Mark Twain was born on November 30, 1835, in Florida, Missouri, and his real name was Samuel L. Clemens. He was the sixth child in his big family. His whole family moved to Hannibal where Mark Twain spent his childhood. The town that he lived in was situated on the Mississippi River, which is the reason why Mark Twain liked to use this river to present a symbol in his famous works. Mark Twain kept up his schooling until he was 12 years old when his father died and his big family was lack of incomes. Later he found a job at the Hannibal Courier as an apprentice printer; this paper gave him a meager ration of food, and he also began to write some papers to post to the local newspapers(Mark Twain Biography).
When Mark Twain grew up, he became a licensed pilot on the Mississippi River. Later this career was stopped by the eruption of the Civil War. Mark Twain joined the Confederacy but quited the army couple weeks later. Then Mark Twain went to the great American west where he earned a great reputation for his novels and papers. Unfortunately he became bankrupt later. Finally, Mark Twain got a job as a reporter in Virginia City and he was also continuing his literary career. This story happens in the Mississippi River town of St. Petersburg, Missouri which is also a miniature of the larger American Society. The main protagonist is Tom Sawyer whose parents died when he was young and now he lives with his Aunt Polly and his half-brother. Tom is a clever, passionate boy;he does not like the regulations which are made by school, family, and society, he likes adventures and seeks new things from the outside world.
