Orbit Hall of Fame
27 Major League Baseball teams have mascots. One of those teams, the Houston Astros, has a mascot that stands out. Orbit is a fun mascot that we believe should be in the mascot hall of fame. The Mascot Hall of Fame is coming in 2018. Its purpose is to expose children to fun, role-modeling mascots. We believe that Orbit is a great role model and would be a perfect fit for the Mascot Hall of Fame. We need your help to get Orbit nominated.
The first reason why Orbit should be in the Hall of Fame is that we believe that Orbit has demonstrated a significant impact in the sport of baseball. As a general rule, a mascot should make the sport in which their team participates more enjoyable. Also, as a general rule when mascots are

interacting with players, it makes the sport more enjoyable. According to MLB.com “ During pregame, you can often find him giving a fun Astros "welcome" to some of baseball's top athletes such as Mike Trout, Chris Archer, Francisco Lindor and Adrian Beltre.” He has also demonstrated a huge impact on baseball by bringing the Houston Astros 1st place in the AL West. This shows that Orbit makes the game of baseball much more enjoyable for the players and the audience and that Orbit is worthy of being inducted into the mascot hall of fame. In addition to demonstrating a major impact on the sport, we think Orbit should be in the hall of fame is because he is fun, memorable, and unique.
As a general rule Orbit is fun by having birthday parties and doing imitations. Orbit makes nearly 300 appearances a year at birthday parties and events. It’s so much fun watching him do weird and funny things. Also as a general rule is that he is also memorable by him participating in many promotional stunts throughout the year Cypress Triathlon with other Houston-area mascots and he is also memorable by trying to play games when he can’t. An example of him playing something is Twister. He tries to play but ends up hating it and ripping it. Everybody loves to watch stunts and people trying to play games, but they can’t because you never forget them. It is hilarious. Also as a general rule is that Orbit is unique by releasing a book called Orbit's First Day of School! The book covers topics such as making new friends, how to handle bullies, etc. You should vote him for the mascot hall of fame because he is one the best …show more content…
mascots. The third reason why we believe Orbit from the Houston Astros should be nominated for the mascot hall of fame because his performances are incredibly memorable. He is funny, playful, and interacts with the crowd. His mascot costume is a cute and fun design. He doesn’t do inappropriate performances, but he is hilarious. Orbit is an excellent mascot for the Houston Astros because he perfectly represents a highly impressive team. The final reason we believe Orbit should be inducted into the mascot hall of fame because he has a major impact on the community.
One way he does is him attending events like community parades and community festivals. He also makes appearances at private events like corporate events and birthday parties. Orbit also does promotional stunts including rappelling down the side of the four seasons hotel, the BP MS 150 bike ride, and multiple different tag-teaming events. These stunts help everyone in the community to come, participate, and watch the entertainment. Orbit visits schools many times a year to talk about fundamental topics with the kids and adults to educate them more. He talks about literacy, saying no to drugs, anti-bullying, leading a healthy lifestyle, and STEM. These things help the community and have a considerable impact because more people will at least try and not bully, do drugs, etc. He even wrote a children’s book called “Orbit’s First Day Of School!” It was released in 2017 and talks about important topics like making new friends, dealing with bullies, celebrating strengths, embracing differences, and
respect. On the other hand, some would argue that Orbit should not be inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame. They may think that some of his performances are inappropriate, for example when he ripped off his pants at a game. However, these performances that some people may consider inappropriate are really just acts of harmless fun which make people laugh and have more fun at the games. Also, almost every mascot has performances that are meant to make people laugh and are not meant to be inappropriate. In conclusion, Orbit is a mascot that stands out and is overall a great mascot. We believe Orbit would be a great fit for the mascot hall of fame because he is fun, memorable, and a great role model. However some may think that Orbit should not be inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame because some of his performances may seem inappropriate although, many of Orbit’s performance are fun, funny, and memerable an Works Cited CBS Houston. “6 Reasons Why the Astros’ Orbit Is The Second Best Mascot In Baseball.” CBS Houston, 27 Aug. 2014, houston.cbslocal.com/2014/08/27/6-reasons-why-the-astros-orbit-is-the-second-best-mascot-in-baseball/. The article “Indian Mascots-You’re Out” by Jack Shakley, was published in the Los Angeles Times in August 2011. The author argues the issues of sport teams having Native American names. The author wrote the article due to more and more Native Americans protesting at stadiums. This article can be divided into five sections. In the introduction, the author opens the article by giving us history on how he first encountered this topic in the early 1950s. He tells the readers, that his father gave him money to buy a baseball cap, but was also conflicted. He originally wanted a Yankees hat because of a fellow Oklahoma Mickey, Mantle came up as being touted as the rookie of the year. Since he is mixed with Muscogee/Creek, he felt misplaced to the
On July 23, 1962, in the charming village of Cooperstown, New York, four new members were inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame. As they gathered around the wooden platform, the fans reminisced about America’s national pastime. Edd Roush and Bill McKechnie, sixty-eight and seventy-four years old respectively, were two of the inductees that day (Robinson 142). They were old-timers chosen by the veterans’ committee. Bob Feller and Jackie Robinson, both forty-two, were youngsters by comparison. According to the rules of the Hall of Fame, a player must be retired for five years before he can be considered for induction. Both Feller and Robinson were elected in the first year they were eligible (141).
