Gandhi Quotes
Woman is the companion of man, gifted with equal mental capacities.
She has the right to participate in the minutest details in the
activities of man, and she has an equal right of freedom and liberty
with him.
Hatred ever kills, love never dies such is the vast difference between
the two. What is obtained by love is retained for all time. What is
obtained by hatred proves a burden in reality for it increases hatred.
Fear of death makes us devoid both of valour and religion. For want of
valour is want of religious faith.
There are times when you have to obey a call which is the highest of
all, i.e. the voice of conscience even though such obedience may cost
many a bitter tear, and even more, separation from friends, from
family, from the state to which you may belong, from all that you have
held as dear as life itself. For this obedience is the law of our
being.
Insistence on truth can come into play when one party practises
untruth or injustice. Only then can love be tested. True friendship is
put to the test only when one party disregards the obligation of
friendship.
The test of friendship is assistance in adversity, and that too,
unconditional assistance. Co-operation which needs consideration is a
commercial contract and not friendship. Conditional co-operation is
like adulterated cement which does not bind.
It may be long before the law of love will be recognised in
international affairs. The machineries of government stand between and
hide the hearts of one people from those of another.

passion. It can be taken only wi...

My work will be finished if I succeed in carrying conviction to the
human family, that every man or woman, however weak in body, is the
guardian of his or her self-respect and liberty, and that this defence
prevails, though the world be against the individual resister.
Confession of errors is like a broom which sweeps away the dirt and
leaves the surface brighter and clearer. I feel stronger for
confession.
I worship God as Truth only. I have not yet found Him, but I am
seeking after Him. I am prepared to sacrifice the things dearest to me
in pursuit of this quest. Even if the sacrifice demanded my very life,
I hope I may be prepared to give it.
We do not need to proselytise either by our speech or by our writing.
We can only do so really with our lives. Let our lives be open books
for all to study.
In the novel The Immoral Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, the author tells the miraculous story of one woman’s amazing contribution to science. Henrietta Lacks unknowingly provides scientists with a biopsy capable of reproducing cells at a tremendusly fast pace. The story of Henrietta Lacks demonstrates how an individual’s rights can be effortlessly breached when it involves medical science and research. Although her cells have contributed to science in many miraculous ways, there is little known about the woman whose body they derived from. Skloot is a very gifted author whose essential writing technique divides the story into three parts so that she, Henrietta
“A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer.”-Ralph Waldo Emerson. That quote is my favorite because it shows you that everyone is the same ,but there is some people that stand out more than others like my hero Fernando Valenzuela.
The refusal of the call takes place when the hero is unsure of whether they are capable of achieving the task presented to them. “Often in actual life, and not infrequently in the myths and popular tales, we encounter the dull case of the call unanswered; for it is always possible to turn the ear to other interests. Refusal of the summons converts the adventure into its negative.” (Campbell 49) After receiving the call to adventure, the hero is often unsure whether or not to accept it. They know they desperately need/want to accomplish the task, but they initially refuse due to lack of confidence or willingness. Max, who initially refused to join Sharkboy and Lavagirl, as he was convinced they were nothing but a dream. (Rodriguez) Most often, after turning down the call, the hero becomes unsure of their decision to stay within their comfort zone. This step also occured in Sleeping Freshmen when Scott refused to join the newspaper (Lubar
In Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, cruelty is a frequent theme and different acts of cruelty are committed almost every chapter. Victor Frankenstein abandoned his creation because of its grotesque face and destroyed any chance if the monster getting a mate, and the monster kills everyone Frankenstein loves out of spite. In Frankenstein, the different acts of cruelty that are imposed onto Frankenstein and his creation help reveal their true character
P. 1: "I teach kings the history of their ancestors, so that the lives of the ancients might serve them as an example, for the world is old, but the future springs from the past."
In the short story The Devil and Tom Walker, written by Washington Irving, the protagonist Tom Walker, is characterized as being a negative man. This is demonstrated through Tom Walker being characterized as being meager, outspoken, fearless, greedy, stubborn, and unloving.
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight edited and translated by James Winny is a poem about a knight, Sir Gawain, from King Arthur’s court. In the very beginning Sir Gawain volunteers to take King Arthur’s place upon the Green Knights arrival when he declares that one knight must agree to receive a blow by his axe after having the chance to give a blow to him. Sir Gawain ends up chopping off the Green Knights head and is then declared to meet the Green Knight in one year to accept a blow from the Green Knight and his axe. When the year comes Sir Gawain sets off to find the Green Knight at the green chapel, which where he will receive the blow. On Sir Gawain’s ventures
The call of conscience is continuous and it “summons” people to the challenge of assuming the ethical responsibility of affirming their freedom through resolute choice. For instance, people can structure and live their existence in a meaningful and moral way (Hyde, 2006, p. 39). Call of conscience is a driving force that pushes people to do what is morally right not only for them, but for others as well. Furthermore, call of conscience is a call of Being, “the call of Being demands courage from those who remain open to it and, in doing so, stand ready to acknowledge how their ways of thinking and acting may not be as authentic and respectful as they could possibly be” (Hyde, 2006, p. 51). A call of conscience persuades someone to do the right thing no matter what, even if a person helping someone else has the potential of having negative percussions for doing
Throughout the book The Good Earth written by Pearl S. Buck, it shows the evolvement of the main character Wang Lung and how owning or not owning land in the 1920s is affected by peasants in China. It also shows the struggles of a peasant’s life, going through poverty and what happens when wealth enters their lives. Owning land as a peasant is an important aspect of their living style, simply because they live off of what they are able to grow that season. They depend on their land for resources to provide for themselves and family; and also selling crops or trading crops in order to make money. The peasants of China exemplify how important their crops and land are to them throughout the whole book by showing love and compassion for them; but,

“Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one’s definition of your life, but define yourself” (Harvey Fierstein). This quote has various different meanings and ways to perceive it. But, the most important meaning of this quote is to live your life in only the way that will make you happiest, and don’t ever let anyone stop you. Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, Amelia Earhart and Dr. Jennifer Welter never let anyone stand in the way and followed their dreams, becoming some very influential females in society.
Quote #1: “ ‘Listen, Sam, if it was nature, nobody wouldn’t have tuh look out for babies touchin’ stoves, would they? ‘Cause dey just naturally wouldn’t touch it. But dey sho will. So it’s caution.’ ‘Naw it ain’t, it’s nature, cause nature makes caution. It’s de strongest thing dat God ever made, now. Fact is it’s de onliest thing God every made. He made nature and nature made everything else.’ ” (Hurston 64-65)
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi- 2 October 1869 - 30 January 194 was the pre-eminent political and spiritual leader of India during the Indian independence movement. Ever wonder what to do when you are in a situation that most people react in violence? Ever think that violence is the only way out? Mahatma Gandhi is a very inspirational role model who not only reacted to violence without violence but overcame it and (for the most part) succeeded in life without violence.
