On the first day of 6th grade I saw this one person in my class and I thought that he was one of those fancy rich people that think that everything revolves around themselves. As the year went on I started to figure out that he was not like that I started to figure out that he was really nice and really funny. Then I figure out what his name was. His name was Luke and threw one of my other friends knew him then me and Luke started to be friends and I had originally thought that he was one of those stuck up rich people. Then after 3 years we are still best friends and that I figure out that I shouldn’t have judged him by how he looked. In the novel Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick this story demonstrates that you should not judge a person …show more content…
In fact, when we first see him he thinks this about himself, “I never had a brain until Freak came along…” This shows that he thinks he is dumb and a butthead and then when Freak came along he felt that he had a brain. Furthermore Max said “I go “You want this back or what?” “I give him the bird-thing.” However, we see him giving the bird thing to Freak and that’s how they end up meeting each other and how they become friends for the rest of the story. This refutes our initial judgment by showing that Max is caring towards Freak and that he is not the neanderthal that people think he is because they judged Max by his …show more content…
In fact, when we first see him, he says “Your lying kid, you can’t fool me”. This is showing that Kenny doesn’t trust anyone even his own son. This shows that he wants to take his son back and spend the rest of their lives together even though Kenny just kidnaped Max. However, later we see him trying to hide from the cop’s because he just kidnaped his own son and he violated a restraining order.. This confirms our initial judgment by showing that Kenny Kane is a kidnaper and that he doesn't care how much trouble he gets
An example of their adventures is when Kevin mouths at Tony D. and his gang, defending Max and himself; after of which he discovers that Max could not have fought Tony and incredulously questions, “You mean you couldn’t take him and I was giving him lip?” (31). Kevin’s words reveal his trust in Max. He incited Tony, believing Max would be able to protect the both of them. The boys’ next conflict, an encounter with Iggy, the head of a troublemaking motorcycle gang, and Loretta, his wife, show Max’s concern for Kevin and his wanting to keep Kevin safe: “I feel real bad for Freak because he hated it when people try to rub his head for luck, but I don’t say a word, I just run us home, thumping the short way back around the pond, and my big feet never trip me up because I’m on automatic, I’m this running machine” (72). Max is very attuned and sensitive to Kevin’s feelings, an important quality in a friendship. Also, his desire to protect Kevin and keep him away from Iggy and Loretta prevent his clumsiness from impeding his speedy progress to home. The conflicts Freak the Mighty encounter prove the boys’ undeniable teamwork and
Max and Freak relationship is very good. They both like each other and our good friends.Frea thinks of Max as his legs, so he can walk. Max thinks of Freak as his Brain, so he can think and be smart. It’s almost like they
Also, he had received a nickname during daycare Kicker.“‘Hey you! Mutt and Jeff! Frankenstein and Igor! Don’t look around, I’m talking to you, boneheads. What is this, a freak show?’”(Philbrick 29). Tony D is the one who said this quote. He and his gang ganged up on Freak and Max at the carnival and of which they ended up in the millpond. Even though Max may seem like a giant, but he is very kind hearted and cares for everyone around him. For example, when Freak dies, Max runs through everyone he sees just to get to Freak. If a doctor was in his way they would have been crushed. Metaphorically of course. Another example is when Loretta Lee was being strangled Max save her by throwing himself onto his Father.
A Ticket out of the Past By (Teresa) Yung-Ching Chuang. Life is like an ascent, the more you climb, the higher you will get. J. C. Burke skilfully undertakes this philosophy as a source of inspiration for ‘The Story of Tom Brennan’. It is not another crazy adventurous tale with a heroic storyline that seems unrealistic; the novel is about individual representation as Burke insightfully illustrates the long and slow journey of Tom Brennan, navigating through his road of self-discovery that eventually leads to his destination and achieves his “ticket out of the past” (Burke, pg 182). The catalyst of the novel is a traumatic car accident causing two instant deaths and one paralysis.
In the short story The Devil and Tom Walker, written by Washington Irving, the protagonist Tom Walker, is characterized as being a negative man. This is demonstrated through Tom Walker being characterized as being meager, outspoken, fearless, greedy, stubborn, and unloving.
