It’s incredibly difficult to get your start in the film industry as a director, it’s even more difficult for women to get work as it is a male dominated industry and profession. Marjane Satrapi is a unique and wonderful director that was able to break into the industry in a way that many people wouldn’t expect. Before he rise to fame as a director, she was and perhaps still is best known for her work as a graphic novelist. Her background in graphic novels has greatly influenced her style as a filmmaker and gave her the opportunity to enter the world of filmmaking with grace and critical acclaim. Her most successful and critically acclaimed work was her graphic novel Persepolis and Persepolis 2, which later became her directorial debut with Persepolis (2007). The story of Persepolis is interesting as it is autobiographical and follows Marjane and her family throughout most of her life, which is important to cover as we discover who Marjane Satrapi is and what has happened in her …show more content…

Marjane would later be sent to live and study in Austria for her high school education. She would later return to Iran to study and earn a master's degree in visual communication from Islamic Azad University, which is located in the capital city of Tehran. She would later move to Paris and meet a comic book artist, David Beauchard who became her mentor for drawing and writing for comic books. Working with Beauchard led to her releasing Persepolis in two parts from 2000-2003, with the english translations coming out between 2003-2004. Her work influenced millions and inspired her to move into animation where she began working directing an adaptation of Persepolis. After the success of her debut film she was able to move on and continue to create more films that fit her storytelling and unique
