I am here to inform and ask for a change on the laws surrounding marijuana usage. Marijuana is a drug that is non-addictive, healthy, and can help people with some medical issues; therefore, it should be legalized. Most people are uninformed about the effects marijuana has on a person. Marijuana consists of two major chemicals. The two chemicals are CBD (cannabidiol), and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). CBD is described as “relaxation without intoxication” (business insider), while THC controls brain cells that help you relax, which prevents many medical diseases. Marijuana helps release healthy chemicals in your brain, which includes dopamine and anandamide. These chemicals are the “feel good” chemicals which relieves people’s stresses and worries.
Naturally, marijuana prevents glaucoma. Glaucoma is an eye disease which increases pressure in the eye balls. Marijuana also prevents nausea, which helps for cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy. Marijuana can help anxiety and can act as a medicine for it. Around 18.1% of adults in the United States have anxiety. If marijuana is legalized this could help out those adults who are struggling. You might say that marijuana is a gateway drug, but it is scientifically proven that is not the case. Studies that show people who use marijuana first before trying other drugs is correlation and not causation. People who use harder drugs tend to smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol. Marijuana has not killed a single person from overdosing. This statistic shows that marijuana is a safe drug to use at your choice. The only deaths from marijuana have been from other drugs being mixed in with marijuana. If we make marijuana dispensaries more available and legal in all states, it will reduce the risk by almost 100%. Illegal drug dealers can put unhealthy substances in the marijuana that can affect your health. We need to start off by legalizing marijuana in every state with the plan to open up dispensaries for the public. The huffington post says that “marijuana is less addictive than coffee” which tells the public that they do not need to worry about this drug. Legalizing will reduce the crime rates, make more money for government on taxes, and be safer for the people buying. Marijuana is a drug that has many beneficial effects to the human body. Marijuana is a drug that is non-addictive, healthy, and can help people with many medical issues, therefore, it should be legalized. This change needs to be done quickly because the positive affects will show almost immediately. If marijuana is not legalized, then crime will still be taking place, the government will not make tax dollars from purchases, and people could consume bad chemicals that could be mixed in from the drug dealers. Marijuana needs to be legalized.

Marijuana is the cause of much commotion and debate, as the question of legalization becomes more of an issue. Drugs are a major influential force in countries all over the world today. Legalization is an option that has not had a chance, but really should be given one. Although many people feel that legalizing marijuana would increase the amount of drug use, legalization would benefit for the following reasons: 1)reduction of money spent on law enforcement 2)increase in the countries revenue 3)lessen crime 4)useful in treating certain medical conditions. Cannabis, more commonly known as marijuana, is a plant that people have been using recreationally for years. In fact, people have consumed marijuana since ancient times. Until 1906, the year the United States Congress passed the Pure Food and Drug Act. The debate on whether or not marijuana should be legalized in the United States has really blown up within the last decade. And finally, in 2012, Colorado became the first state to officially legalize marijuana for medicinal and recreational uses. The prohibition of marijuana has gone on for far too long, and it is time for America to change its views.
Marijuana also known as weed is a preparation of leafy material from the Cannabis plant that is smoked. There are different types of Cannabis from the sativa to the indica. A high grade of Marijuana is called sinsemilla. The main psychoactive agent is the delta-9- tetrahydrocannabinol also known as THC. When the cannabinoid particles are smoked, THC is absorbed very fast into the blood and distrusted first to the brain and then emptied into the rest of the body. Within thirty minutes of absorption much has left the brain. Within five to ten minutes the peak mood- altering and cardiovascular effects will occur together.
Marijuana has come to light in recent years for the positive medical qualities. This presentation is regarding the pros and cons of marijuana as a sleep aid. Because of the relative newness of the acceptance of marijuana’s medical quality, the research on marijuana’s link to sleep is relatively limited. Due to the lack of extensive research, I felt the best thing to do for this presentation would be to cover the potential benefits and drawbacks of marijuana on sleep, and talk through each point.
Medically, marijuana has proven to be a productive drug. Studies show marijuana has helped dealing with “pain, muscle spasms, seizure disorders and nausea from cancer chemotherapy.” (Weir) Scientist believes these benefits come from a chemical compound in marijuana called cannabidiol. This chemical is not the active chemical that gives marijuana users the mind-altering effects. With the unce...
THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical responsible for most of marijuana’s psychological effects. It acts much like the cannabinoid chemicals made naturally by the body. Cannabinoid receptors are concentrated in certain areas of the brain associated with thinking, memory, pleasure, coordination, and time perception. THC attaches to these receptors and activates them and affect’s a person’s memory, pleasure, movements, thinking, concentration, coordination, and sensory and time perception. The main benefit is the pleasure it brings. Not only is it enormously relaxing, but can greatly enhance the pleasure of sensory activities, such as eating, listening to music, and having sex.

Should Marijuana Be Legalized? In society today, many people look for a feeling of freedom. Many people go on vacation and spend money. The most common escape for people is drugs. Our American society is facing a tremendous drug problem. In order to eradicate the drug problem, a public debate is going on to find some solutions to this drug dilemma. It has become a highly controversial issue whether drugs such as marijuana should be legalized or not. Some people advocate this issue and believe that legalization is the only solution left for the nation while others oppose because it will increase the number of drug users and drug related crimes. To the AIDS or cancer patient, marijuana is the plant that fights nausea and appetite loss. To the nutritionist, its seed is second only to the soybean in nutritional value and is a source of cooking oil and vitamins. To the paper or cloth manufacturer, it is the plant that provided much of our paper and clothing for hundreds of years and produces four times more fiber per acre than trees. To the environmentalist, it is the plant that could greatly slow deforestation, restore robbed nutrients by other crops, and help prevent erosion. Preliminary findings show the drug may prove effective against glaucoma and asthma, and control such side nausea in cancer treatment. I concretely believe that marijuana should be legalized in the United States, primarily for the use of medicinal purposes. In technical or for the average American, marijuana, it is used only for recreational purposes. I think marijuana is a plant that could save many lives if it was made legal. My goal is to reverse prejudices, relieve ignorance, and inform people of the known and potential therapeutic uses of this remarkable plant.
