In the video titled "Malcolm X, Do You Hate All White People?" (1963) Malcolm is asked if he hates all White people and he responds talking about how the question isn’t fair because his beliefs state love your own kind. The White man took people from Africa and sold them like property and then they are treated as second class citizens with minimal rights. He thinks it is unfair to be asked if African Americans hate the White man with how they are treated. After the interview the video shows him go to a police station where he states that earlier a man was punched in the mouth and all he was doing was selling papers and he thinks that it is okay to fight back because it could be dangerous for a Black man if he followed Martin Luther King’s
The End of White World Supremacy by Malcolm X is a blueprint for African Americans, to becoming more confident and powerful citizens in America. It disconnects Negroes from pre taught practices they have learned from White America, in hopes of converting them to the Nation of Islam, and becoming one with Allah. Malcolm was born into a Christian family, but after his father was ran over by white supremacist and separated from his mother in addition to being incarcerated for ten-years he eventually became Muslim.
Alex Haley, the author of The Autobiography of Malcolm X, uses structure, style, and content in the first 11 chapters to describe his purpose and to contribute to the beauty and power of the text. Not every chapter specializes in structure, style, and content. One Chapter may have a unique style, but another may have a unique structure to support the author’s purpose. Each chapter helps contribute to the beauty and power of the text in that they each have something important to help support the purpose which is to show how Malcolm became what we know him to be. Content is very important in many of these chapters because they provide reasons and examples of how Malcolm X became radical and a very aggressive protestor.
When comparing and contrasting movies and books, the majority of the time the book presents more of a detailed atmosphere and illustration of events. However, in this case I think the book, "Autobiography of Malcolm X” and the movie, “Malcolm X” quoin side with one another.
The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told by Alex Haley is about a man who changed the history of America. Malcolm (Little) X preached what he believed about racism, discrimination, and segregation. He went through many changes in his fight for equality. The three transformations that really changed the way Malcolm thought and preached where his transformation in prison, his transformation into the Islamic religion (following Elijah Muhammad), and the biggest transformation of all, his pilgrimage to Mecca. In all of Malcolm actions, teachings and transformations we learn different points of view and we get a good look at different aspects of events. The life of Malcolm (Little) X as told in his autobiography should be read by all.
The chapter seventeen, of the autobiography of Malcolm X, is about Malcolm X’s experiences during his visit to Mecca to perform hajj He was a Muslim minister, a leader in Elijah Muhammad’s Nation of Islam. In the beginning of this chapter, Malcolm X starts off by telling the readers that all Muslims must attempt the pilgrimage, or hajj, to Mecca at least once, "if humanly able".
Malcolm Little was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of his birth, Malcolm's father was a Baptist Minister. His mom was a writer of Marcus Garvey. Before he was born, his father had 3 children with his previous marriage and 3 before him with his mom.
The Autobiography of Malcolm X follows the life of an international figure, Malcolm X. During Malcolm’s life he faces the hard facts that no matter how smart and intelligent he is, he will never be held above even the least intelligent white. Blacks are allowed success but only to a certain point. That point declares that Blacks can never infringe on the success of Whites, and when they do so, their ideas, aspirations, and intelligence will be shot down into the racial stereotypes this society has be known to understand.
In “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” the author skillfully structures each chapter to correspond with Malcolm’s development and implants a sense of purpose throughout each event.
