In the review of literature, one source is obtained from the SVSU database which describe the benefits of nursing; two additional SVSU database sources will also describe the challenges. In addition, a case study is evaluated, which shows the correlation between the career and the pass/failure of the NCLEX-RN exam. This paper concludes with an analysis of the information gathered, showing why nursing is a field that others should consider as a career.
General Qualifications for becoming a nurse, according to Regina Ranburn, include: “Compassion, caring for others, selflessness, love for humanity, and desire to help others” (1). These qualities are vital to a career in nursing because most fields require direct patient care. Dealing with patients one-on-one every day requires compassion and caring for those who need healing. Selflessness meaning putting someone else’s needs above your own and that is exactly what nursing is all about. People put their trust in you to help them in a way they do not know how to do. Love for humanity and a desire to help others comes from having compassion and selflessness. All of the characteristics listed above go hand-in-hand to have a successful career.
Fall semester of 2016 I completed a career trajectory project in nursing school that prompted me to assess my future career goals deeper than ever before. Following up on that project I had the opportunity to interview a nurse who has taken the career path I hope to go down. My purpose for this interview was to gain further insight into the my choice career path, and see if it truly was something I was interested in or not what I expected. The questions asked were aimed at uncovering perspectives unknown to me. In this paper I will be discussing why I chose the nurse for the interview, the main points of the interview, and my biggest take aways from what I learned.

Everyone has that one nurse that makes your hospital experience good or bad. When going into the nursing field in my opinion, there is always that one nurse that has made an impact on your life even if it is something so small, it helped you decide on your nursing career. I feel like the definition of a good nurse is understanding: someone who can be flexible, someone who has very good patience, and someone who can react with patients in a positive way. I have always had the desire to be a nurse since I was little and this is something I know I can achieve. The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast my values as they relate to nursing and my possible future career and my plans. It’s been my desire, longing for a nursing career since I was in my primary and secondary school. At the age of 12, I began to look after children and baby-sitting then, from there, I gained the understanding of how to deal with children. My goal and desire at that age have been to help people within the Health sector. That is how; I decided to go to college where I am currently doing my Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science), which involves Biology and Chemistry. I chose this pathway because I want to gain the relevant skills and knowledge of my career to be. As someone who wants to become a nurse, I found biology as an important role in the delivery of client car...

Nursing is known to be a very challenging and demanding career, but to have the ability to make a difference to a person's life strikes me as rewarding. It requires a range of skills such as communication skills and experience with kids.
