Introduction Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Soccer is played in every country on earth, and for many of them, it's their number one sport. The sport's beast leagues are traditionally in European countries such as England, Spain, Italy and Germany. Some are even considered to be in Latin American countries such as Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina. The United States and Canada are not traditionally known for their high level leagues, however, Major League Soccer is quickly changing that. Major League Soccer started off as a small, poor league, but has recently exploded in growth and quality. The recent explosion is something that many North American soccer fans should take note of, because Major League Soccer is growing rapidly.
Major League Soccer had a rocky and slow start, then slow and steady growth, and has recently exploded in quality and popularity. Body Major League Soccer (MLS) was founded on December 17, 1993, but wasn't officially launched until the season in 1996. MLS's first season featured ten teams, the Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew, D.C. United, Dallas Burn, Kansas City Wizards, Los Angeles Galaxy, New England Revolution, NY/NJ MetroStars, San Jose Clash, and Tampa Bay Mutiny. Because of the excitement and anticipation built from the recent 1994 World Cup hosted in the a United States, attendance the first year of MLS was an impressive 17,406. However, despite it's high attendance in the first year, MLS was plagued by many glaring issues. The first was that many of the original ten MLS teams played in a stadium that was owned by an NFL team. These stadiums were not built for soccer, and could seat two to three times each team's average attendance. The second was that Major League Soccer adapted some very controversial rules in order to appeal to Americans. One was the rule that no games ended in draws, but each game would be decided by a hockey-style shoutout if tied at the end of regulation. Another was that the clock counted down the time, not count up the time, and was not controlled by the referee. All of these issues were compounded by the fact that Major League Soccer's quality of play was too subpar. The United States' 1998 World Cup team mostly consisted of MLS players, which was eliminated in the group stages of the tournament after losing all three group games. This just showed Major League Soccer how much it had to improve. Major League Soccer's struggles continued

Soccer differs in Spain and in America when it comes to attendances and passion for the sport, play style, and the way their players are shaped into professions. The United States is said to play a hybrid form of soccer compared to hispanic countries (Parrish). American soccer athletes are typically taught to emphasize conditioning and possession. Secondly, Americans and Hispanics’ passion for the sport are extremely different from one another. The people in Hispanic countries live for soccer, as they are devoted, passionate, and loyal to the teams. Contrarily in America, football, basketball, and baseball trump soccer making it only the fourth most attended and watched event. No matter how the sport is played or how many people attend the events, soccer is well liked in both the United States and Hispanic
Soccer is played in over 200 countries over the world, making it the most popular sport. Over one billion fans watch the World Cup Soccer on television, which is played every four years. Soccer players run an average of six miles during every game. The United States and Canada are the only two countries that call it soccer. The first soccer games may have originated in China. The U.S has more official soccer players than any other nation in the world, almost 18 million. The first women’s soccer team, called the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA), made its first debut in 2001.
Soccer is still the world?s most beloved sport, and will continue to be the number one sport for generations to come. However, North America is never bound to join this band wagon because we simply find the sport dull. The fake injuries, scoreless games, and long game lengths disappoint the majority of North America, whom would much rather watch other exciting sports. Because of lacking a long-time tradition, excitement during matches, and good opportunities for big time television networks to broadcast the games, the real football fails to succeed as the superior sport in North America. Paying $250 million dollars to David Beckham won?t do any good in promoting soccer across North America. ?Football? will continue to be less than a second thought, so long as we have these other terrific sports at hand.
In the United States, major league professional soccer has attracted little interest from the fans. Either indoor or outdoor proved to be successful, even with stars coming from Europe and Latin America. American Soccer League was the longest running professional league in the United States soccer history, going from 1921 to 1984. The North American Soccer League only existed until 1985. Some of the worlds' greatest players competed in this league, such as Michael Platani and Giorgio Chinaglia.
It was a bright, August day, with a temperature to match. At least 85°, sun outside was at its peak, with not a cloud to be seen for miles. Such a day is almost unheard of in southern Germany, where the weather tends to be milder year round. It was the perfect day to begin the new season, as well as my first match. I had played many games before this day – nine years’ worth in fact. However, they had all been in the United States, where football is the king of sports. Although the atmosphere was similar, there were distinct, yet almost intangible differences. Many devoted soccer fans do exist in the United States, but the aura at many matches seems to be rather lackluster. Many of those present appear to be disinterested, and it is rarer to see a full venue than in Europe. The set up and division of the sport alone set itself apart from the US. Schools do not have sports teams, only clubs and cities do. Most of the players had been with the same coach and team members since they...
...nged other soccer leagues in Europe as well the struggling NFL. The ASL’s stars would eventually lead the United States to a third-place finish in the very first soccer World Cup in 1930. Soccer almost became a major sport in the USA. But, just before the 1930 World Cup, disaster struck. The ASL clashed with the USFA (United States Football Association) because the ASL wanted to use rules that were never used before in soccer. The ASL was eventually brought to an end in 1933. Although this was a big tragedy for American soccer, it has started to show signs of life again. Soccer has started to gain popularity again, with top players from around the world playing in America’s MLS (Major League Soccer), and many fans cheering on MLS teams and the USA national soccer team. If this continues, then, maybe one day, American soccer will return to its illustrious golden age.
It may not seem like it because football is most popular in North America but soccer is the most popular sport in the world. My perspective is that if there were more soccer stadiums, more federations, and more soccer associations in the United States it might be more popular than football is in North America.

The A-league has been the predominant source of European football in Australia for around 11 years. The A-League first consisted of eight teams from all around Australia and one from New Zealand. Since then we have seen two teems break through the ranks and make the league more competitive.