There are very many people who vote for players to go in the Hall of Fame, but many people may have the same opinion as Tom Verducci who stated,
Bart Giamatti’s decision to ban Pete Rose from the Baseball Hall of Fame was not a fair decision at all. Pete Rose was placed on Baseball’s ineligible list in 1989 when commissioner of baseball, Bart Giamatti concluded that Rose had bet on baseball games, including games involving his own team, the Cincinnati Reds. In an agreement made with Baseball, Rose accepted his banishment from the sport. Although he never admitted to having gambled on baseball games (Maury). Pete Rose was a phenomenal baseball player and manager. He was accused of gambling. His team while he was managing was supposedly involved. Bart Giamatti’s severe punishment of Pete Rose is a very controversial topic in the world of sports. There are a few rules that must have been followed to be inducted to the Hall of Fame. The one that is keeping Rose away is rule five. Rule five states: Voting shall be based upon the player’s record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team or teams on which the player played (Maury). This rule has been tested and beaten many times. Many players have entered the Baseball Hall of Fame such as the very unlikable Ty Cobb, the drinking Babe Ruth, the umpire abusing John McGraw, the racist Cap Anson, Gaylord Perry a suspected cheater, and the gambling Leo Durocher. Those are just a few of the baseball players who somehow made into the Hall of Fame and got passed rule five (Ritter). Pete Rose’s problem was not even as severe as all of these other men.
players around the NFL. The number of athletes that protested would increase from a couple on each team to nearly all of them. With the only exception being, the Dallas Cowboys. Who as a team took a knee prior to the anthem, but would all stand during it. This was due to the owner Jerry Jones why has said that no player will sit or take a knee on his team or he would cut them, but more on that later. Then there was one other person that would not join his team in protest. That person was Pittsburgh Steelers player Alejandro Villanueva. Who is a former United States Army Ranger.
Teams in every sport, at every level of competition, have a mascot. It is the mascot that represents the competitive spirit and team identity, motivating players and fans alike. Does the symbol chosen have any impact on whether a team wins or loses? Unlikely. But the choice of a Native American mascot continues to ignite debate and controversy among athletes, fans and alumni, as well as those people who might otherwise be disinterested in sports. Utilizing an Indian mascot is nothing more than a veiled attempt at hate speech.
Despite a dominant 40-10 win against the San Fransisco 49ers, it is not all good news for the Dallas Cowboys looking back on Sunday evening’s showing. The Dallas Cowboy’s lost All-Pro kicker, Dan Bailey, mid game, due to a groin strain in his kicking leg. It was announced this morning that Bailey could be out for several weeks while recovering.
In all sports, teams use mascots to represent their team’s pride, strength, and will to win. The role the mascot plays is an intimidation factor, as well as something to motivate the team. Teams will have mascots that range from anything, from an animal to an inanimate object, like a hammer or an orange. Mascots rarely fall under scrutiny, except for the mascots that represent Native American tribes, people, or cultures. Many schools and teams use some sort of Native American reference as a mascot.
Mascots are beloved figure heads for sports teams everywhere almost every sport team has a mascot of some kind; that said, sometimes instead of bring people together it can cause a rift between two cultures. Such as Washington’s D.C.’s football team the “Redskins” often the word redskin was a derogatory word used against the Native Americans and while it may seem as though paying homage to the Native American community the overall stereotyped actions of the fans themselves as well as the sugarcoating of the previously racial slur has done little to bring the two cultures together and instead created a larger disconnect between white and Native American. The name Redskin should be retired and replaced so that rather

The NCAA has been around for more than 100 years. Recruiting has evolved immensely over this period of time. Dozens of recruiting laws have been added over the years. The NCAA is strict about these laws, and many schools have been punished for breaking them. One law that many coaches are trying to get passed is the law against the recruiting of young athletes. Why is this? College coaches are beginning to recruit athletes at a very young age. This can have a negative impact on the athlete’s mental and physical state. The pressure exerted on these young children to decide their future completely takes away their childhood. It is also an enormous amount of pressure on the athlete’s parents. It can be hard trying to find the right balance between getting involved in your child’s decision or handing them the full reigns in
Being an athletic director seems like an amazing job because of the interaction with people and being around athletics. A lot of kids are involved in at least one sport, if not more, during their life time. It 's been outrageous , how many kids get injured per year playing youth sports for school and organizations. The youth who play sports receive plenty medical attention throughout the year due to injuries cause from actions made occuring in games. Health plays a big part in sports because if your are are not healthy many things can go wrong with the body including dehydration, heart problems , and muscle spasm. Playing a sport can be very hard to juggle with school and also getting talked down by coaches and parents. Dehydration is a high possibility because of outside sports that happen in the spring/summer and playing and practicing in humid conditions that you are not well prepared for can be bad and there will be consequences.
