Mark B. McFadden The Rev. Mark B. McFadden was born and reared in Lebanon, VA. He is the fourth child of the late Wayne and Elnor Mae Hoops McFadden. He is a graduate of Lebanon High School. Upon graduation from high school the Rev. McFadden served in the U.S. Army for four years as a Chaplain’s Assistant and in linguistics. After four years in the Army, the Reve. ...9, 1997, Rev. Miles preached his last sermon at HCC. Since our newly selected minister, Rev. Kurt A. Kirchoff, was not scheduled to arrive until mid August, Romi Chaffee - long-time HCC member and ordained UCC minister, provided pastoral care and Sunday sermons for this interim six-week period. Finally the Kirchoff family arrived, and Rev. Kirchoff preached his first sermon at our church on August 17, 1997.
Over a three week period in October 2002 a series of random sniper attacks paralyzed the Washington D.C. area. The shootings happened in in various establishments such as super markets, gas stations, restaurants and near schools turning normal tranquil areas into chaotic murder fields. There were no age group, gender or ethnicity that was safe, Victims were randomly selected and everyone was targeted. After the murderous spree, ten people were declared dead and several others wounded. The perpetrators were finally apprehended while they were sleeping at a resting spot and later identified as forty-one-year-old John Allen Muhammad and his seventeen-year-old Jamaican-American protégé, Lee Boyd Malvo.
While comparing her time, theology and spiritual practice we realize she lived during the time of immense change, similarly we are living on the edge of a challenged modernity. Her spiritual direction allows us to recognize and develop further abilities in our pastoral ministries of caring for one another as participants within the corporate communities as well as within the mission fields.
First, Sweeney provides an overview of American evangelicalism that is brief and balance. This is demonstrated by his broad yet comprehensive writing style and selection of chapter themes. Next, Sweeney’s inclusive approach provides the reader not only with the history of the more famed evangelicals, but also acknowledges the influences Pentecostals, charismatics, women and black leaders of the movement. Additionally, he is not afraid to highlight many of the shortcomings within the movement. In fact, “he confronts the American imperialism and “cultural chauvinism” that often accompanied mission in the nineteenth century (98) as well as the unfortunate embrace of slavery and racism by some evangelicals.” Lastly, chapter four contains a good summary of the development of modern missions movement. To his credit, Sweeney includes within this summary several trailblazing women in the rise of evangelical missions and affirms that women “worked more freely with internationals abroad than they could minister to Americans at home.” Moreover, he discusses criticism concerning “contextualization” and offers a couple of perspectives on the demographic trends of evangelical
John MacArthur is a well-known and sometimes controversial pastor that holds a strong conservative viewpoint of the Scriptures. As a graduate of Talbot Theological Seminary, MacArthur’s ministry has covered a wide spectrum of Christian fields including pastor, author and radio host. MacArthur currently serves as the Pastor of Grace Community Church in Sunny Valley, California. For over 45 years his pastoral ministry at Grace Community Church has given evidence of a deep abiding love for the exposition of the Scriptures. Beyond his role as pastor, MacArthur serves as the president of the Master’s College and Seminary, which functions to train men to work in various areas of Christian ministry. As a successful author, MacArthur continues to write many books ranging from culturally and theological relevant issues to New Testament expositional commentaries and study guides. Macarthur also serves as the lead teacher of Grace to You, an everyday radio and television ministry, which centers on verse by verse exposition of Scripture. MacArthur is not known for shying away from controversial topics that Christianity struggles with. He seeks to use scripture to help modern Christians think through these topics.
In African American Pastoral Care: Revised Edition, Dr. Wimberly spoke about responding to God’s unfolding and continually changing times when dealing with healing and reconciliation. In this revision of his classic book, Dr. Wimberly updated his message by examining current issues in African American pastoral care, counseling, and outreach ministry in the community. Dr. Wimberly reminded us that we need to do more for our members and proposed new pastoral care approaches to the crisis of disconnection. Using his own narrative, he explained and described how pastors and church leaders can claim a new narrative method for reestablishing the African American village. His paradigm for African American pastoral theology is inspiring African Americans.
While at Wheaton, Henry was licensed to preach by the Babylon Baptist Church on Long Island. In 1940, he was called as student pastor of the Humbolt Park Baptist Church in Chicago and was ordained to the ministry there in 1941. Henry also released several small volumes on religious thought and theology during this time. These volumes revealed Henry’s mission of critical reading of contemporary theology and his call for a vigorous conservative offensive.

It’s a known fact that kids aren’t to be trusted, they are young, and foolish, labeled too immature to know better. There are many sides to be considered when dealing with the severity of choosing the correct punishment for teenage offenders. Controversy is shown when a federal judge determines it is “unconstitutional” for a juvenile to be definitively sentenced life in prison. In Correction One’s May 27, 2017 article, “Federal judge tosses out life sentences for DC sniper” written by Matthew Barakat, explains judge’s final call Lee Boyd Malvo and that he was entitled to a new sentence as Malvo was only 17 when he was arrested in 2002. Malvo murdered 10 people and injured over a dozen, but his age and immaturity say it is unethical to waste away life in prison. Many agree that a guaranteed lifetime rotting in a cell is beyond devastating for a young criminal condemned to an empty life of solitude, but 10 lives were stolen, immaturity is not excusable.

According to Buckser (1992), the term “lynching” was derived from a Revolutionary War Virginia militia colonel, Charles Lynch. Lynch, at this time, came up with an “unofficial justice system” that punished suspected criminals and thieves through whippings; this later became known as “Lynch’s law”. He also mentions that during the eighteenth and nineteenth century, writers used a form of public humiliation known as charivari (12). These ridicule- based punishments were typically against people who transgressed the community norm. 765 million Americans struggle with hunger, that is 12.9 percent of our population. 16 million of those are kids. 16 teen-year-old Kylee McCumber has made a big impact on that number. Kylee has helped around 400 children weekly. She has been helping kids since she was 10 years old in the 4th grade, this was in the year 20ll. Kylee McCumber is an activist because of her reaction to hunger, her compassion to help others, and her accomplishments.
This paper is an attempt to do the impossible. In a handful of pages, I will dig into the Bible to build a theology of leadership, look at history to see important influences on the pastoral vocation, and build a personal structure for my call to the pastorate. Fittingly, this paper faces many of the challenges of ministry. The job description is massive in scope, the resources are scant, and the hope for success lies squarely on the work of the Spirit.
