Being a hero requires an individual to possess bravery, kindness, and selflessness. These characteristics are noble qualities people admire. Heros achieve incredible tasks that other people cannot imagine. Hero is a word to describe person who is determined, selfless, and courageous, and this word can also be used to describe Malala Yousafzai. Malala lived a pretty typical childhood until she was about ten years old when the Taliban came to power. Malala was born in rural Pakistan in a place called Swat Valley on July, 12, 1997. When Malala was really young Swat Valley used to be very touristy and was known for their summer festivals. Her father founded a all girls school that Malala attended until the accident. Malala spoke out against the Taliban only at age fifteen. On one certain day the Talbain stopped Malala's school bus to a halt. They asked numerous times who Malala was until they figured it out and sadly shoot her in the head. Malala was rushed to a hospital in Birmingham, England that specializes in brain injuries. They described her as a miracle because she wasn't expected to live based on her serious injury. Although she survived the left side of her face is still partially paralyzed as well as being slightly deaf in her left ear. The Taliban said they are still out to get her so she still lives in Birmingham for this reason. In 2014 Malala won the nobel peace prize. When her teacher told her she just could not believe it. According to Nicholas Kristof’s article in the New York Times, Malala recalled, “‘You usually get a bit scared if your head teacher comes, because you think you are being caught doing something. But she told me: I need to tell you something. You have won the Nobel Peace Prize’” (Kristof). Any individual can be a hero if he/she is willing to make sacrifices and be selfless towards others.