“I’m for the truth, no matter who tells it. I’m for justice, no matter who it is for or against. I’m a human being, first and foremost, and as such I’m for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole” (X). This quote by Malcolm X represented his attitude towards equality and self-empowerment. The true Malcolm X was a passionate human rights activist as well as an extremely outspoken man during the fifties and sixties. X encouraged millions of African Americans to fight for what they believed in and to take pride in their ethnicity. X persuaded a multitude of African Americans that they are supreme and should not be degraded for their skin color. ...ica. Anna Hartwell states, “Christianity occupies a central place in Malcolm’s account of white supremacy, in both its global and domestic incarnations” (Hartwell). She also states, “Against this Christian tainted legacy, Malcolm X counterpoises Islam as “the true religion of the black man”. Islamic universalism proffered for him an alternative to U.S. citizenship, which had constantly failed to live up to its promises for African Americans” (Hartwell). Malcolm X had an understandable dislike of the system of white supremacy because it is a system that thrives from people being on the bottom who have higher percentages of taxes taken out paychecks even though they make far less than everyone else. The thing about white supremacy is that it affects in a negative way poor people of all colors, but black people suffer the most for obvious reasons. This was the message
“ as i know now that some white people are truly sincere, that some truly are capable of being brotherly towards a black man.” (Malcolm X, pg 369). Malcolm, when had said this, began to question his own past where he would preach of the white man being the so called “devil” which whom justify their superiority by the laws and the bible however, the integration at Mecca came with great respect where everyone is free and that there were no rules violating one 's own rights. “ The problem here in America is that we meet such a small minority of individuals so-called ‘good’, or ‘brotherly’ white people.” (Malcolm X, pg 369). Said by Malcolm that the people in America were a disgrace and that they have been driven by racism unlike the people in Mecca where they all embraces each other under one rule. “but brotherhood between all men, of all nationalities and complexions, who were there.” (Malcolm X, pg 369). As Malcolm has demonstrated that the love and respect was with everyone who believed in the true religion of Islam and that he wanted the people in America to find an end to this racism that everyone had and that every human in America should treat each other with the same respect as he saw in Mecca. “ ‘Yes, I have been convinced that some American whites do want to cure the rampant racism which is on path to destroying this country!” (Malcolm X, pg 369). As Malcolm has manifested that the racism is the obstacle that America is facing and keeping America away from having somewhat of a total respect of all nationalities and an end of the violence during the civil rights
Malcolm X: His very name is a stab to the beliefs of the white supremacists of his time"X" symbolizing "the rejection of slave-names' and the absence of an inherited African name to take its place." Similarly, in his speech "The Ballot or the Bullet", Malcolm X denounces the actions of the white population, without any attempts to appeal to them; his approach to the civil rights issue is in complete opposition to the tactics of other civil rights leaders of his time, such as Martin Luther King, Jr. Rather than trying to integrate the black community into the white, he focuses on the complete separation of them: he doesn't want the blacks to integrate into the white hotels, he wants blacks to own the hotels. He believed that the black population had to break the psychological, cultural, economic, and political dependency on their oppressors. By using tactical phrasing of his sentences that connects to his audience emotionally, Malcolm X attacks the tendency of African-Americans to identify with White America, and insists they identify instead with Africans, their ancestors; thus, he promotes his purpose: to instill a feeling of self-respect and self-help in his fellow African-Americans, which in turn is the stepping stone to the liberation of the Black people.
In Malcom’s speech Malcom brings up a riot in New York City caused by police brutality. Malcom justifies the riots of his peers by saying in his speech “but they gave the impression of hoodlum’s vagrants and criminals, but this is wrong. The landlord is white, the merchant is white, and in fact the entire economy of the Black community is white.” Malcolm uses this ideology to justify the rioters breaking windows and causing trouble in their own community because they are not hurting themselves; however they are hurting the white population by destroying the white’s property. Since the time of the New York riots many other riots have occurred based on the same ideology, some of which have occurred within the last few years. In 2014 the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri sparked riots within the town of Ferguson and unrest throughout the nation. In this specific case it was found that the officer did not kill Brown based on race rather out of self-defense, regardless of the findings by the investigation the people of Ferguson continued to riot. In a more recent incident on April 18th 2015 in Baltimore the riots ensued because a man by the name of Freddie Gray was killed by police days earlier. In this instance the investigation found the killing to have been a murder; never the less, riots still ensued in Baltimore for multiple days protesting police
Malcolm X says, “ We will work with anybody, anywhere, at anytime, who is genuinely interested in tackling the problem head-on, nonviolently as long as the enemy is nonviolent, but violent when the enemy is violent.” Malcolm X supports the idea of treating others the same way they treat us. We will cooperate with anyone who will support equality for all and have persistency in fixing conflicts such as, minorities not being able to do the same things whites do. Malcolm X clearly depicts that we need to be treated properly. We will work with anyone to fight for equality for everyone. The big idea that is brought to light on this topic that Malcolm X clearly recognizes is that we need to think big numbers and not small. We shouldn't just stay quiet about this injustice treatment by the same kind of ours,
Malcolm raised awareness for the mistreatment and oppression of the African Americans in the USA ghettos and influenced the New York Race riots or Harlem riots in 1964 as well as the Watts riots that raged for six days in 1965. In a street meeting in Harlem, Malcolm responded to criticism in a speech for not adopting nonviolence, instead offering militancy, “If we react to white racism with a violent reaction, to me that’s not Black racism. If you come to put a rope around my neck, and I hang you for it, to me that’s not racism. Yours is racism….My reaction is the reaction of a human being reacting to defend and protect himself.” He then confronts the public with the reality that, “They want you to be nonviolent here, but they want you to be very violent in South Vietnam.” Malcolm’s speeches played a vital role in the Civil Rights Movement for it effectively brought attention to the mistreatment of African Americans, encouraging them to stand up for freedom and human rights. He revealed and demonstrated that African Americans were just as worthy and equal, even superior to the Anglo-Saxons.
