Mary Kay Letourneau was a 34 year old teacher from Seattle, Washinton who was convicted of second degree rape on a twelve year old boy. As a result of this affair this already mother of four had two childeren with this 12 year old boy. She originally was senteced to spend 90 days in jail and was to take medicine for being bi-polar. She violated parole by again having sexual intercourse with Vili once again. She was senteced to seven and a half years in jail and was recently released from prison. The area of this situation I will be writing about is the incidicent that happend in the marina with Vili and Mary. Both were found in a mini-van by the police late at night , approximatly 0100 am. Vili appeared to be hiding under a sleeping bag and the police asked how old he was. She replied and said he was 18. The police became suspcious after the youth did not have any idenitification amd said he was 14. The police brought the two of them to the station where Vili's mother was called and she ok'd the fact that Mary was watching over VIli. Some questions come of this situation. Was the police response standard protocol? Was their investigation solid? Was the out come fair? And, If I was the commanding officer what orders would I have given to the investigators.
Was the police response standard protocol? Yes, the police initially questioned what a watchman thought was a person or incident. Upon arrival the found what looked like a young boy hinding in a sleeping bag so , they questioned the individuals in the mini-van. Vili who was originally said to be 18 years old could not produce documents to prove his age and then later said he was 14 so they were taken to headquarters because of that issue and other suspcions. After arriving at the station VIli's mother was called because Mary told the police officers that she was his teacher ans was watching him overnight. Vili's mother assured police that her son was under the care of Mary. In this siutation the police had reasonable suspition after the officers asked the age and they gave a conflicting answer along with the absence of identification. The actions of the police to take them to headquarters in nornal in instances when a person cant prove age or identity.
I am currently doing an internship with the local police department. I was had a broad selection of different areas I could work for under the local police department. I ultimately chose to work under a small Innocence Project. This team is with four other students and defense attorneys in the local area to look at other cases that were found guilty which they have been convicted of a crime they did not do. After looking at many different cases, we chose to look at one case in particular, his name is Willie Johnson. Willie was convicted at 18 years-old for raping a 16-year-old girl after a school dance. He was convicted over 15 years ago. Willie told the court that he was trying to break into the victim’s car to get a CD player that was out in the open, which explains why Willies fingerprints were all over the car door. Willie explained he left because there was a large man who was in a dark area. After

On 1997 four men were convicted of the rape and murder of Michelle Basko. The four men were Joe Dick, Daniel Williams, Eric Wilson, and Derek Tice. Detective Robert Ford believed that the four U.S. navy men were all guilty of the crime. One of the victim’s friend claimed that Daniel Williams, was Michelle Basko’s murderer. Based on the information provided by Basko’s friend, Ford suspected that William was guilty. With that, the series of harsh interrogations led by detective Robert Ford began. Detective Ford began his interrogatories with a label that Williams is the suspect. The psychological abuse he used, led Williams to make a false confession. After closing the case, the DNA results did not match the one in the crime scene. Instead of releasing Williams, it was believed that Joe
Mary Musgrove was a very influential woman of her time. Her heritage of both Native American and English blood gave her the perfect advantage for prosperity in the time period in which she lived. She had a great impact on the state of Georgia as an interpreter, a trading post owner, and a tribe member.
A woman was raped at Central Park and was found unconscious. She recovered quickly after the incident but could not recall what happened on that day. On the same day that woman was raped all five teenagers were there but were at the opposite direction of where the rape incident happened. They were brought in by the police to be questioned and were asked about the incident. The police were interrogating the teenagers and yelled at their faces because they were getting frustrated that they were not getting the answers that they wanted to hear from them. The teenagers were getting tired from being questioned for about two days on something they knew nothing about and wanted to just get out of the place. The police told them to say certain things and told them things that they wanted to hear, which led to the teenagers believing that if they said what the police told them to say then they could leave. They ended up confessing to raping the woman on video and paper and that led to their arrest. Though there were no actual evidence proving they were there at the scene, it did not matter because the police just wanted the confessions, which was their goal from the
In the beginning of the story, a mythical monster named Grendel who is attacking King Hrothgar’s mead hall Herot. When Beowulf hears of this tragedy, he volunteers to go and fight the mythical beast. The author wrote, “So Beowulf chose the mightiest men he could find the bravest and the best of the Geats, fourteen In all.” Once Beowulf arrives, he is given a feast and then decides to stay in Herot overnight to confront Grendel. Grendel then arrives and kills one of the Geats before Beowulf can get into the battle. Beowulf then goes hand-to-hand against Grendel and ends up tearing off Grendel’s shoulder. Grendel then retreats to his lair to die. This is only a mere example of why Beowulf is a hero.
