Is rap poetry? Are we able to call rappers poets? The real question is what a poet is? A poet is a person who has the gift of poetic thought, imagination, and creation. So yes in the eyes of many rap is poetry and the many different rappers are considered poets in their own fields. One of the most renowned yet controversial rappers is Marshall Mathers or Eminem as many know him. Eminem has gone from an unknown youth on the streets of Detroit’s to a rapper that can jerk tears from anyone, but also make you laugh for days. His words have brought people together, either to love or hate his music. With his emotional lyrics and personal content Marshall has blurred the thin lined that differed rappers and poets.
Like most successful poets and rappers, Marshall started out poor; he was born on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri, but lived in Detroit for a large portion of his life. He grew up fatherless and lived with this mother for most of his life; he switched schools a lot because of constant moving. Marshal was never the popular kid in school; he was the victim of bullying and treated like an outcast at each school he went to. At home he was exposed to his mother’s drug issues and verbal abuse, which all came to the surface through some of his songs. His mother was a subject for his early song, the songs hurt mom for a lot of people, but also cause a lot of problem for marshal’s relationship with her.
The most influential person in Marshals life would have to be his on and off wife and mother to his daughter Kim Scott Mathers, they have had been together before his fame. She like his mother has been mention countless times in his songs, mostly for negative reasons, as a way to vent. Although causing Marshal a lot of pro...

The points Marshall made seemed to flow together, however, it was not in the usual fashion. The transitions from one idea to the next appeared to blend and blur together, as if she tacked on the beginning of one subject to the end of another. From this perspective, it could be described that the speaker did not effortlessly swing coherently from one idea to the next. Despite the different organization of her speech, one thing she did make sure to do was keep eye contact with her audience. She also

Tupac Amaru Shakur was an African-American rapper, poet, and record producer during the 1990’s. In his adolescent years, he attended the Baltimore School for the Arts where he took acting and dance classes, like ballet. He was taught radical politics by his mother, which helped him develop ideas about topics he would later use in his many works. At an early age, Tupac had seen the injustices of the real world. His mother was a former Black Panther activist who turned to substance abuse during Tupac’s childhood. Aside from that, he and his mother also moved many times while they lived together in New York City. While Tupac was in Baltimore, he discovered rap; not long after, he and his mother moved to the West Coast where he joined the rap group

The East Side is a largely black, low-middle class Detroit neighborhood. They were the only white family on their block. After failing the ninth grade for the third time, he finally gave up and dropped out of school. (www.eminem.com/bibliograghy, 1) Marshall has had it rough from the beginning but things only got worst when he and his mother moved to the “black” side of Detroit. There was bound to be some confrontations and obstacles in his path. One of his worst nemeses of high school was a black guy named D’Anglio Bailey, although no one called him that.
In 1999 a new white rapper emerged and blew everyone's’ minds! Eminem was born October 17, 1972, he grew up in a volatile home. He had to move schools two to three times a year and was invariably bullied. When he was nine he got beaten up so crudely he was in a comma for a week. His father abandoned him at six months leaving his mom to take care of young Marshall Bruce Mathers II. He was exposed to rap as a teenager and studied the dictionary to learn creative words to use in his raps. He always enjoyed English class and had a decent grade in it too, but he did fail the rest of his classes. Eminem had to repeat ninth grade three times and eventually dropped out. After he dropped out his only focus was rap battles, he was the only white man competing, and was shown no respect. His song “Rap God” has one thousand five hundred sixty words and was six minutes long. His song “Lose Yourself” was the first rap song to win Number One Song of the Year for the Grammys. Eminem was in The Guinness Book of World Records multiple times. He wrote the song “Lose Yourself” on the set of 8 Mile, he would jot down notes in between takes. A study showed that he has the best vocabulary in the game, out of ninety three artists in over twenty five genres he was found to have the widest vocabulary with eight thousand eight hundred eighteen unique words.
