Marijuana has come to light in recent years for the positive medical qualities. This presentation is regarding the pros and cons of marijuana as a sleep aid. Because of the relative newness of the acceptance of marijuana’s medical quality, the research on marijuana’s link to sleep is relatively limited. Due to the lack of extensive research, I felt the best thing to do for this presentation would be to cover the potential benefits and drawbacks of marijuana on sleep, and talk through each point.
I’m going to introduce the speech by touching on how 60 million Americans struggle getting to sleep at night. I will then introduce the topic of medical marijuana and lead it into marijuana as a sleep. Next I will talk about the potential benefits of
The first will be an image displaying the chemical makeup of THC. The image will be used to introduce THC in the speech. The other visual is a graph displaying what keeps people up, a graph I got from a sleep survey by Sleepio. I plan on using Microsoft Powerpoint to display these visuals as well as any other important information. Another piece of technology that I will be using is Adobe Photoshop assist in making my visuals fit the overall design of my presentation. 2. Some claim Marijuana is a viable option for those with problems sleeping.
a. Many use Marijuana as a means to relax and get to sleep at night.
b. While the research on Marijuana’s abilities as a sleep aid are limited, the logic behind it working is that THC, one of the primary cannabinoids in marijuana, is a sedative in small doses.
c. The other primary cannabinoid in marijuana, CBD, helps greatly in lessening THC’s effects.
d. A light dose of marijuana and a calm surrounding may be just the thing for the many people looking for relief from sleep issues.
3. Arguments can be made that Marijuana will not benefit people who struggle to fall asleep.
a. As many users of cannabis will tell you, the drug has different effects on different users. Because of that, cannabis may not be the best sleep aid for people who are more susceptible to THC’s stimulant or psychedelic effects.
