I apologize that you disliked Marilyn Monroe’s character “Sugar”. Also, I agree Marilyn Monroe’s role as Sugar has a number of stereotypes. However, Marilyn Monroe and other actresses opened doors for other female actresses. Additionally, I believe in the 1950’s Marilyn Monroe’s feminine role was daring also bold. Moreover, Marilyn Monroe’s archetype often varied in movies in juxtaposition to the actor/actress. Thanks for responding to my post. Therefore I hope you realize despite my admiration for Marilyn Monroe I appreciate your views as well.o bold. Moreover, Marilyn Monroe’s archetype often varied in movies in juxtaposition to the actor/actress. Thanks for responding to my post.
The term “hillbilly” is a stereotype for people who dwell in rural, mountainous areas in the USA. Because a stereotypical expression, “hillbilly” includes images of being violent and backward, many Americans feel offensive when they hear the word.
The death of Marilyn Monroe is one of the most famous, unsolved murders of all time. Her death certificate claims that on the night of August 4th, 1962 Marilyn Monroe killed herself from a drug overdose in her home in Los Angeles, California. Although some might say that the drug overdose is the only possible reason of her passing, other might say that theories such as the CIA killed Marilyn Monroe makes more sense. For example, Marilyn Monroe was allegedly having an affair with both John F. Kennedy and Attorney General Robert Kennedy. The most common theory supports the idea that “the Kennedys killed her (or had her killed) because they feared she would make public their love affairs and other government secrets she was gathering” (History.com
Marilyn Monroe was liked by many, society liked her for the sheer fact that she never portrayed herself as famous, but as a human. She was the epiphany of Hollywoods misguided. She created this noble character that people admired, they also admired her f...
The Representation of Women in Some Like It Hot and Alien 3 This essay will be about how women are and have been represented in films in the past and how they are represented nowadays. I will be looking at the roles and representations of women in 'Some Like It Hot and Alien 3. Some Like It Hot was made in 1958. Marilyn Monroe starts in the comedy as Sugar Cane, a very feminine musician.
After watching the episode of The Beverly Hillbillies, I agree with Dean that the author wants to show the image of the Clampetts as a typical hillbilly stereotype. The movie begins with the image of the family on the old-fashioned and funny that makes the film become humorous. All members in the family express the happiness on their faces when they move to the new house with full facilities. They are hardworking famers who live in the countryside of America, but their land which is located in the oil field, so they have to move the new house at Beverly Hill, California. Therefore, they need to learn many things to adapt with the new environment, for example, they need to learn how to use modern equipment in the new house. They are very surprised
The Hilton family has always been known for their wealth and success in life. As an eldest child of real-estate developer Richard Hilton and socialite Kathy Richards Hilton, Paris Hilton was always in the spotlight throughout her life. She attended exclusive parties and was covered by the gossip press relatively early in age. Whatever she did, wore, ate, and said became a headline of media news and posts. She debuted as a child model and continued her career as an actress, fashion designer, and singer. She is the “star” and “It Girl” to her fans and she very much enjoys media’s endless attention. The media speaks negatively of her and place her in numerous stereotypes. However, Paris Hilton demonstrates confidence and optimism, and continues
Perhaps the most famous 1950’s woman was Marilyn Monroe, who rose to fame in the 1953 classic ‘Gentlemen prefer blondes’. Monroe epitomised the soft curled, blonde look with the immaculate makeup and lovely curves. Her personality given across in her films was also the slightly breathless, need to be looked after by a man. This vulnerability contrasted with her physical looks and made her appear less threatening to other women and also gave men a feeling of wanting to looks after her and keep her
The film Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story is not only a story of an ingenious woman who was undermined by her beauty, but it was also a film that shined a light on the flaws present in our society. It revealed how much influence a society has on someone’s life, it showed how it can build an individual up as easily as it can tear them down. And, even though this is a story of the past, some of the issues that were brought up are still prevalent in our society, such as, gender roles and beauty standards.
