In continuation, Clinton similarly uses this technique to represent women. Hillary Clinton claims that "As an American, I want to speak for those women in my country, women who are raising children on minimum wage... women whose lives are threatened by violence, including violence in their own homes" (Clinton 13). In consideration of the preceding, she is establishing trust, and she would like to bring attention to the fact that women across the globe are having problems such as being banned from voting. People started to open their ears and their hearts. Her overall purpose is to show that there is a gap between men and women that cannot be overlooked and sidestepped for any longer. Women don't only deserve the right to vote, but they deserve the same rights as men. Applying logos, juxtaposition, and strong use of diction to her speech, she connects to her audience and reveals to them the reasons why what she is saying is crucial to the country.
Writer, political activist, and feminist Malala Yousafzai once said, “One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen, can change the world.” Education is not a luxury, but rather a basis for survival; sadly, thirty-one million females ages five through eleven are not in a primary school and seventeen million of these females are expected to never enroll in school (Education). A Taliban leader said that if girls did not stop going to school within a month, there would be repercussions. Instead of capitulating, this proclamation only made Yousafzai more passionate and courageous. She continued to attend school, despite the numerous threats and causes for fear. As an education activist, she was in more danger than most of her classmates, so it was not safe for her to walk anywhere, instead she had to take a car or bus. One day, while aboard a school bus with her classmates and friends, two men entered asking which girl was named Malala. The other girls looked at Yousafzai which unintentionally gave away her location. The men shot 15 year old Yousafzai in a defining moment in history. This not only had consequences for her and her family, but it also had consequences for the citizens of Pakistan and people living around the world. She emphasized how education, health care, jobs, and political rights were not equal between genders and that the world needed to change. Clinton gave a very convincing speech because of her use of rhetorical techniques. The use of pathos, ethos, logos, and anaphora created a powerful, persuasive argument against the way women were treated around the world. Clintons main goal of this speech was to appeal to the audience and convince them that this is unequal treatment is an immense matter and needs to be addressed all over the world.
Clinton repeats the words “If women” followed by “will” (Clinton), this gives the audience a reason to accept her propositions. Good outcomes come with good actions. When she concluded her speech, Hillary kept using the repetition of the words dignity, respect, family and children. Clinton’s credibility is not questioned when she says she has been working in the case, “Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women, children, and families” (Clinton) this is the way she knows about women and their necessities, “I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about the challenges facing women in my country and around the world” (Clinton). Her goal is definite, “To strengthen families and societies by empowering women to take greater control over their own destinies”( Clinton). This change will not only affect women, but everyone who surrounds them.
