Mass Media: Development and Literacy
Over the last century, there have been significant developments in the evolution of mass media. The mass media consist of the print media, broadcast media, and social media and can be described as the channels of communication (Campbell, 2016). The development of each media influenced the American culture. If one were to ask a group of people how they keep up with the media in today’s world, one would get different answers. Therefore, mass media is a valuable commodity.

Mass Media began with paper printing and it can be traced back to China as early as 100 C.E. In the 20th century, the print media was the leading form of mass media. Books, newspaper, magazines, newsletter and any other information printed on paper made up the print media. Paper printing changed to modern printing in the mid-fifteenth century when it was introduced to the printing press (Campbell, 2016). The printing press was a machine that was used for fast duplication of paper news leading to more rapid production. Social media is an advanced form of both print and broadcast media, and it is a technological advanced that facilitates the sharing of information. With the invention of the computer, smartphones, and tablets we can view, read and listen to the news wherever we are. The use of Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook has dramatically changed the way campaigns are covered and how Americans interact with each other.
