When asked about who is a leader that I have come across through my life, the person that comes to mind is my older sister, Mariam. My sister has been my teacher, counsellor, role model, and friend. For me, she has become a source of inspiration, and a constant reminder of what leading by example means. When discussing an effective leader, my sister has demonstrated many of these aspects. For instance, she was the first child in my household to receive a car, get a university degree, gain multiple medals in track and field, leave the house on her own, and paid off enormous amounts of debt all on her own still while helping my parents financially with my large family of 8. With this, she has embodied independence, determination, perseverance, …show more content…
She would always remind me the importance of my studies and to forever live up to my parent’s expectations. But as naïve as I was, I would still leave my homework to the last option resulting in my marks to dwindle significantly. Although as time passed, I found myself realising the importance of education and the benefits it can put upon your life. This was all due to my sister, as I watched her profoundly investing her time into her studies making sure she got the best marks possible. Even when bombarded with other task and responsibilities such as taking care of my siblings and working long hours to pay for school she always found time to study, putting her education first. This resulted in her to graduate in one of the top universities in Canada, Carleton University. This example of my sister was an eye opener for me seeing how if she is compatible with doing it why can’t I. She would regularly call me, telling me to do my best in my school work and be the best person I can be. She only leads by example, showing that if you want to obtain something you must work for it even if you have hardships along the …show more content…
She maintains this kind because she is an individual who prefers to work alone on a task at her own deliberate pace. She tends to be quite realistic, always using facts, details, and applying her personal past experiences to come up with practical solutions to problems. She can also be sensitive and cooperative from time to time, but she always finds ways to bases her opinions on her values and how others will be affected by them. She also likes to keep her options open trying all sorts of different things even ones others might find odd. However, due to her spontaneous personality, she would always use kinesthetic and visual teaching styles. When using kinesthetic, she would tell me how she use to take on situations when she was my age using her past experiences. She would say to me this so I can think of her decisions and make up the best possible outcome for myself. When using visual, she would always demonstrate the giving problem to me for example when helping me with my homework she would always break up the question for me showing me her process from start to the beginning, so I have a better
For example, she had to go through father dying, She always has her own way of doing things and will never do anything that she does not want to do. She will say whatever comes to mind, even if it is offensive or rude. For example, she would bicker back and forth with John Reid telling him horrible things and not feel any sympathy for his feelings:“I hate you Mr.Reid. And I’ll find a way of getting back at you!”.
She always wanted to be the center of attention, she was prejudiced and believed things should stay the same, and she was very selfish. While she thinks she’s above everyone else, she feels that the world revolves around her.
I have had both the pleasure and discomfort of being led by good and bad leaders. The way I simply define leadership is by being able to do as you say. Lead from the front and Set the example.
The personality theories that do seem to be evident in G.M life is the psychodynamic theory of Social Learning and also the Sigmund Freud personality theories by Bandura. When talking about the social theory, it talks about the role that is played by an individuals surrounding, and how it will influence the individual. I would say that G.M is very ambitious person as she is very determined to go the extra mile at work to complete all tasks. Also, the Social Learning Theory is a psychodynamic theory that seems to be in G.M life. G.M used to be a teller and she has taught her brother how to save money. Another theory that can describe G.M is the implicit theory of personality. Implicit theory describes the patterns and biases particularly with G.M that she utilizes when she first develops an impression towards others around her. When G.M meets someone who she is not familiar with, G.M will express her feelings as if she knows who the person is. Another theory that can describe G.M personality is the Freud’s theory that can explain the human personality that consists of many different factors such as sex and food and the influence that G.M has had during her early childhood. The last theory is the Allport’s Personality Theory, which emphasis the uniqueness that G.M has and also the internal process of motivations that she has that influences her behavior. The behavior that influences her is the attitudes, habit and the skills that she forms on a daily basis. G.M has shaped her personality that she will treat anyone if that is co workers, family, friends and even strangers the right way with respect as she understands that everyone s human and that everyone should be treated the same, equally. G.M wisdom it to be able to mentor others in a way that everyone is given a chance to be able to express their feelings. G.M is a
What is a leader? A leader is someone who takes command and leads an organization or group to success. Anyone can be a leader but in order to become a great leader you have to have to possess certain characteristics. I will be using Odysseus from the Odyssey isas an example of a leader who has suitable characteristics. You also have to know what harmful characteristics a leader may possess to determine if they are good leaders or not.
