Marshawn Lynch’s approach to a more efficient workout is definitely one to take a closer look at. Lynch uses a device during his training called an elevation mask, which constricts your breathing through the mouth and the nose. A few questions arise—what effect does this mask have on ventilation and respiration of the respiratory cycle? Does the device in fact make it seem as if you’re working out in a high elevation setting, such as a mountain?
From personal experience with the elevation mask, I have noticed that as soon as I put the mask on and begin my training, breathing instantly becomes hard for me. I felt like a lot of my focus and attention had to be on my breathing during my workouts. A lot of the time, I had to take the mask off just to focus on normal breathing for a while.

The elevation mask has three different valves that work to let in very little air.
It sits right on your face over the nasal cavity and the mouth. This is what stimulates that high elevation feeling as you’re working out. From the knowledge I have gained, I now know that my respiratory system had to work twice as hard as it usually does, just by using the elevation mask.
Marshawn Lynch explains the relief he feels after taking the mask off. The first time Marshawn tried the mask, he was only able to run one lap around the building. (Sports Illustrated, 2015) The claim that the elevation mask stimulates training at a high elevation isn’t extremely too far fetched. As you reach higher elevations, the oxygen levels deplete. This is essentially what the elevation mask does the minute you put it on and begin your
workout. Pulmonary ventilation, which is the exchange of gases between the lungs and our environment, is restricted by the mask. Since our pulmonary ventilation, the first step in the respiratory cycle, is restricted, a domino effect occurs. Since our lungs aren’t getting enough oxygen from the environment needed for the exertion we are engaging in, our external and internal respiration processes are struggling as well. The lungs are unable to pump sufficient amounts of gases to the blood stream. Normally what would happen is after the gases are pumped into the blood stream, those gases are then sent to bodily tissues. Since the elevation mask is restricting our ability to exchange gases from the pulmonary ventilation process, the rest of the cycle suffers as a result. The mask makes the oxygen percentage you’re using decrease which, as a result, makes your pulse decrease as well. The mask is simply used to help build up your capacity to hold oxygen in your lungs. It is also said that Marshawn Lynch’s overall mental focus has increased after using the elevation mask for just a few weeks (Sports Illustrated, 2015). By restricting the amount of air his lungs receive, pulmonary resistance occurs which conditions the lungs to make his performance stronger. The lungs are forced to work harder with the mask on. When the mask is removed, the stamina of the lungs and his ability to breath under vigorous activity increases. As the body adapts to the mask and the restraints it puts on the lungs and his ability to breath, he learns to take deeper breaths. By taking deeper breaths, he is therefore using oxygen more efficiently. When Lynch wears the mask, and then takes it off, he said he feels winded, and found himself breathing quite hard (Sports Illustrated, 2015). The way he was feeling almost directly correlated with a condition called hypercapnia. Hypercapnia happens when you have elevated carbon dioxide levels in your blood. When you start to notice symptoms of hypercapnia, you’ll notice that your breathing will increase, and your skin will become flushed (Wikipedia, 2015). While conducting the respiratory and ventilation lab, the participant was told to breathe in and out through a tube. The end of the tube was connected to a bag. As he began breathihg through the tube, the participant got red in the face and struggled to breathe. His percentage of oxygen use began to decrease as did his pulse. This demonstrates what the elevation mask does, which can lead to the condition called hypercapnia.
America’s Team Will the real “America’s Team” please stand up? This term is widely used throughout the media when referring to the Dallas Cowboys. “America’s Team” was first coined some 40 years ago while introducing them for a feature film by the legendary sport writer Bob Ryan. In the following years, because of their success and mass media exposure they were a team that America as a nation could identify with ,so the name stuck. The Cowboys since those days has regressed into a very mediocre team who only looks for moral instead of actual Super Bowl victories.
Sports fans look up to athletes and inspire to resemble their favorite athlete. Peyton Manning inspired fans, by revolutionizing the quarterback position. Likewise, Tim Duncan entertained fans, by playing at a consistent level of greatness night in and night out. In addition, Joe Montana was the master of the comeback, leading his team for game-winning touchdowns under the most pressure. All of these amazing Hall of Fame players´ only possess a few of Tom Brady's traits that made him the greatest football player of all time. Thus Brady inspires many people to compete and be the best they can be, he also brought hope to sports fans which made Tom Brady a hero.
In the past few years, the controversy over Native American and other racial sport names or mascots have become an uproar. The main sport teams that are being targeted due to controversial mascots are programs having names dealing with Native Americans. Many teams are well known programs such as the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and the Washington Redskins. The Redskins are receiving the most heat from racial groups. According to Erik Brady of USA Today “The volatility surrounding such names has amped up in the year since Daniel Snyder, owner of Washington's NFL club, told USA TODAY Sports that he'd never change his team's name: ‘NEVER — you can use caps.’” (3). However, professional teams are not the only teams receiving negative remarks,
The inside of the mask shows a man sitting with his legs bent in front of him while his arms are open and stretched to his sides. His facial features consist of sharp cheekbones, a wide triangular nose, a goat-t, a thin mustache, and thick dark eyebrows. The subject's facial hair is made up of black pigment. His eyes are peering up and his thick red lips are in a whistling position with a little tube in its mouth with three strings attached to it- one on both sides and one on the bottom. The strings on his left and right attach from his mouth to his arms. The bottom string attaches to the middle of his legs, just below the knees. It looks as though there is a harness or support cushion of some sort around the figure's neck but this is not clear. Perhaps it functions as a filler so there is not a lot of empty space (www.freespiritgallery.ca).
Previous research used noninvasive ventilation to help those with COPD improve their altered level of consciousness by allowing the alveoli to be ventilated and move the trapped carbon dioxide out of the lungs. When too much carbon dioxide is in the blood, the gas moves through the blood-brain barrier and causes an acidosis within the body, because not enough carbon dioxide is being blown off through ventilation. The BiPAP machine allows positive pressure to enter the lungs, expand all the way to the alveoli, and create the movement of air and blood. Within the study, two different machines were used; a regular BiPAP ventilator and a bilevel positive airway pressure – spontaneous/timed with average volume assured pressure support, or AVAPS. The latter machine uses a setting for a set tidal volume and adjusts based on inspiratory pressure.

