Mark Twain’s Life Mark Twain, whose real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens, was born on November 30th, 1835. He was extremely well known for his works of literature as a humorist, journalist, novelist, short story writer, and lecturer. Some of his most famous works of literature include The Prince and the Pauper, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. He was admired for his wit and satire in his work. He died on April 21st, 1910, but his legacy as an American frontier figure and author still remains. Twain was born and raised in Missouri, which is where the settings of most of his famous novels take place. He lived with his two parents and three other siblings - he had three more, six in total, but his other siblings had previously died. Twain’s rose to fame after he wrote and published “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calavaras County”, which brought him national success and attention. From here on out, he began to write letters and literature. His first book was titled The Innocents Abroad. His next publications, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn were instant successes. Both of these novels asserted Twain as an authentic American author. The Prince and the Pauper was not too well received right away, but throughout the years, critics have expanded their views to embrace that specific work of literature. Twain wrote a total of 28 books, along with countless letters and short stories. He will forever hold a legacy for his important contributions to American