Stereotypes have the ability to diminish individuality by labeling a reduced idea onto a group of people. In Whoopi Goldberg’s one-woman show Whoopi Goldberg: Direct From Broadway (1985), Goldberg utilizes stereotypical satire as she personates an endearing little, African American girl who dons a shirt over her head and calls it her long, blond hair. The little girl’s anomalous decision to cover her natural hair sparks from seeing white models on television and noticing that none of them look like her. Immediately, the audience picks up on the stereotype that is the little girl’s innocence and snicker at her nonsensical idea of repudiating her black culture to become white. As the vignette progresses on, the little girl successfully charms
Pretty Woman, 1990s Hollywood movie, embodies many new as well as old values and ideologies. I was surprised when I saw that, the old themes and sexual stereotypes are not completely abandoned, but the old portrayals of gender stereotypes are transmuted.
We daily see many common terms of body type in media like long legs, small waists, flawless skin, and nice clothes represented by actresses or models. The ABC’s episodic introduced to all Americans “Modern Family”, supports this stereotype with the role of the actress named “Gloria.” Gloria Delgado is a sexy Colombian woman that represents a ditzy person, often misusing phrases, mispronouncing worlds and saying whatever is on her mind even though it might come off wrong. The character always acts as unintelligent, but that does not matter to people because she has a good appearance that controls the audience to just laugh at her and not to realize the stereotype the show is giving. People look at her because of her physical appearance, not
Latino women in Hollywood films are often portrayed as stereotypical submissive characters. A submissive female character is usually the nurturing figure in a household - she can be found doing the interior housework, teaching the children in their homes, and doing as she is told, no matter what the task at hand is because she just wants to please the person that they deem as authority. Jennifer Lopez’s character, Marisa Ventura, in Maid in Manhattan can be read as a perpetuation of this common female stereotype; in this film she embodies a lowly and inferior female character in her both in her physical stature and her actions towards her male counterpart, Chris Marshall. By making this female protagonist a Latina Cinderella, being swept off
While watching movies, have you ever noticed that the villains in almost every single Hollywood film are of Middle Eastern or European descent? In a reoccurring theme of Hollywood, the villains in these films are almost always foreigners or people of color. This is a stereotype. On the other side of the spectrum, we often see that the heroes of these films are most often than not white males. This is another stereotype. Within the last few years, we’ve seen actors such as Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, and Zoe Saldana take the lead roles, so it can’t be said that there are no non-white heroes, but there certainly isn’t many. Hollywood action movies, moreover than other genres, are typically loaded with an abundance of stereotypes. The way these movies are composed and structured can tell us a great deal about the views held within the American psyche and who holds the social power. The harsh reality is that the media ultimately sets the tone for societal standards, moralities, and images of our culture. Many consumers of media have never encountered some of the minorities or people of color shown on screen, so they subsequently depend on the media and wholeheartedly believe that the degrading stereotypes represented on the big screen are based on fact and not fiction. Mary Beltran said it best when she stated in her “Fast and Bilingual: Fast & Furious and the Latinization of Racelessness” article, “ultimately, Fast & Furious mobilizes notions of race in contradictory ways. It reinforces Hollywood traditions of white centrism, reinforcing notions of white male master while also dramatizing the figurative borders crossed daily by culturally competent global youth – both Latino and non-Latino” (77). This paper will specifically look...
With an unparalleled radiance that mesmerized the world, Marilyn Monroe was the quintessence of Hollywood glamour. Marilyn Monroe was a nonconformist woman in a conformist era; whose star-image portrayed the ideas of sexuality and morality of her time. The first indication of Monroe’s charisma and of her later scre...
What do you call a brunette standing between two blondes? An Interpreter. Blonde females are portrayed as being always attractive, desirable and sexually available, whilst at the same time making little use of their intelligence. Marilyn Monroe is american model, actress and singer, who was distinguished as a divine photogenic sex idol all her life, she is an excellent example of the ‘dumb blonde’ stereotype. Although Marilyn was not educated she aspired to enhance her intelligence not to prove anything to anyone but for her own self-fulfillment. Despite her dyslexia and bipolar disorder, she had an ambition to learn and enjoyed reading and writing poetry. Marilyn Monroe created the ‘dumb blonde’ stereotype herself, but not as a reflection of her personality, as she was played the role well she was continuously cast for the role, which lead people to believe she is a true dumb blonde. Modern day examples of Marilyn Monroe are alive and well an coming to the television screen or movie theatre near you.