In most Greek myths, you hear about the legendary hero that takes beats and monsters down by himself. Theseus, on the other hand, has people trust in him with his abilities that he later uses to aide him in differing situations. One example that shows this is when he becomes king of Eleusis. He starts to change the traditions of the town, and one of these changes is having the Companions, his personal guard, to be more interactive and in charge. This interest that Theseus shows in the Companions piques their interest and makes them start trusting him in more than just their king. Theseus’s loyalty to the Companions is also shown once they attack the stronghold of Sinis. While Xanthos gives the Companions and Theseus a smaller share of the spoils than himself, Theseus “divided all my own share among them” (99). By doing this, the Companions start to trust and rely on him over Xanthos. This loyalty is shown when Xanthos and Theseus fight each other to the death. Theseus ends up going against Xanthos, who has a spear, with only a sword, after he throws his spear. The companions see that Theseus might die, so they throw their spears for Theseus can reach one and kill
Any of these reforms, if they had been done during Hayes’s and Matthews’s cases, could have prevented their wrongful convictions concerning the murder. Between interrogation reform and eyewitness reform, any change in the direction of validating what actually occurred or making sure information was presented in an unbiased manner would have shown great differences in what happened to these two men. These two individuals, wrongly convicted due to two of the six main faults in the process, are now part of 16 exonerated cases from the Innocence project that involved two people accused of a single crime.
The first thing that makes Beowulf an epic hero is his wisdom. In this epic poem Beowulf fight with many characters, that are bigger and stronger than him, but Beowulf wins all these battles through his wisdom. Most of the time Beowulf fights for glory, so he always looks for a battle to fight. That’s how he came to the fight with Grendel, who frightened the whole kingdom of Hrothgar. Many warriors tried to defeat Grendel, but they all failed and eaten my Grendel. When Grendel came to the Heorot to kill the warrior’s, Beowulf tricked and attacked him with his bare hands, knowing that the swords does not work on him (Beowulf 51). First Beowulf learned Grendel’s attacking style and with that he counter attacked Grendel. Beowulf uses his wisdom wisely in every situation he encounters. When Beowulf fights Grendel's mother, first he looked around his surrounding and “he sights a famous old sword of the giants, which he seizes and thrusts at Grendel’s mother, who falls in helpless death throes” (Foster 1). In every battle, Beowulf is overpowered with wisdom, which makes him an epic hero.
Another way that an Anglo-Saxon warrior shows their love of glory is shown br Christopher Garcia: “A hero must be willing to die to achieve glory” (The Anglo-Saxon Hero). With this being said the warriors are to put everything on the line to achieve the ultimate amount of glory. Which is to die for one’s country or kingdom. These are just a few out of many ways Beowulf shows the Anglo-Saxon love of glory.

Throughout all three battle scenes, Beowulf portrays the characteristic of a great warrior. Heroes during the Anglo-Saxon time period were able to handle themselves in battle and accomplish great feats of strength. For example, Beowulf fights Grendel, the terrible fiend, that had been terrorizing the people of Herot for twelve long years. Beowulf is the only man to have accepted the challenge of killing him. When Grendel came to
Jazz music is one of the only musical genres originally developed in the United States. Almost all other forms of music come from other parts of the world, obviously predating the creation of the jazz. This is perhaps why jazz music is one of the most diverse, original, spontaneous, and wild forms of music. Jazz music draws from a rich history of African, Latin American, and European influences. Jazz was created at time in which women in the United States were making great progress in securing equal rights. However, this progressive form of music still held fast to deep seated discrimination against allowing the involvement of women.
