Being a hero requires an individual to possess bravery, kindness, and selflessness. These characteristics are noble qualities people admire. Heros achieve incredible tasks that other people cannot imagine. Hero is a word to describe person who is determined, selfless, and courageous, and this word can also be used to describe Malala Yousafzai. Malala lived a pretty typical childhood until she was about ten years old when the Taliban came to power. Malala was born in rural Pakistan in a place called Swat Valley on July, 12, 1997. When Malala was really young Swat Valley used to be very touristy and was known for their summer festivals. Her father founded a all girls school that Malala attended until the accident. They described her as a miracle because she wasn't expected to live based on her serious injury. The Taliban said they are still out to get her so she still lives in Birmingham for this reason. In 2014 Malala won the nobel peace prize. When her teacher told her she just could not believe it. According to Nicholas Kristof’s article in the New York Times, Malala recalled, “‘You usually get a bit scared if your head teacher comes, because you think you are being caught doing something. But she told me: I need to tell you something. You have won the Nobel Peace Prize’” (Kristof). Any individual can be a hero if he/she is willing to make sacrifices and be selfless towards others. She knew that by doing this she was taking a risk, but for her, the risk was worth it if she could get girls to have an education. She was able to go back to school when We survived.

It is controversial whether it was luck, fate, or God that saved Malala that day yet one thing was certain, Malala Yousafzai had escaped death and was on her way to recovery (McAllester, 1). Malala recovered but was left disfigured from the bullet wound in her head but still continued her studies in Birmingham (Leiby, 1). One would think that Malala would fear ever speaking for women's education again but almost immediately after her recovery, Malala continued her pursuits and efforts for women's education (Alter, 1). As a result of her being shot, Malala's name and support globally skyrocketed and the Malala fund was established. This fund allows people to support and donate money to the establishment of women's educations. Famous celebrities, such as Angelina Jolie support and donate to the Malala fund, displaying the effect and recognition that Malala's efforts have reached.
A hero is a man/woman of distinguished courage or ability who has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal person. I chose Officer Moira Smith as my hero because she has shown . She was employed with the NYPD for 13 years (Police Officer Moira Smith). Throughout her entire career, she has shown extreme courage and has risked her life to save others countless amount of times.
A hero is a person who is admired because of who they are. They do not have to possess physical strength and power. The strength and power of a hero is in the will to endure, to overcome to the point they inspire and encourage. They don't have to be active. A passive hero speaks abundance when it comes to the essence of a hero. A hero does not have to be famous nor possess abundance of money. A hero makes due with what they have and their status comes by way of being a leader and motivating others to make a positive change in life. Growing up, Malala’s father was a school teacher in the SWAT valley. This helped introduce Malala to the problem of girls education. Many schools for girls in her village were blown up by the Taliban, and girls were too afraid to go to school. This caused Malala to start a blog writing against the Taliban, and especially for girls’ education. Malala states, “ I was writing from the privacy of my bedroom, using a secret identity, but thanks to the internet, the story of what was happening in Swat was there for the whole world to see”(77). Malala showed immense bravery when she began writing out for what was right. Consequently, the Taliban gave her and her family death threats. In I Am Malala, Malala claims, “Let them kill me. I will die for what I believe in” (119). Coming close to death, Malala was shot on her sixteenth birthday in point-blank range by a Taliban. Miraculously, she survived, and she still speaks out for the right to education today. Malala shows us what a person can accomplish with courage in the face of danger. She claims, “This is my dream. Education for every boy, and every girl in the world” (193). Malala stands for what she believes in, and uses courage in times of peril to benefit girls all over the
