Macklemore Inspiration Essay
Macklemore’s rise to fame, along with co-artist Ryan Lewis, has no doubt been well-earned. Many of his songs are more about the meaning than the attention, and his original style is one that continues to stamp Macklemore’s signature in the music industry. Macklemore did not just jump out of the sky into fame, however; he had the helping lift of inspiration from Tupac and Digital Underground to boost him over into stardom in the pop industry.
Macklemore did not just grow up straight into fame, for he had to carve out his future the hard way, and because of this past his music is what it is today. In the past Macklemore struggled to overcome a long battle with drugs that was seldom won (Levionson 4). It was fight that he chose even though he could’ve given up, but this part of his past with drug abuse helped him grow as a musician as well as a person. In addition to drug abuse, Macklemore grew up in a family where money was never in abundance making it even harder for him to stay on the right path.
Tupac, one of Macklemore’s biggest inspirations, had a s...

Rap music has given me personally something to look up to. Not a role model but hope of continuing my dreams because rappers successfully made it. “For what’s money without happiness, or hard times without the people you love” is from a song called “Love Yourz” by J. Cole. He clearly understands how there is “beauty in the struggle and ugliness in the success” because he’s lived that life. Other songs such as “2Face” or “The Autograph” were instantly relatable to me because he has been through several struggles from the beginning of his childhood. Cole’s father left when he was six leaving his mother and younger brother alone. Cole became “the man of the house” but becoming a rapper is not as easy as it seems. Cole’s messages in these two songs are relative because I too, have had several issues with my mother and father creating a sense of lonesome. Hearing music like Coles helped me overcome my
One would think his music would be heard among today’s teenagers and young adults. However, the current teenage generation and the generation before it idolizes bands like The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, groups Chuck Berry directly influenced. Rolling Stones and The Beatles seem to be everywhere in 21st century culture. This is proof Chuck Berry has been not only instrumental but also highly underappreciated. To know Chuck Berry, one must know his early life, his influence, and the way he uses many different genres in his music.
Macklemore begins with “When I was in the third grade I thought that I was gay, / 'Cause I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight. / I told my mom, tears rushing down my face.” In just these first couple of lines, the listener is easily able to understand what the song is about, and also comprehend the stereotype that is associated with gays and lesbians. The listener is given the equation that Macklemore made up when he was younger; he added the stereotypes that were given to gays: being artistic, having a gay relative, and being tidy. By following these fashions, he assumed that he was gay as well. When Macklemore states that tears were rushing down his face, it gives even more awareness to the negative connotation that gays
Right away Macklemore establishes his credibility and knowledge, ethos, by stating, "When I was in the third grade I thought that I was gay, 'Cause I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight" (Haggerty, Lewis, Lambert, 2102). With such a forceful statement, he shows that he can relate to this issue, which gives him the credibility that people look for in such an important topic. By speaking of personal experience, this gives the audience a closer look into his life and may feel a connection that many people might need to relate and understand the lyrics or topic of the song. With the song beginning with an anecdote about Macklemore as a third grader fearing he was gay brings a great sense of the ethos appeal. This directly illustrates society’s corruption of an innocent child’s mind with the fear of being gay and believing that being gay would be a fault. This opening anecdot...

Hip-Hop: from the live performances to the lyrics this here brought up many thoughts in my head. I attended a concert on April 2016 and several other old school concerts at the Queen Mary, front row VIP area which included; Debbie deb, Cover girls, Vanilla ice and so on. Going to an old school/hip-hop concert the songs and experiences as a whole are different with every time. New school hip-hop is narrative and with this you can receive the same lyrical experience every time, as for the concert the experience is the same as the next. I am not saying that an old school concert isn’t different in its own way but I do think their not so far apart performance wise. Example going to a “Drake” concert is more narrative compared to an old school
Without the emergence of Outkast, music today simply would not be what it is. Outkast defined music and rap culture in the 2000s. Their willingness to entirely abandon conventional wisdom both in and outside of their music has inspired a generation of musicians. Outkast single handedly reshaped rap culture’s view of rap music from the South. Outkast’s greatness is nearly immeasurable, but in terms of visible impact on rap and music as a whole today, they are among the most influential rap groups we have ever seen.
Kanye West has been an icon in American hip-hop culture for over a decade. His music, fashion line, producing skills, and flamboyant personality has influenced many people for generations to come. Coming out of Chicago, many people in the music industry didn't even think Kanye had a chance to become a figure in hip-hop, but his hard work and persistence paid off. That all changed when Roc-A-Fella records signed Kanye to their label, and gave him a chance to shine as a rapper. Kanye’s background, critical analysis, and importance all shows that he has become one of the most important characters in American hip-hop culture to this day.

The Rolling Stones are one of the most well known hard rock bands. They have a distinctive history that separates them from other similar rock bands. Their unique sound formed the basis of rock and roll. The band had a huge influence on British music through things such as their fashion, fusion of obscure genres, and attitude. Over the course of the last fifty years, The Rolling Stones unique history, sound, and overall look still has an influence on modern British bands.
Even when he was a part of Jackson 5, the whole band depended on Michael’s performance. He was the youngest so he was full of energy and loved to dance. And that is the core element of fame, especially in Pop music industry, which he later changed it for good. But first of all let’s take a look into the definition of Pop Music.
From rough beginnings to eventual fame that would cost him so much in life, Eminem is the prime example for how rap can be a thing of beauty and pain. Through trials and tribulations Eminem has put everything on the line to make these dreams a reality. Through his music we learn the story of a man hurt by the world, hurt by his family, hurt by his circumstances, yet he still turned it into a lesson for the future. Each of these lesson leads to the possibility of another soul being saved, and in the end one can only assume that this is what he would have wanted. Despite the controversy surrounding his views on different subjects, it is hard to overlook what he has contributed to the world of rap.
