The Trip to Earth Once the children released Margot from the closet, the unspeakable happened. It was as if she couldn’t control herself. The only thing that she was doing was twitching, and when it finally seemed like she was going to stop, she dropped to the ground. It seemed like hours until she finally stood up. Even though she finally stood, she wasn’t her normal self. The other children drew back in fright. Suddenly, Margot began to speak, but not in her normal voice. “Hello, if you are watching this then our plan has worked. My team and I have been planning this for decades now. I am Vanessa Smith, the leader of my group. Young Margot, here, is the chosen one. You see, she was the only one who remembered, she has the power, so she is …show more content…
the sacrifice. You survived through all of this rain, now you will survive through the snow. You might of thought that the rain was bad, but the worst is yet to come. Prepare.” Suddenly, Margot ended her speech and dropped.
No one in the whole classroom knew what to do. Because William felt guilty, he walked up to see if she was okay, but the results made everyone shudder. Laying on her face was a note, it said “look at the sky.” Her skin was pale, and her eyes were rolled back. Her blood ran cold, and she was definitely not her normal self. She was...dead. William dropped to his knees and took a slow and long breath. He couldn’t believe his eyes as he rubbed them trying to make the tragic sight change. Once he eventually realized that there was nothing for him to do, he turned his head to show his classmates of what has become of Margot, but when he turned around, he saw something even …show more content…
crazier. Right in front of him was standing the ground and a never-ending white blanket. He sprinted outside to see everything up close. White drops of coldness fell from the sky. He felt them fall onto him, and he didn’t know whether to be confused, excited, or scared. No houses of their parents were present, the only thing present was a classroom, kids, and snow. No one knew where the teacher was or why she was gone for so long. The only thing they knew was that they had to complete something, but they didn’t know what. A screech interrupted their thought. The sound made everyone in the room turn with fright. Margot was standing, again behind the window, even though she wasn’t breathing. She began to speak in the previous lady’s voice.
She spoke, “I’m glad you questioned it. Yes, I can hear your thoughts, but that’s not important. You will have to make it back to Earth, where you were born, without being caught. You’re real families are on Earth, and the people here are just people on my team trying to figure out if you are cut out for this. So, find a way back to Earth, and don’t trust anyone. You have today only, so good luck.” As fast as a bullet, Margot dropped to the ground. No one spoke a sound, and you could hear a pin drop. All twenty students looked at each other, then the snow, as tears dripped down their
faces. All of the children walked out into the sun not knowing what to do next. Tears streamed from their faces when they realized that everything they ever cared about was gone. That was until they heard something or someone walk to them in the distance. Slowly, as they turned their heads, they saw what the noise belonged to. Their own, old parents that mysteriously vanished, are all now charging at them. The faces of the parents dripped with blood and dirt, and they were screeching like a group of chimpanzees. The students didn’t know what to do, so they just ran and ran like their lives depended on it. A few younger ones tripped over rocks, and ice so they were demolished by their “parents.” No one knew what to do, except run. After what seemed like hours they finally reached something. The “parents” were gone, and they were near this weird tube. Since William was the oldest in the group because he was in fourth grade four times, he stepped forward to see what was in the tube. With the first step, William was being consumed by the hole. He went down the hole as fast as your dad eats on Thanksgiving. A few kids screamed, and a few called down to see if he was okay. “Come down here guys! There is food, blankets, and these weird comfy chairs.” William announced. One by one, the kids jumped down the hole waiting to see what’s ahead. There were buckets of m&ms, containers of marshmallows, hamburgers, and a huge ham dinner! After what seemed like ten seconds everything was devoured. Following the feast, the children grew tired. As a result of being tired, they walked to the chairs, half asleep. There was one chair for each kid, only fifteen in all because some children were captured or trampled during the chase. No one really questioned who brought everything there, but no one really cared. After about five minutes of resting on the chair, something began to happen. A bright blue seat belt came out of the cushions and buckled around the kids’ waists. Their chair began to spin and suddenly shot up. A huge hole formed in the roof, so they could get through, and the sight in front of them blew their minds. What laid in front of them was a land of playing children, water, and the greenest grass ever seen. Out of the bushes, a lady came out and smiled. “Congrats, you made it!” She stated happily.
In the story it says, “About how it was like a lemon, it was, and how hot . . . I think the sun is a flower, That blooms for just one hour.” This connects back to my idea that outcasts are sometimes the solution to society’s problems. Due to this quote, Margot’s statement about the sun is what makes her an outsider in the eyes of society. Later in the passage, it is revealed that Margot’s statement about the sun was correct and solved the problem of what the children think the sun resembles.
