Everywhere you go, you see thousands of black and white people together in today's society. Many black and white people are married, great friends and even our president is a black man. Before black people were considered equal to whites there were many segregation laws. Around 1954 blacks had to attend their own schools, churches, restaurants and they were assigned toilets and water fountains that they had to use that were separate from the whites. This was a terrible time in America until one of the greatest people in history came along. On April 4, 1968 in Atlanta Georgia, Martin Luther King Jr was born. He grew up in a well raised house with a Baptist preacher as a father. Growing up Martin attended segregated public schools in Georgia. Martin did not agree with the way that he was treated. He fought against racial prejudice, not just because his race suffered, but because he considered racism and segregation to be an affront to God's will. At the age of 15, Martin attended Morehouse College and decided to start a career in ministry just like his father. Martin went through many more colleges and earned his sociology degree and doctorate degree at the age of 25. During college he found the love of his life Coretta Scott and they eventually had four children. After college was over segregation laws start to get worse. African Americans had led many protest and things started to turn.
On March 2, 1995, a woman named Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white man. This became one of the biggest events in history and sparked the protest of African Americans. Martin Luther King Jr was asked to lead the boycott after Rosa was arrested. Martin was arrested, his home was burned, and he was subjected to personal abuse after he boycotted.
