Education, as defined by female authors of the 1700s, is a privilege often awarded to young male individuals and neglected to all female individuals due to the specific social expectations of both men and women of the time period. While some women chose to accept these sexist expectations and continue living within such social boundaries, others became ambassadors of a movement to equalize education and break social norms throughout both genders. Author Mary Wollstonecraft expressed her exasperation with the absence of education standards for women by explaining how men viewed women as less than human:

Here she celebrates in a way her freedom and identifies with the struggle of other women. According to Mary Jane Androne Ramatoulaye uses her “range of emotions and opinions to express her evolving consciousness of women’s roles in her culture” (38). She also not only stands up for herself, she speaks on behalf of her girls and other women. Mary Bryant was in the group of the first convicts (and the only female convict) to ever escape from the Australian shores. Mary escaped from a penal colony which often is a remote place to escape from and is a place for prisoners to be separated. The fact that Bryant escaped from Australia suggests that she was a very courageous person, this was a trait most convicts seemed to loose once they were sentenced to transportation. This made her unique using the convicts.
Furthermore, there are several occurrences of the harm against women in regards to Mrs. Dempster. She undergoes a stark change in personality after being hit with the snowball, described by the denizens of Deptford as having “gone simple”. One of Mary Dempster’s most shocking acts after the fact is when she is found having sex with a tramp (later revealed to have been done in order to restore his faith). Her husband, Amasa, decides that Mary is too much of a burden to him and ties her to chair, making her unable to leave her home. Despite this, the young Dunny does not think of Mary as a burden, in fact referring to her as his “greatest friend”. Opposing this view is the radical, or feminist, version of education, echoed in the works of such authors as Mary Wollstonecraft and Hester Chapone. Chapone, a member of the feminist bluestockings, writes in her Letters on the Improvement of the Mind, Addressed to a Young Lady that young girls should "seize every opportunity of improvement" through the study of "those persons, and those books, from which you can learn true wisdom." In her Vindication of the Rights of Woman, Mary Wollstonecraft presents the idea that women could be on par with men if they were given an equal education. This idea is clearly expressed in the character of Sibella Valmont, Mr. Valmont's niece, who at one point tells her learned friend, Caroline Ashburn:

Wollstonecraft made this statement in response to Roseau dictating that if society "[Educated] women like men..." (Wollstonecraft 63), and women would resemble the male sex, and then carry less power over men. Instead of succumbing to men, Wollstonecraft stressed how education could elevate a women to reach equal statue in society. Following similar ideas to the Tao Te Ching and the Art of War, Wollstonecraft serves education as a tool of discipline to women who can use it to help elevate them in society. Wollstonecraft points out in her introduction that, "One cause to [the problem of women sacrificing their usefulness and strength to beauty attributes] to a false system of education..." (Wollstonecraft 6), and how a reformation and push for women to better educate themselves and look past what is currently there will help them reach higher status in society; therefore giving them their own independence. Born as a free woman in London, England Mary argued for education along with unjust laws for women that subjected them to a form of slavery. With Mary Daly we discover that in the Christian faith and many other religions, we portray God as male. Education for women in the 1800s was far different from what we know today. During her life, a girl was taught more necessary skills around the home than the information out of school books. A woman’s formal education was limited because her job opportunities were limited—and vice versa. Society could not conceive of a woman entering a profession such as medicine or the law and therefore did not offer her the chance to do so. It was much more important to be considered 'accomplished' than thoroughly educated. Elizabeth Bennet indicated to her sisters that she would continue to learn through reading, describing education for herself as being unstructured but accessible. If a woman desired to further he education past what her classes would teach her, she would have to do so independently, and that is what most women did.
Vindication of the Rights for Women by Mary Wollstonecraft was published in 1792, during the French Revolution. Wollstonecraft preached that intellect will always govern to persuade women not to endeavor to acquire knowledge but convince them that the soft phrases, acceptability of heart, delicacy of sentiment, and refinement of taste, are most preferred. By intellect, I mean the men because they were the ones that were allowed to get an education therefore allowing them to become intellectual. Wollstonecraft cleverly does not try to prove her point through protests or accusations, but argue that women are not naturally inferior to men, but appear to be only because they lack education. She suggests that both men and women should be treated as rational beings and imagines a social order founded on reason. With her son’s life hanging in the balance, Mary Ewald conveys the importance of setting her son free to her audience, President Saddam Hussein, by telling him personal facts, making her son seem harmless and appealing to the leader’s religion and way of life. Ewald keeps a matter of fact and informatory tone in the first the paragraphs before switching to a more desperate and pleading tone at the end to really convey the importance of letting her son go.
In A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, Wollstonecraft argues many things throughout the story. She feels women are not being educated as equally as men are and neglected in society. Wollstonecraft contends that women should have an instruction that is comparable with their position in the public area and afterward continues to rethink that position, asserting that women are the key to the country since they’re the ones who care for their children. In addition, they could be ‘companions’ to their husbands rather than simple wives. Throughout the passage. Mary argues woman should be educated. In addition, she feels that the good educated women will in fact be great wives and mothers and ultimately participate in the entire nation in a positive manner. There is no reason for women to be treated differently than men.
Mary Wollstonecraft was a self-educated, radical philosopher who wrote about liberation, and empowering women. She had a powerful voice on her views of the rights of women to get good education and career opportunities. She pioneered the debate for women’s rights inspiring many of the 19th and the 20th century’s writers and philosophers to fight for women’s rights, as well. She did not only criticize men for not giving women their rights, she also put a blame on women for being voiceless and subservient. Her life and, the surrounding events of her time, accompanied by the strong will of her, had surely affected the way she chose to live her life, and to form her own philosophies.
