Success comes with goals, hard work, and determination. All three aspects are valued to become successful. I am deserving of this bursary because along with maintaining my academics, I am very involved with my community and employed in a part-time job. I recognize my future career goals as I strive to become a marine biologist and work with organizations such as Scouts Canada to help kids understand their role when helping the environment and finally I constantly work on my school involvement to stay active and grow as a team player. Setting goals is a great way to motivate yourself. When first deciding which post-secondary school I wanted to attend, I looked at my main aspiration to become a marine biologist. The distance was not going to phase me as an obstacle, I knew that UNB would prepare me academically to pursue my dream in the best way. My goals as a marine biologist include answering difficult questions about sharks like where sharks give birth and why etc. If these questions are answered everyone would benefit and I hope someday to see these goals through even if I am a student from a small town I believe I can make a massive change for everyone when I complete each goal. …show more content…
Scouts Canada was the main organization I helped during my high school career. I enjoyed volunteering with them because I learned new skills and mindsets along with groups of children from the local community. It was fun with the kids at my side but exciting as well because I knew if I was learning something new the kids were as well which would hopefully transfer to the community. Volunteering with Scouts allowed me to help the community plant trees, sell poppies and hold banquets with everyone together aiming for the same goal: create a better community for the
...e school, such as; Pelotonia, Light the Night for leukemia and lymphoma, Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, etc… For many of these organizations I have volunteered more than once. Volunteering at Light the Night has a story. For my 16th Birthday party, I wanted to have my friends and I volunteer in the day while having fun at night. So I had 7 boys and girls, along with me, volunteer for Light the Night, organized by me. The party was a huge success and a lot of fun. I look forward to organizing more volunteer opportunities for my friends and I.
My first experience that involved contribution to a community was in an organization known as girls as pearls. In this organization we participated in many volunteer activities, both domestic and global such as making dresses for girls in africa or volunteering at the samaritan ministry. Consequently, this early volunteerism experience influenced my involvement in the community as a high school student. I became involved in organizations such as key club, an organization focused in volunteerism. Additionally, I began to tutor middle school students and volunteering at the local church. Many of the volunteer activities that I have participate in involved children and this due to the reason that I want to be able to become a positive guide and role model for children. I want to contribute to their motivation of continuing their education and to reach for goals that they believe they can achieve. As a hispanic american I have been provided the opportunity of experiencing life from two different viewpoints which has provided me with various life lessons that aided in my development in becoming a successful and well- rounded
I have been a Girl Scout for eleven years. When I joined the Girl Scouts in first grade, my parents saw it as a fun way for me to make new friends. While I did make several new friends, I also developed many skills and was exposed to new opportunities. As Girl Scouts, we do much more than sell cookies every February. We also volunteer, gain useful skills and experiences, and educate our community through an organization filled with supportive and empowering young women.
For the last few years, I’ve been involved in Boy Scouts of America. Boy Scouts is very important to me, and has been a huge influence for good on me. Scouting teaches its participance various skills, values, and morals. Some of the knowledge I’ve gained is mostly only useful while camping, but most if it is very use full in everyday life.
This year I have served 74 hours for Learner Leadership Council, 27 hours for National Charity League and 17 hours for New Tech High at Coppell. One of my favorite places to volunteer is at Cornerstone Closet where homeless adults come to get needed items and take showers. We get to help them find clothes, and necessities and spend time talking with them. Another organization that I spend a great deal of time serving in the summertime is Metrocrest. We put together the food backpacks for families through the Backpack Summer Hunger Project. These organizations reach out to other organizations and charities and assist with acts of service. Even on campus I have been able to serve others. Being a NTH@C Tour Ambassador has been an important way for me to give back to my school. I enjoy showing others our learning environment and the importance of what happens each day. By attending clubs on campus is also another way that I feel is a pertinent way to serve alongside others and celebrate their passions. School events such as ‘The Day’ and other school wide bondings also exemplifies service participation. It is a powerful way to show our connection to those around us on a daily
In conclusion, I was fortunate enough to understand many important things in life. One of those things is that we do not always begin at the desired start line, but through effort and strong will we can arrive at the desired finish line, where the outcome of our plans and goals reside. In my pursuit of education, I faced many challenges and hardships, but I always viewed them as temporary setbacks not as a finish line. I am certain that an opportunity to study at the UW would help me reach my finish line.
My dream career would be becoming a Marine Biologist. I traveled a lot when I was younger and still continue to. Which is what started to lead me to wanting to be in this career. Another aspect being put into this is I joined swim at a very young age and have always loved water. One of the final aspects is I love animals, especially marine animals. I have always thought that they were the most in danger, they cannot speak out for themselves or show any actions to stop in. They aren’t easily seen to the public eye and a large number is still undiscovered. So they are easily overlooked and even if they are being mistreated no one can see so most don’t care. So I thought why not find a career that can help them, interacting, collecting data,
I received a letter in the mail this evening informing me I have been selected to attend WYSE this year and I was extremely honored. I actually ran inside my house and jumped onto my mother begging to be allowed to attend. She started reading, only to pause midway through one page, “It’s going to cost me $2000 dollars, Dee, and we don’t have that kind of money.”
Since I knew who I was volunteering with, I was able to enjoy volunteering with them. It also helped me become closer to some of the girls. I also love kids and teaching them new things. In addition, the topic I was teaching about also interests me so it was easy to teach them something I was very familiar with, I also gives a sense of achievement when I am able to successfully teach someone something that they can pass on to the next generation. I loved the feeling I got from volunteering.
I have volunteered at the Salvation Army and have had some wonderful experiences there. For the past years I have been involved in helping children with their homework and I have read books to them. It feels really good when you see the children face expression when they finally get something it is a really good experience. The YMCA is another place I have volunteered, during my volunteering moments at the YMCA I felt like I helped the community so much. During the YMCA we had a chance to volunteer with the children’s hospital to take pictures around the community and write about what it affects us on. This was a great experience because it gave me a chance to speak up not only for me but for other people that probably think the same.
Throughout my life, I have always been volunteering. I started the Girl Scouts program in Kindergarten, and am still currently involved in the program. Simultaneously, I’m in three service groups at my high school, many of which involve visiting
I have 3 career paths that I would possibly be interested in, these career paths consist of Marine Biology, Oceanology, and Marine Archeology. However, AZCIS Only provides information for Marine Biology, limiting my career choices to a singular occupation. I say Marine Biology because I love the ocean, I love the mysteries behind it, and how little of it has been discovered. I love Marine animals, the different species, food chains, and the different lifestyles. Therefore, I want an occupation that would allow me to explore the ocean and study the incredible life forms inside it, being a Marine Biologist allows me to do that.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
while volunteering I can talk first hand to the kids and parents about my program, and assure them it's safe. I’d also be able to help kids who can't go outside. Volunteering will also give me a deeper look into how I’ve helped the kids. Helping them overcome obstacles to me is one of the most amazing feelings in the world. I find great joy in helping children especially, kids who have disabilities and ailments.
In high school I was very involved in student government, therefore this type of volunteering was perfect for me. It also felt good to give advice to the
