone through the process of a positive change. He had controlled his destiny, and he liked it. It seemed to him that he had a life cut out for as a runner, or so he
Eventually his brother helped him get into track. His brother helped but what really urged Louis to join was some feminine temptation at a track meet that his brother brought him to. It wasn’t easy because thought he would be too much of a nuisance. Since Louis was a gifted runner the school allowed him to join. It was thought that giving Louis a sport to compete in would build some character in him. What kept Louis competing in track was that he liked the glory and the crowd cheering at him. Otherwise he would give up and resort to a more criminal path than an athlete. His brother became his personal trainer, building up Louis’s athletic abilit...
One day Andrew made a bet with a Rival horse breeder named Mr.Dickinson. The bet was that the Andrews horse Mustang was a faster horse than dickinson's fastest horse that he bred. Mr.Dickinson claimed that his fastest horse Sparky can beat mustang therefore the bet was made. One hot summer day Andrew, his wife, Dickinson, and his wife went to the track. Andrew was in the stable preparing Mustang for the
It was the first day of school for many in Maycomb, including myself. I had just moved from a college in Winston Country. Almost 30 years have past since that day in Maycomb when I first saw the school I was to be teaching at. The classroom smelt stale after being closed up for the whole summer, as I met my students who I would teach for the next year. The one child I remember most had a trail of dirty footprints leading to his desk. The little horror looked like he was straight from the pig pen.
The protagonist wants to be more interactive with his peers. Him and his friends run 4 times around the track
Once Louis was in Torrance High School, Louis had a bad reputation in school because of how bad he is a child. The principle at the school had told Louis that he was unable to join any school activates. His older brother Pete Zamperini told the principle to let him join school teams, the principle asked Pete if he would be able to live with watching his little brother fail. “He’s my brother” (pg 14). Pete had made it eligible for Louis to become athletic. Louis had joined the track team thanks to Pete. Ever since Louis had made the track team he was running day and night. After a little bit of training, Louis was able to run a mile in
The students could hardly sit still during penultimate period the day before the long Columbus Day Weekend. The school was gearing up for the annual pep rally held during the last period of the school day before the Columbus Day Weekend. Lots of Calvary Hill teachers would stick it to the students before long weekends and vacations by giving tests and quizzes, others would give up the instructional time and let the kids watch a movie. Peter didn’t test or let the kids waste time with movies, he structured the time with games of Jeopardy and other fun activities that kept the kids engaged and thinking about the content material, while still having fun. When the final bell rang, the students could hardly believe that the period had flown by. They gathered up their materials and headed for the door.
IN the early morning light, robert chippendale, English teacher for more than 20 years at Tower High, punches in at 7:04. he will never touch the card again. he is unaware that before this day is over, Tower will be rocked by murder, spotlighted by the ten o'clock news and denounced by the general public. Dressed in a blue jogging suit, he carries over his shoulder his sports jacket and newer slacks- his school clothes- in a garment bag, which he hangs in the teacher's locker room. Lightly jogging down the stairs to the back dorr, he pushes it open to cross the short path to the running track. He lets his mind wander. Is it too late to change his life? Season spent running in circles, starting and stopping at the same point on the track, a metaphor, he thinks, for his teaching career, now rutted like the track itself,in the soft years of familiarity. he bends down to retie his laces and notices that the air is surprisingly
The night before, I didn’t practice my English so I knew what to say. By now, I knew most of the words, so I would just let my heart guide me. Besides, my cramped old house, which is actually just a junky garage in an abandoned alley, is too small to let out my feelings. Once I got to school after a cold walk in the snow, I placed myself by her locker and waited. Fourteen minutes had gone by, and still no sign of Lily. I only had a minute to get to class now, so I hurriedly collected myself and ran to my locker. I was disappointed, knowing that without Lily here, it would be the hardest day of school. I opened my locker and to my surprise a note fell to the floor. I quickly picked it up and gazed at the neat handwriting that clearly spelled my name.
My feet are sore from rushed reps, and the sun is beating down on my back as I spin the routine for “America the Beautiful” for the umpteenth time. Mr. Rice had no sympathy despite this being the last day of band camp. The longer that I spent marching circles around the school, the more nervous I was about running out of time. It wasn't necessarily anybody's fault that the clock was ticking down, and that I was afraid of losing everything. The metronome beat endlessly, speeding up as if it wanted rest as much as we did.
It was one of those lovely spring days in May. With all those spring mornings that would be coming his way Michael would bear witness to many of them. But there was a reason why he specifically chose this day, for he hid away a memory in his subconscious. Saturday.....yes, it was a Saturday. His mother would not have asked him for his help unless it had been a Saturday. Michael had been coming up the stairs when she summoned him.
I decided for my first real day in Sydney, being a pilot, I would take
The end of April is always dreary, but luckily this was the first sunny day in two weeks. Daniel and James, the two closest friends in the world, decided to go for a run. They balance each other perfectly. Daniel, the tall, tan athlete; and James, the small, skinny nerd. They could not be any more different, but, both had a burning passion for running, and felt trapped by the gloomy, somber drizzle. They itched to get out and run. The path they always take runs behind Daniel’s house, and through the wooded city park. They took this path because -for the most part- it was secluded, both found it easy to slip out of reality as they ran. The other reason they enjoyed this path was the challenge it presented, it twisted up and around the steepest
It was the second semester of fourth grade year. My parents had recently bought a new house in a nice quite neighborhood. I was ecstatic I always wanted to move to a new house. I was tired of my old home since I had already explored every corner, nook, and cranny. The moment I realized I would have to leave my old friends behind was one of the most devastating moments of my life. I didn’t want to switch schools and make new friends. Yet at the same time was an interesting new experience.
I never really thought about where my life was going. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me.
