Sometimes, people can surpass their current limits and form new boundaries; however, other times people are not so fortunate. These unfortunate times often lead to injury, including workplace accidents, sporting incidents, disease afflictions, as well as others; any or all of which could bring about the need of rehabilitation services. Occupational therapy (OT) theory offers valuable contribution to support professionalization since possessing a unique body of knowledge is essential to define a profession (Cooper, 2012). To utilize theory effectively, it is essential to differentiate between generic and specific theory as knowledge of the core theory helps to form OT identity and action as a practicing practitioner. In this essay, OT theory refers only to philosophy and OT specific models. Frame of references (FOR) will not be included since it can be shared with the other professions (Boniface & Seymour, 2012).
“Where am I? How did I get here?” is what many stroke patients say after recovering from an acute or severe stroke. A stroke is also known as a cerebrovascular accident, a life-threatening event where the brain is deprived of adequate oxygen. A physical therapist’s duty is to provide assistance and education that will help patients rehabilitate and return to a normal routine. As of today, there is a new treatment called treadmill training with partial body weight support that facilitates recovery of a patient’s ability to walk sooner after a surgery. Is the expense for treadmill training with partial body weight support which includes expensive equipment and constant physical therapy supervision worth it if it decrease the amount of time it takes a person to get better? Is it ultimately more efficient than traditional physical therapy? My argument will state that treadmill training with partial body weight support is worth the expense and provides better techniques than traditional physical therapy.

Massage Therapy The practice of massage therapy is rapidly growing in the United States. It has numerous benefits to offer and is becoming more widely accepted as a medical practice by doctors and the general public. Massage is defined as: …the systematic manual or mechanical manipulations of the soft tissues of the body by such movements as rubbing, kneading, pressing, rolling, slapping, and tapping, for therapeutic purposes such as promoting circulation of the blood and lymph, relaxation of muscles, relief from pain, restoration of metabolic balance, and other benefits both physical and mental (Beck 3). The career route I am interested in pursuing is Therapeutic Exercise / Physical Therapy. I plan on becoming a physical therapist after I successfully graduate CSUN with my bachelors degree in Kinesiology. A physical therapist’s job is to improve, sustain, and restore people’s maximum movement and functional ability. They also relieve pain and prevent permanent physical disabilities in their clients.
The profession I plan to pursue after graduation is Physical Therapy. Physical Therapist are clinicians who work in a variety of healthcare settings such as hospitals, orthopedic institutes, and nursing homes to name a few. These highly skill professionals diagnose and treat folks who have medical problems, athletic injuries, or other deteriorating health conditions involving their musculoskeletal system. Patients are sent to physical therapists in order to get "hands on" on care for their conditions. In order to maintain a healthier lifestyle, physical therapists exercise prevention techniques with their patients. These techniques could include developing fitness exercises and wellness programs that can be consistently followed by their patients. As I grew older, I developed an attraction towards sports medicine/rehabilitation which could be exemplified by my profession of choice. Physical Therapists are able to combine health with athletes involved in sports, a niche I could definitely see myself in the future.