I was raised in an encouraging household where both of my parents greatly valued education. Although they were high school graduates, neither could afford to attend college; a combination of family and financial woes ultimately halted their path. As a result, my parents frequently reminded me that getting a good education meant better opportunities for my future. To my parents, that seemed to be the overarching goal: a better life for me than the one they had. My parents wanted me to excel and supported me financially and emotionally of which the former was something their parents were not able to provide. Their desire to facilitate a change in my destiny is one of many essential events that contributed to my world view.
Leaders do not just appear out of thin air and automatically start making great things happen in the world. A leader must learn from prior leaders or role models that they are surrounded by that they look up to. Not everyone can be a leader, only some people have the correct characteristics it takes to lead others in the right direction. Those who do great things, for example volunteering at a homeless shelter, are not leaders. Many people mistake a “great person” as being a leader, which is completely incorrect (Kouzes and Posner, p. 3). While playing an active role in your community is a positive thing it does not make someone a leader of that community. All leaders have a group of people they have inspiration too and that is a good way of determining who your personal leaders are. My mother, brother, and grandfather are my leaders because I have always looked up to them and tried to mimic some of the great things that I have seen them do. My mother has always been an independent women with goals and an action plan to accomplish those set goals. Stephen, my elder brother, is outgoing and tends to have a leveled head when it comes to evaluating stressful situations. My grandfather is the most caring person I know and he is amazing at keeping situations under control in order to please everyone. These are all the qualities I want to combine into my own leadership style. I know I am not a efficient leader of these actions yet, but I plan on growing into this as I more on into my career, fulfill my set goals, and adjust to the curve-balls that life throws at me.
” By this quote it shows that she is more of the kind of person that has to have a logic behind of everything before it’s done. The stereotype that would fit her would be the wallflower type because of her lack of being sociable.
Leadership can be defined in many ways, but one thing all leaders have in common is determination to get a task done. Although leaders may carry out this action in many different ways they all do what needs to be done in order to reach their goal. Florence Nightingale was willing to gather a group of women and pick up and leave her home to tend to the wounded soldiers of the Crimean War.
Leadership can be shown through any person in any type of situation. In a classroom discussion, on the playing field, or in public a sign of a leader is evident. A person is born a leader. Certain humans know what to do when the time calls for it. Many people in positions can be entitled a leader such as basketball players. Even a famous movie star can be given this title. These people are not true leaders. True leaders are the belaboring teachers and the intellectual speakers. These are the people who show that leadership is an action, not a position.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
Parental involvement in a student’s learning career can make the difference between a C student and an A student. This is not a very controversial idea. However, factors outside of the parents control often make it harder for them to become involved. Today I am writing to you; the parents of my students. I will be asking all of you to take an active role in your young one’s education. I understand that long work hours make it difficult to set aside extra time. But, it must be noted that any extra time you can make will be a huge difference.
One leader that I admire is my mother. She has taught me to do everything to the best of my ability, work hard, and be resilient. When my parents were in the process of getting a divorce, my mom went through many difficult times. Nevertheless, she always stayed strong and did a terrific job of taking care of my little brother and I. When I was eleven years old, my mom introduced me to cycling. Since then she has completed three century rides which are one-hundred mile bike rides. After she finished her first century ride, I was amazed at the amount of adversity she went through. She had been chased by three dogs, gone through twenty mile per hour winds, and still managed to complete an unimaginable feat. She inspired me to complete the Tour De Gruene, a sixty-five mile bike ride in the hill country. When I was fifty feet away from the finish line, I had a moment to think that this wouldn’t be possible without my mother. She is the perfect example of a leader who brings people up and always stays positive.
When I think of someone who is a great leader I automatically think about current and previous managers I have had over the years, and honestly I cannot say that any of them are the definition of a great leader. So after I looked up many different definitions of a leader all of them basically defined a leader in the same way, someone who leads people. So, a leader does not typically have to be a manager it could be a teacher or a parent. That is when I realize that a great leader has always been right in front of me teaching me great values, and that is my mother.
We were responsible for managing our homework and schedules. We were not nagged into studying, and did not rely on their reminders to do our work. This was not a burden for me, but a freedom. They encouraged us to put every effort we could into our work, but if we didn’t we were the ones who would bear the consequences. We were punished for never “encouraged” to do well with money or treats. My mother and father emphasized the personal responsibility and consequences of education, instead of using material items as incentives. Because I felt responsible for my education, I wanted to do the best possible. I knew my efforts in school reflected on me personally, and I wanted to do well. I knew that if I could not get A’s in my classes because of a difficulty understanding or learning material, or for other similar reasons, it was fine, but if I only did not get A’s because I did not put effort into my work, it was my fault, my responsibility, and my regret I had to deal with. This understanding and outlook has helped me to do well in school, and motivated me to be a determined, hardworking