In The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway, Lady Brett Ashley is a representative of the New Woman, changing the American landscape. This is shown when she changes from a female to male role, as she pleases. For example, when she takes the place of a male role she demands that people please her such as, when she ordered Jake to “kiss” (Hemingway, 15) her “once more before [they] get there.” (Hemingway, 15) Although changed back to her female role when “she gave [Jake] her hand as she stepped down” (Hemingway, 15) For a man to help a woman out of a car is known as a chivalrous and an expected action, especially in the past, in addition, the man is suppose to initiate the kiss. Brett is a woman who wants to display a secure, stable, satisfied and independent life to the point where readers are not able to
People always say never judged a person by their cover, yet some of us still do it without even trying sometimes. I have done this on multiple occasions without really trying to judge a person. I once had an experience where I was trying out for a new club team and I saw this girl who looked really mean and scary because of the expression on her face. I always thought if I ever talk to her she would be mean, but one practice we started to talk and she wasn’t at all the person I thought she ways. It turns out that she is a nice person who just takes soccer very seriously. This just shows that we can have a certain opinion on someone by their looks, but they may be completely opposite from the way they appear. There’s this book call “Freak the Mighty” which has a good way of showing the theme of not judging a person
On the contrary, these good traits could have came from Max’s caretakers, Grim and Gram. These were the same people that raised his mother, and it could have been that both mother and son had such positive character traits because of their parentage. The only hole in this point is that, as described by Max, before Max ‘rescued’ Freak at the fourth of July firework show, Grim and Gram didn’t pay much attention to him, or weren’t exactly well-warmed toward him. I can assume that throughout his childhood, he didn’t interact too heavily with his grandparents, and not much nurturing had occurred. This decreases the overall impact of Grim and Gram’s parenting, and strongly suggests that the capacity to be a good person, just like his mother, must have
The boy Dana, in the book Hoot is an extremely dark character because he is violent, he is a bully, and most importantly because he is a delinquent.
His father kills his mother, then the father goes to jail and Max gets stuck with his grandparents. Max is lost, needs a friend desperately and needs help. He even admits it on the first page, “I never had a brain until Freak came along.” He always thought that his head was empty. “Not that I have any ideas. My brain is vacant” (6). He said he was brainless, stupid, couldn’t learn… He did not believe in himself and Freak came along to help him understand that there is an “...unlocked door just waiting for you to open it.” -Unknown
In The Color Purple the realities of an abusive upbringing are deeply explained to the reader. In The Color Purple, Shug Avery teaches characters to hold the vigor and autonomy that is hidden somewhere inside of them.
All thanks to his friend Walter kugler. Walter is Max 's best friend. Walter and Max started battling each other growing up, yet soon got to be companions. Max left since Hans has shown love for a Jew in a parade, and Max realized that Hans ' home would be hunted by the NSDAP down evidence of
The first aspect of Willy's character that affected his failure was his pride. Willy's pride caused him to in many situations make very poor and unethical decisions, that affected both himself and his family. An example of this is through the conversation between Willy and Charley “CHARLEY: ‘You want a job?’ WILLY: ‘I got a job, I told you that. [After a slight pause] What the hell are you offering me a job for?’ CHARLEY: ‘Don’t get insulted.’ WILLY: Don’t insult me.”(DOAS: pg x) Willy does not take the offer which is an obvious example of a poor decision. He makes this decision because he sees this generous whole hearted gesture as a kind of pitiful handout that his pride restricts him from taking. By not taking this handout willy puts his self pride infront of
It is evident that Max tries to escape his reality and get lost in a world where he can find freedom from his complex troubles, much like every other child in the world today whom does not know how to deal with such chaotic and complicated thoughts. Max, unknowingly comes face to face with all his emotions through the lives of others, helping him to come to an understanding in his escape. In the film “Where the Wild Things Are” Max’s sister ignores him, he feels his mothers new boyfriend is taking her from him and he is overall portrayed as a lonely, lost character. Max is told by his mother that he has gone out of control, which essentially is the last straw in initiating him to run away to where he eventually ends up where the wild things are. According to the article “Fantasy - Necessary for Sanity and Morality” in order for proper development, “A child needs to understand what is going on within his conscious self so that he can cope with that which goes on within his unconscious.” This can be attained by daydreaming through stories and scenarios to ...
...ink he shouldve just put him out. I undestand that him putting max out was keeping him and his family safe, but i think he couldve found somwhere else for Max to saty. This part appeals to the readers logos. while reading this part the reader was trting to understand why Hans couldnt find somewhere else for Max to stay. Hans could've just let Max stay, and really showed how brave he was during the end of the book. This cowadice action was a disadvantage for Max because he had to go through so much once he was put out.
