People are not inhumane, savage and evil. The people who kill & destroy are ordinary people, just like anybody else. They are fathers, brothers and sons. They could be doctors, engineers and lawyers. They are your co-workers, and your next door neighbors.
So what goes on in their minds when they act violently?
It is the TEACHING that influences them to act violently & if religion is added into this teaching then it adds fuel to the fire. When their minds are influenced by negative teaching, then they don't think they are harming anyone, rather they think they are obeying God’s commandments. And in doing so, they are assuring themselves a place in Paradise (Heaven).
They think they are doing a duty towards God which is holy. So killing, destroying becomes holy & sacred when religion teaches it to do so. Otherwise God has given man a heart of compassion & love. But, today their evil deed has become righteous & the best deed for God. They are saying

During the past two millenniums several Christians were martyred for the cause of our Lord's Church. Being martyred as a Christian is much different than the terrorists who are inspired by SATAN to CHOOSE a time to be a martyr. Christians never chose the time to be a martyr. But, if a Born Again Christian being in a certain place at a certain time following our Lord happens to become a martyr in that event, that is always the happiest experience in that person's life. Becoming a martyr in this way, is not judgment of Our Father, it is a great blessing of Our Father.

A martyr is a person that defends a principle, even though it means giving up everything that is important to that person (Webster 236). Some martyr's are put in jail for standing up for Jesus Christ or God. Most martyrs are killed because of their beliefs. Martyrs are the strange ones who challenge society with a different way of thinking. They are the rebels and heretics of today (dc Talk 6). For some, standing up for Jesus actually means dying for Him (dc Talk 7). In John 15:13 NIV Jesus says, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." Today some people refer to martyrs as Jesus Freaks. The very nature of Jesus Freaks is to thrust away from the mob mentality, away from the things that society tells us to care about (dc Talk 8).
Surprisingly, the Christian martyrs did not care that they were sentenced to death. They believed that by dying for what they believe, it would only bring them closer to God and the Gates of Heaven. The document states, “For this cause have we devoted our lives, that we might do no such thing as this; this we agreed with you” (para. 18). To the martyrs, nothing was more important than fulfilling God’s duties.
Violence in all of its manifestations is based on an exercise of power. It represents a means to gain power, to maintain power, or as a response to a threat to one's power. As long as a society maintains the legitimacy of social hierarchies, of the right of some people to have power over others, there will be violence. One can either seek to diffuse the concentration of power or to control violence. By its very character, the attempt to control violence is self-defeating. The control will itself become violent.

In addition violence has been considered as being part of human nature and comes from our biological structure of aggression. It is an out let for us to relieve stress levels and some believe that it can be a device of vengeance and a positive mechanism to human survival. For example it is a system for the survival of the fittest and reproduction. Another way that we can look at it on a different spectrum is the way religious beliefs utilise non violent mechanisms that try to diminish the impacts of aggressive behaviour. When we think of religion and violence we do not think to situate them together. This is because “theologically, it can certainly be concluded that all religions have the goal of peace” . People who are outsider of a religious tradition can make many generalisations. In this essay it will discuss why some religious traditions in South East Asia oppose violence. In addition the rejections of violence have shaped and changed religious practices within Jainism, Hinduism and Buddhism. There have also been many generalisations about the above traditions. Moreover I will try and answer why non violence has become a generalisation and how it has impacted India as a whole.