On the morning of March 3rd, 1991 an African-American man led police on a high-speed chase through the city of Los Angeles. Approximately eight miles later police swarmed around the car and confronted the driver, who went by the name Rodney King. During the confrontation, officers tortured King until the point he was forced to seek medical care. A case was opened and the police officers were acquitted. This angered many people, specifically Blacks and led to the historical “L.A. Riots’’ , where they felt race had something to do with the case.
Marshawn Terrell Lynch was born April 22, 1986.Marshawn grew up in Oakland, California with three siblings. David Lynch, Devonte Lynch, and his sister Marreesha Lynch. They were all raised by his mother Delisa Lynch. Who once held 200-meter track record at Oakland technical high school the school Marshawn later attended.
The Baltimore Ravens is the first National Football League (NFL) team to step inside Washington D.C.’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. It is quite apparent that this visit has sparked a new respect and understanding for the significance of African-American culture. The players were silent as they passed the casket of a 14-year-old African-American boy which reminded the visitors of the violent history of the country 60 years ago.

“Too much protection can be problematic because masks can cause distractions and limit visibility” (D’Elia). When players want to wear a hat or visor to shield the sun, they can't with the facemask. This is messing with the fielders view and can cause the player to lose the ball in the sun, or just entirely. Facemasks can come in different colors, clear, or can even shield the glare from the sun, but sometimes these different masks make the glare worse. When a player gets the wrong size mask, it can slip and slide and cause discomfort. Also, some players do not like to wear masks because of the simple fact that they affect play. Many fast pitch softball pitchers and infielders stay clear of infield facemasks when possible. Reasons being for affecting play is that they can be uncomfortable, sweat can drip into the eyes when playing, they don't look very good, all sports have risks that come with playing the game, and also players think that college coaches will not scout you because you wear a mask which makes the players feel like they are showing the college coaches that they are scared of the ball if they are wearing a mask. Lastly, many people believe that the decision to wear a protective mask should be left up to parents, players, and coaches. “No one wants to get hurt while playing but injuries will occur every now and then despite whatever precautions are taken” (D’Elia).

Pressure, the weight pushing on something, is a vital part of scuba diving. As a diver sinks deeper into the water, the pressure pushing on the person's lungs pushes harder. This can be very dangerous to a person's safety. While the water is pushing on the outside of the lungs, pressure in the inside of the lungs is pushing out. If this pressure isn't the same as the weight from the water pushing on the lungs, the diver could have breathing problems and possibly die. To equalize these two pressures, modern scuba gear is equipped with a device attached to the air hose called a demand regulator that controls the flow of air getting to the lungs, changing the pressure inside.
According to the company Training Mask, they have done an extensive research and clinical testing at the University of North Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) to modify their old training mask, but did not elaborate or explain the research and testing that they have done. The “2.0” before the product name signifies that the company did modified the mask’s design. They made it lighter and more comfortable to wear than the older version of the training mask. The company claim that the Training Mask 2.0 can help imitate and give an individual the same benefits of high altitude training without the inconvenience of going and training in the mountains. They also claim that the Training Mask 2.0 can improve an individual’s respiratory threshold, increased anaerobic threshold, increased oxygen efficiency, increased energy production, increased mental & physical stamina, and increased mental focus in a short amount of time (Training mask 2.0, 2016). They cited that the patent-pending valves can increase the pulmonary resistance and stretch the lining of the lungs, which would then lead to larger surface area of the lungs and increase in red blood cells and
Wearing a mask covers up all of the flaws and insecurities we try to hide. A mask is just protection to hide feelings and emotions to be someone else. It doesn't just stop there, both poems describe how a mask serves many purposes to the wearer. As T.S. Eliot explains in his poem “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” these ideas are expressed as metaphors comparing his life to his surroundings and asking the reader to take a trip into his bizarre life. Also included in the poem “We Wear The Mask” by Paul Laurence Dunbar we get the sense that wearing a mask only covers up so much. Lyrical expression is shown in both poems that gives the reader the idea that a mask is more than just a facial cover up. Both poems have different themes but covers what wearing a mask truly means. The themes shown in the poems are suffering, appearances, race , and lies. In any case, wearing a mask hides who we truly are, but it is only temporary and doesn't disguise how we truly look or feel.
