Thank you for another great week and for supporting the assessment for getting students on the myON system before we leave for the Mardi Gras break. I know that it has been one more thing to add to an all ready full plate, but you all have handled it with such grace. Please see my schedule attached for this week. Some times are if needed as I will try to give all of my extra time to assist with getting students finished testing with myON. It takes a lot of hands for our younger students to go through the process on the computer. We have already heard some positive feedback about students using the program. Also, I have been in classes where students are on the program during independent reading and all but one seemed to really like
the program. Some teachers have used it in a variety of ways in their classes; projecting a book for a whole class activity, small group activity, and independent reading. Marsha and I visited the Killona Community Center Thursday and the director shared that she all ready has students from LES coming in and going straight to the computers to get on the program. She was very excited to learn about the program and will support students at the center. Mr. Pethe’ approved funding to add the National Geographic books for all schools this week. I will work with Toni to get the order in and the titles in our library. Students should be excited about the new titles and this allows more resources for our teachers with science/social studies. I will keep you posted as to when the titles will become available so you can inform your teachers.
How often does one actually consider where a product originates or under what conditions it was produced? While out shopping a consumers main focus is on obtaining the item needed or wanted not selecting merchandise based on the “made in” tag. It is common knowledge that many products are imported from other countries. However, little thought is given to the substandard conditions that workers endure to eke out a living to maintain a poverty stricken existence. In Mardi Gras: Made in China director David Redmon demonstrates the effect globalization and capitalism have on the lives of the owner and workers of a bead factory in China while contrasting the revelry of partygoers in New Orleans. Underpaid, overworked staff toil and live in an inhuman environment, exploited by a boss who demands much for little compensation while profiting greatly, to support themselves and their families.
Spring Awakening, my first and final play. Shelley Elman the director of the play did not live up to my expectations. It was hard for me to understand what was going on throughout the play, and where exactly it was taken place at. There were also many technical difficulties with the sound that took my attention from the stage. This was my first play I have gone to, and it was not a good experience. I went on a Friday and was seated in the middle of the auditorium, and would definitely not recommend seeing this play with your mother as I did. The auditorium was not a full house, but there was still quite a bit of people. Everyone in the audience reacted to specific scenes in the play that were uncomfortable including me and my mother. Spring Awakening was definitely a play that got you thinking, but is not something I would go see for fun. From the start of the play to the end was extremely awkward for me. A lot of the content in this play were topics that are common, yet not many individuals like to talk about. The entirety of the play was interesting, but did not show me anything spectacular. Spring Awakening was a jumbled mess that needed a lot of help.
So thank you judge Ball, Vanessa, Sharon, Susan, Dan, the rest of the panel, my peers, and whoever else I’ve missed. You guys gave me the opportunity to live. And though the sun sets on this chapter of my journey and the dawn rises on the next one I will always be eternally grateful and indebted to you all.
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile, the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
Our lives are made up of many good and bad moments. Sometimes life can be complicated. It can start before were ready and continues even when we are still trying to figure who we are and what we want, but even those moments are worth living because there are many more important moments filled with happiness, laughter, and love. However some people spend their life with fears and don’t learn to enjoy the important moments of their lives. The book Daytripper explains the life a man, by the name Brás de Olivas. Every chapter points out an important moment in Brás life such, as the day he met his wife Ana, the birth of his son Miguel, and the day he wrote his first novel. Even though Brás has many wonderful moments in his life, in chapter one and
This week I was better prepared then last week. I was able to post all of my discussions and respond by the due dates posted. Can’t believe that we are halfway through the term already. I’m looking forward to next week. I have even gotten started on paper 2 early. Have a Happy Easter!
I wanted to say thank you for the hug and the kiss. I needed it! This past year has been an emotional roller-coaster, making it difficult to keep a clear mind. And your brotherly embrace came at a time when I was teetering with the thought is the Army the place where I am called to serve. I know you warned me about drinking the Kool-Aid, but somehow I drank a few cups, okay maybe a gallon. And Based on the evaluation of the others of what makes a great officer, I became upset that as cadets we were all seen as equals, except for those who were generationalist Salvationist. I started to think how can my experience and education be devalued, compared to others (it was and oblivious sign of pride on my part).
It is my hope that you had an awesome week. Your post was very interesting to me, especially the fact about the Native and the people that lives alone the border that has the belief of not wanting vaccinations, to prevent an epidemic. According to the CDC "experts aren't sure exactly why, but reasons that these populations are at high risk of flu complications could include social and economic factors that often result in reduced access to health care and crowded living conditions. This was very eye opening to me , could it be that some do not trust medical staff or just the lack of effective communication? Great post, good luck luck on the midterms exams .
Good afternoon, let me just start by saying that the kindness, support, friendship, and love extended to me and my family during this difficult time has really touched my heart- we are sincerely appreciative!
Areas of improvement mainly focus on the lack of traditions present in the school and the lack of ceremonies. Both of these problems may be due WCA’s relative youth as well as the high turnover rate in teachers and administration. With high turnover, very few traditions have been established and this lack is clearly felt. The few traditions that have been started are not continued and new traditions are started instead. Therefore, students and teachers are not emotionally invested in the traditions.
As I reflect on how quickly we have moved through our last days of school, I do so reminiscent of how fast the past six years have flown by! It is with pleasure that I take this opportunity to write you and thank you, for your support in what has proven to be another busy, and successful school year. Thank you to all for your partnership, and sharing the gift of your hopes, dreams and aspirations, cleverly disguised as children!
The program works with more than 100 schools in seven states. The program is geared toward students from low-income families. The statistics for children’s literacy in the United States are astonishing. “In 2011, just thirty-four percent of the nation’s fourth graders in public school could read proficiently” (National Center for Education Statistics, 2011). The program itself has had exponential success.
Now I would like to take the time to thank everyone who has helped me get this far. First of all, thank you to all the teachers. None of us would be here without you always pushing our academic abilities to the fullest. Jessica Parker a.k.a. my partner in crime as Mr. Tri would refer to us. You made everyday coming to school worthwhile. Hillary Laswell, who would leave third period to go steal flowers from horticulture and give them to Mrs. Granillo with me. My brother Jeramie who always said, "If anyone is mean to you, I'll take care of it." My Mom, thank you for always believing in me and putting up with me when I was a real jerk.