Margot goes to school with classmates that resent her. They hate her for having seen the sun, something they wanted so badly. This jealousy led to an overwhelming hatred that they were reminded of any time they saw her. Her classmates let their hatred take over and they locked her in a closet as revenge for the pain she had caused them all. But unlike Wendy and Peter from The Veldt, Margot was affected negatively from her classmateś actions.
The characterization that Ray Bradbury gave Margot was shy. She was shy because she never talked in school. For example, in the story it said ‘’well don’t wait around here.’cried the boy savagely “you won’t see nothing” her lips moved. “nothing” he cried. When the boy talked to her she didn’t say anything because she was too shy. The only thing she was confident about, is talking about the sun. She knows for sure that it is going to come, even when everyone else doesn’t think so. Margot is also very unlucky. She has been waiting a long time to be able to see the sun again, but unfortunately she was stuck in a closet and didn’t get to see the sun.
...difference that Anne and Margot have. This affects Anne because this dominant feeling to being more close to her dad she has hurt her mother. She doesn’t do this intentionally and is trying to avoid hurting her mother. When her mother is hurt Anne is also hurt and she wants to prevent this as much as she possibly can.
There are many examples of the kids acting with bad judgement towards Margot, subsequently alienating her. The first time this shows up is when one of the boys shoves Margot not once but twice because she didn't immediately respond to him. Another example is when all of the Venus school
As the sun began to hide behind the clouds and began to rain, Margot felt the rain to drip down her face. As she stood in the rain, her classmates then came to give her the flowers that they had got for them.
“I still recall… going into the large, darkened parlor to see my brother and finding the casket, mirrors and pictures all draped in white, and my father seated by his side, pale and immovable. As he took no notice of me, after standing a long while, I climbed upon his knee, when he mechanically put his arm about me and with my head resting against his beating heart we both sat in silence, he thinking of the wreck of all his hopes in the loss of a dear son, and I wondered what could be said or done to fill the void in his breast. At length, he heaved a deep sign and said: “Oh, my daughter, I wish you were a
Hazel's reaction was not unnatural. The sight with which he was confronted would invoke both fear and embarrassment within most ten-year-olds. Not only was the body nude, but it was inside a casket as well. The author parallels this vulgar d...
All of Margot’s classmates were all extremely angry and jealous of her, they treated her very poorly. This was because Margot had last seen the sun at an older age than her classmates had, she was four years old, and everyone else her age was all two years old the last time they saw it and none of them had any memory of it. When she described the sun her classmates did not like that at all so they got very mean and angry, they said she was lying and didn’t remember it. A young boy in the class said it was a lie that the sun was coming out that day, Margot said it was not a lie. Then they locked her in a closet before their teacher arrived. And this was all because they were jealous, so they
Race is a prevalent concept in Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novel, A Princess of Mars. The two principal Martian races—Green and Red—are characterized by drastically different beliefs, abilities, and social organizations. Although differences in their ways of life can be misconstrued to suggest the presence of a racial hierarchy, Burroughs makes no specific delineations about one race being superior over another, thereby reinforcing the idea that the equally created races are simply divided by their respective cultures.
I looked around at everyone in the room and saw the sorrow in their eyes. My eyes first fell on my grandmother, usually the beacon of strength in our family. My grandmother looked as if she had been crying for a very long period of time. Her face looked more wrinkled than before underneath the wild, white hair atop her head. The face of this once youthful person now looked like a grape that had been dried in the sun to become a raisin. Her hair looked like it had not been brushed since the previous day as if created from high wispy clouds on a bright sunny day.
Margot had the taunting motive of greed and fame in the murder of her husband. Margot and Francis are public figures. “This columnist had reported them on the verge at least three times in the past and they had been. Margot was too beautiful for Macomber to divorce her and Macomber had too much ...
Running through the hospital’s long white halls, he thought that his mom was going to die. The paramedics were right in front of him, but it felt as if they were a mile away. Reaching his hand out, he began to holler: PLEASE STOP! PLEASE the words bristled from his mouth. He fell onto his knees, in front of him the white floor had droplets of blood that came out of his mother. Time passes, the boy lying on the floor, motionless, Just looking at the flickering light above. Footsteps approached, the boy remained motionless--not caring who it was. I’ve found the boy, over. Excellent nurse, bring him to O.R. #3. Gotcha.
The kids would bully Margot in many ways. In the text “Immigrants”, many families migrated although it was not easy. The migrants had to take a test before migrating. If one would fail the test they were forced to return to their homeland. Also many of the migrant’s names were changed.
The story starts off with these children bullying Margot out of jealousy of how she was able to remember and picture the sun, and because she was quiet and continued to allow it to happen. For instance, “when the class sang songs about happiness and life and games her lips barely moved. Only when they sang about the sun and the summer did her lips move as she watched the drenched windows.” It’s clear how this quote shows that her memory of the sun was
