Although there is much evidence out there that Mata Hari was not a spy, there are people that still believe she committed espionage against the French during World War I. The French police claimed that she had cost the allied fifty thousand troops lives (Edwards 1). Although any information that was passed on between her and her companions could be found in a newspaper in Spain, according to Julie Wheelwright of the University of London (2). Another claim that many people have made is that Mata Hari could never keep her story straight. They claimed that she would constantly change where she was and what she was doing at various times when she was being interviewed at Saint-Lazare prison (Arbuckle 3). Think about if you were in her situation, being constantly interviewed for over four …show more content…
Fifty thousand lives to be exact (69). Some claim that Mata Hari was recruited as a German spy, and she took this position due to her need for new adventure and excitement in her life (Sullivan 66). Although of this information, in 1929 the Germans released information saying they had no accounts claiming that Mata Hari was ever worked under their service (Kramer 33). This makes most evidence against her irrelevant when it comes to arguing the court case.
Even thought, there is no proven evidence against Mata Hari there are still people that claim to this day she was a spy. In 2014, a MI6 agent named Lisa was reported saying: "women made bloody good spies because they had a better understanding of emotion..... mothers had particular advantages because they were seem as less threatening" ("Why Mata Hari is a better spy than James Bond" 1). This MI6 agent was making claims about Mata Hari and her spying profession. Also Captain Bouchardon, in charge of bringing her to her execution sight, said: "she was the type of women who is born to be a spy" (Beamish

task of speaking to secure her own freedom when she was placed on trial for obstructing the draft in 1917. The country was awash in patriotism, and she was prosecuted as an enemy of the state. When preparing her speech, she realized that a seated jury would be a microcosm of the country's national spirit. Jurors may have had children or loved ones committed or lost to the Great War. Her position, though heartfelt and eloquently expressed, with an attempt to express her own patriotism, was subversive and threatening to the population.

“If I could have convinced more slaves that they were slaves, I could have freed thousands more.” People always wonder why Harriet went back for the other slaves. There are many perspectives about Harriet Tubman. For example, white people from the south may see her as a villain for breaking laws. On the other hand African Americans see her as being a hero, for rescuing them from slavery. Although most historians consider Harriet Tubman as being a villain in the South, in reality she was one of the best heroes for the North during that time period.
Nancy Hart was a fearless woman who became a spy for the Confederacy. She was very sneaky and lethal. For these reasons, she has became a very well-known women involved in the Civil War.
...e than most abolitionists. She was very smart and she always knew what she was doing to ensure that she stayed free, and to make sure that she was able to help others become free. While making her 19 trips back and forth with the Underground Railroad and using her strategy of following the North Star, she was able to avoid being caught. While doing her work in the civil war, she used her intelligence to make cures to help the sick people and her bravery to organize a raid to harass whites, which she never got into trouble for. She took great risks and it was all because she wanted to be free and she wanted other slaves to be free as well. Harriet Tubman was a very caring, intelligent, and venturous person who was able to free 300 slaves including some of her family. I think these qualities are what made Harriet Tubman so much more successful than most abolitionists.
Whitney Houston to most was a very amazing and talented person who allowed life and its mishaps break her down. As a young girl she grew up in the church where she felt like it was a sign from God that she should be singing. Freud believes that religion is an illusion, an attempt to gain control over the external world. In his eyes saying that anything is a sign from God depends on how you vision life. There were times in her life where she would produce more music just to get thru the thing that she would be going through. She would use her music as a defense mechanism to get away from all of the abuse, problems with her marriage, neglect, and drugs. Defense mechanisms are ways to distort reality to reduce anxiety: Rationalization is giving a positive reason to a stressor and regression is withdrawing from reality and going to pastime.
Pauline Cushman, born as Harriet Wood, was an astonishing woman even though her family was not always there for her and she left them when she was 18. She was a stupendous American actress which lead her to be a stupendous Union spy during the Civil War. Her greatest accomplishment was being a Union spy and deceiving the Confederates. She was widowed two times, but was still a marvelous woman.
In my opinion, I think that Harriet Tubman truly was a hero. She was able to rescue so many people from slavery, Serve in the war, and still even in old age build a home for old and indigent. Harriet Tubman is a great role model. I'm glad i did my report on her.
Elizabeth Bentley was born in Connecticut in 1907, raised by Republican, Episcopalian parents, who passed away prematurely before 1925. She attended Vassar on a full scholarship, did postgraduate work at Columbia University, and had a graduate fellowship at University of Florence. Despite being a seemingly normal American young woman, she was intrigued by Communism and ultimately joined the Soviet Union as a spy. Elizabeth Bentley has an intriguing story, examined in great detail by both Kathryn Olmstead and Lauren Kessler in Red Spy Queen: A Biography of Elizabeth Bentley and Clever Girl: Elizabeth Bentley, the Spy Who Ushered in The McCarthy Era, respectively. An important point to understand about Bentley is that she had a tendency to mislead
Harriet Tubman was born to enslaved parents in Dorchester County, Maryland, and originally named Araminta Harriet Ross. Her mother, Harriet “Rit” Green, was owned by Mary Pattison Brodess. Her father, Ben Ross, was owned by Anthony Thompson, who eventually married Mary Brodess. Araminta, or “Minty,” was one of nine children born to Rit and Ben between 1808 and 1832. While the year of Araminta’s birth is unknown, it probably occurred between 1820 and 1825.
