To me, marine biology is a subject unlike any other. Studying the nature of marine life means far more than an academic subject studied, it is a passion of mine towards the world's oldest and most complex ecosystem. Growing up on the island of Borneo led me to my fascination with the ocean; it also meant being aware of the pollution that is happening. I first decided that i wanted to study Marine Biology after my first snorkeling trip on the islands off the coast of Sabah. To know that having a degree in Marine Biology can give me the opportunity to develop practical and field work skills in helping protect and conserve the fragile environment is what attracts me the most. After getting licensed for scuba diving, I became more aware of the scale of plastic and …show more content…
While diving on the outer reefs in Borneo I was amazed by the abundance of marine life around me. I also spend any other weekend in Lambir hills rain forest hiking. Nature has always been a big part of my life and I hope to continue building on my experience and knowledge of these interests at university. In the summary, I have an open mind to all opportunities that will be available to me in the future whether it is in research or fieldwork. Going to university has always been a goal of mine to achieve and I am certain that my passion will transfer to my life in university. The reason to why I choose to study in the UK is because of the diversity of students attending university there and to learn more about other cultures. Studying in the UK will also help me master the English language and travel around UK and Europe easily while witnessing different cultures first handedly. Studying in a UK university can offer me world class tuition and state of the art facilities. Besides that, UK's higher education and qualification have an impressive reputation that I hope it can develop my potential while enjoying a full social

I’m applying to SEA Semester, because I love the ocean. It’s been my dream from a young age to learn to sail and live on a ship. I’m from Aroostook County in Northern Maine, which is five hours away from the ocean. Every summer my parents would make sure I got to the ocean at least once, and I’ve romanticized it since I can remember. Since coming to Bowdoin, I’ve always spent my weekends biking and driving to the ocean, because it’s become a place for me to think clearly and escape the fast-paced life of a college student. The ocean has developed into my happy place, which is why I want to study it and understand how humans are impacting it. I want my undergraduate studies to give me the knowledge needed to protect our oceans in the future, and to be able to conduct research to expand our knowledge of the ocean. To be able to live on a tall ship and continue my studies of the ocean is my dream.

...ba diving, I read countless articles about sharks, monitor shark tracking’s and even watch shark films.
There are around 400 diverse shark species and over 15,000 divergent tropical marine fish discovered by man(www.flmnh.ufl.edu). Although, this used to be a man's field, one woman proved to the world that this was her forte. Dr. Eugenie Clark, an American Ichthyologist, explored thousands of feet below the sea to discover and observe numerous shark species, and countless tropical fish. Through her explorations, encounters, and exchanges, Eugenie Clark was able to impact the human knowledge of marine life.

In the last few years, studying abroad has become an increasingly popular choice for higher education among international students (Accessibility Navigation, 2014). An average of 10% of students in universities all across the UK are international students from countries all over the world. (Accessibility Navigation, 2014). Although the experience is different for each individual student, there are many common problems that international students face. Those problems include: culture shock to varying degrees coupled with emotional issues(Bailey, 2005), Language barriers along with other communication problems (Sherry et al, 2009), and academic problems due to a change in school curriculum (Ramachandran, 2011). This essay will expand on the common problems faced by international students in the UK, offer solutions for handling the problems, and making the process of acclimating to a new environment easier for students.
I plan on going to UW La Crosse to get my bachelors in Aquatic Sciences, then following up to get my masters or doctorate in Marine Biology at Texas A&M. Growing up, my mom always called me her little fish, and told people that I was made to be in the water. The ocean has always intrigued me. “The great unknown!” they say, the greatest mass of our whole Earth and yet barley discovered. Not only do I want to find new species and go further than anyone has before, I want to help our planet. The Great Barrier Reef has always been known for being the largest living ecosystem, but now very large sections of the reef have been pronounced dead due to pollution. There are approximately 1.6 million tons of waste enters our ocean every hour, so yearly, a colossal 14 billion tons of trash ends up in our beautiful oceans. These heartbreaking numbers are what made me want to pursue higher education in the field of Marine
It was at a young age that I fell in love with the ocean and the splendor of its biodiversity. It was when I gazed upon the magnificent blue waters of the world that I found my passion. At this young age, I decided that I would pursue a path that involved helping endangered marine organisms. Many conclude that I speak of the more common marine animals, such as dolphins and whales. However, that is not the case. My passion lies with the “Rainforests of the Sea”, the coral reefs.
I was inspired to study abroad in England because the country has such a strong cultural identity. When we think of England, we often think about the stereotypical tea drinkers that eat bangers and mash; however England is much more than that. England stood out to me because I felt I knew so much and so little about it. I realized that I knew about the American perception of England and not the real country. Hence why I decided to study at St. Mary’s University, so I could really understand England as a culture and society. I thought studying in London made the most sense because the city is so culturally diverse and aligns with my interests. London is at epicenter for theater, pop culture, fashion, cinema, and I want to experience all of it.
If you are interested in becoming a marine biologist “you should be concentrated in math and science”(Wonders). Those are the main subjects of the career although you need to be informed in the other subjects.’A marine biologist also need to be clever and creative so that he can dream up experiments to answer his questions” (Szulgit). A marine biologist need to think more then most of the other careers taken by people. “If you are interested in dolphins or other marine mammals, research programs do exist at several universities”(Marine Biologist). This is a big opportunity to the marine biologist people because it increase the number of

Everything I decided to do during and after my sophomore year was and still is to excel in education. To me, it’s all about exposure. The more of the world I see and absorb, the more I can understand why I want to be what I want to be. I want to be a medical doctor to aid people who need to be informed and educated about their health. Future generations rely on the mothers and the mothers rely on doctors who are educated enough. I want to be able to understand our impact on the environment so I can make a difference on how we use our resources and how the future will use their resources. I want to distinguish how human life impacts Earth and vise-versa. Nothing can be achieved without education. The way I see it education never stops, although I plan to accomplish the highest level of education I also plan to exceed that.
Firstly, university students will meet others from a wide variety of backgrounds and broaden their understanding of other cultures. Students who reside in halls will most likely encounter an international student; in 2013/14 they
