Martin Luther King Jr Informative Speech

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'" (Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.) This says a lot about Mr. King and his character in having an act for helping others for the better. Martin was a social activist, who led the Civil Rights Movement in the United States from the mid 1950s till his assassination in 1968. There is a reason that every third Monday in January we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Martin Luther King Jr. is was one of the hardest workers and most dedicated person in Americas history, and he played an important role in making America what it is today.

Born on January 15, 1929 in little Atlanta, Georgia Martin Luther would become a life changing character. When Martin was growing up he was the middle child of an older sister Christen King Ferris, and a younger brother Alfred Daniel

Williams King. He was raised in Atlanta with his mother Alberta Williams King and father Martin Luther King, Sr.. Martins father was a pastor at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Alberta Williams Martins mother was a local school teacher at the Montgomery elementary school.
At the age of five Martin was enrolled into public schools. If you think your a brainiac wait till you hear about Martin Luther King. He started off school like any other, pre school to elementary school, then middle school. In Martins late elementary to begging middle school years his family began to fight an argue and when he was sick of it, Martin would just go to his grandmothers house, he become closer to her. When Martin was twelve his grandmother died of a heart attack. This crushed him and he even attempted suicide from a second story window. Just imagine how different America would be today if Martin King would have died on that day. When Martin came out of his little mid life christ, he continued on to Brooker T. Washington High School where his future began to fall into place. Martin figured he would help his dad out at the church, and one day take over as the minister at the church. When he got to high school it all changed. Martin skipped the ninth and eleventh grade. And was rolled into Morehouse college at the age of fifteen. When he got to college Martin was popular, and no longer wanted to be like his father. Martin went and studied law and medicine. He went to multiple colleges such as Yale, Edinburgh (in Scotland), and Boston University where he met his wife. MKJ got his PH.D at the age of twenty-five and was valedictorian of his class. Martin believe it or not got a "C" in his public speaking class. Yet still today he is known for his amazing speeches.
You may think you know about Martin but the truth is, I think no one knows the full story of everything Martin went through. He was in constant danger, his family, himself, all African Americans. Matins house has been bomb, he was shot while standing on the balcony of his hotel. There was a two month man hunt for a man by the name of Earl Ray. One hundred cities across the country were searching for him. In 1969 Ray turned himself in and pleaded guilty, he was sent to jail for ninety-nine years in prison. Before he went onto his book signing tour he was stabbed. His mother was shot while playing the organ at church. Martin frequently smoked to relieve him of his everyday stress.
Martin was known for his Civil Rights Movement.

Marin helped many African Americans fight for their civil right, he enforced non violent protests. One of Martins most famously known was the "bus boycott." March 2, 1955 a fifteen year old Claudette Colvin was arrested for sitting in the white area of the bus. Claudette was arrested, when she was arrested. "Claudette was pregnant and law enforcement looked bad in the eyes of sympathetic whites."(Bus Boycott) Also more famously know the story of Rosa Parks. On December 1, 1995 forty-two year old Rosa took the bus home from work and all the seats in the back were already filled, this is wear African American seats were reserved. There was one seat left in the front, Rosa sat there but along came a white man and Rosa would not move. The police were called and arrested Rosa. The next day Rosa was charged with a $10 guilty fee, and a $4 court fee. The night Parks was arrested E.D. Nixon and Martin were planning a boycott. This led to a 368 day boycott. All African Americans walked to and from work for 382 days, and eventually the law was

removed.
On March 9, 1965 Martin led 2,500 marchers black and white to cross the Pettus Bridge, where there was police officers stopping them. King just directed everyone down on their knees, led a prayer, and turned around. But most famously known is Martins 'I Have A Dream' speech. On August 28, 1963 200,000 people white and black gathered around Lincoln Memorial. In this speech Martin emphasized his belief that someday day all men could be brothers.
